Best top for emergency rain protection?

I bought my first Wrangler back in July (2011). I have a hard top unlimited. I was wondering what the best top/ top combo would be for me.

The Jeep is my everyday car. The main reason I need a top is to protect from the rain. The car will be parked in a garage overnight, and outside during the day at work. So my main concern is having it sit outside in the rain for a few hours. In the summer I plan to have the whole top off (w/ doors on) unless it is a rainy week. I need a top that is fairly quick to put on and that I can also drive with. I know the best bet is to get a full fledged soft top, but I was looking for something cheaper. Would the Bestop Bikini, Duster & Windjammer combo work to keep out most of the rain?

Thank you for the help

Your best bet is to get a soft top.

I realize that is the best option, but I don't want to drop $1,000+ on a top for the summer months.

I actually fixed that problem for about $10. I have officially had my soft top removed for 7 days today. I am like you worried about rain, etc... It was embarassing the first 2 or 3 times I went out to do it, worried about rain, but worth it when you are driving a Jeep with no top!

I bought a 7 dollar tarp, and those little shark clips (Look like sharks, to grab tents, tarps, etc...) I folded the tarp to mold to my jeep, and taped it with gorilla tape from inside to hold form. I then just stuff it behind back seat when driving or not in use.

The Bestop trail cover is the best protection when parked, but it won't be much fun if it's raining hard and you have to drive home from work. You can get a soft top for $600 or less from CL or the Classifieds here.

So would the combo mentioned in OP not keep out the majority if the rain? Would there be other hardware not needed that did not come with my hard top?

Never had a duster or windjammer, however, it should keep you pretty dry.

Bestop bikini, duster, windjammer

I know this post is probably too late to help but I recently purchased the combo you were referring too for the same purpose of quick and easy rain protection. Once I installed it I realized that it would not do a great job of rain protection. The top has no tie downs on the sides once you get about half way over the rear doors on the 4-door leaving a flapping space for rain to come in. It also does not come with any wrap for the rear roll bars leaving those open to rain and weather, and the duster does not form a water tight seal around the roll bars in the back leaving it open for rain to drain right on top of the rear subwoofer if you have one. I speculate (as I have not driven it in the rain yet) that the top would offer decent rain protection while driving at low speeds but while sitting still or driving at higher speeds, rain will likely blow in between the windjammer and under the bikini top in different places. I think the top would be best for those who live places with minimal rain and park in a garage at work and home looking for occasional sun protection.

Find a factory softtop on CG...that is your best bet.
