Hi, just curious to know what wax everyone on here is using on their new jeep.. I'm looking for one that can resist bird s#it from sticking and destroying the new paint.
I have used the Turtle Wax Ice products - Super easy and I was really impressed with the results. One of the best things about the wax is it doesn't turn white if you touch the plastic trim pieces.
I use to only use pinnacle, but I switched to Smartwax products. Its been roughly a month since I washed my jeep and although dusty, its still silky smooth. I use different products for everything else such as 303 for the trim, and Meguiars for my tire.
I know we are supposed to let Jeeps get dirty, and I did beat the crap out of my CJ-7, but I have always been into detailing cars so thought I would pass on my experience as another owner of a brand new Jeep, with a warped affinity for clean, black vehicles lol.
I am a Zaino user, spent years in the show car circuit and it is as good as it gets. It is optically clear, so no white haze on rubber/plastic, can put it on in blazing hot sun with no clouding, and it lasts...and lasts....and lasts.
It seems expensive to buy, but such a little bit goes a very long way. You can apply continuous layers without it smearing into the rest of the product. That is a good thing for offroad branches, etc. Get some Z6 detailing spray (or just a hose) and bird crap, etc will lift right off.
I cannot stress this enough to save yourself more work later: Buy quality microfiber towels and applicators and keep them clean if you want to avoid swirls. Also recommend a Porter-Cable 7424 random orbital buffer with good pads, it makes like a lot easier and only way you can hurt the paint is if you throw it at the Jeep lol. The autogeek.net link above is a wealth of info.
Blackfire Polish and seal ( applied with orbital )
Blackfire wet diamond sealant ( applied with orbital )
Blackfire Crystal seal ( applied by hand )
This combo lasts for months and the Crystal seal can be reapplied monthly to make it last longer. Keeps the Jeep cleaner because the road spray beads and runs off taking most of the dirt with it.
This is what I have used in the past- although last week I stripped the jeep down, Clay bared the jeep and waxed for the first time with Turtle Wax ICE followed by Blackfire Crystal Seal. Its super shiny !!!!
The Turtle wax ICE was super easy to use and not what I was accustomed to -- I have always been a Meguiars Carnuba guy - but I somehow always managed to get the stuff on the fenders and it took forever to scrub off !!!
The Turtle Wax Ice can be applied to the whole jeep.
Zaino will not haze/discolor etc the plastics. I use Z-16 on the plastic areas for some subtle shine, but the wax will not show up at all if it gets on the plastic. No taping necessary.
Mothers Carnauba, I use painters tape to cover the edges of the plastic fenders to keep the wax off these areas when I was the Jeep. Use Aerospace 303 Protectant on the plastic fenders and plastic body parts.
I used to be a big fan of Werkstat Acrylic Jett Trigger but they don't make it anymore, so I've been looking for something similar. I love spray on sealants! So easy, yet the results are still no worse than using Meguiars NXT.
So right now, in search of that, I'm trying Nanoskin Nano Shock. It's really cheap! But I'm not sure how I feel about it yet in terms of lasting. It makes a nice smooth shine when you apply it, but my car gets dirty really fast, so I can't tell if it lasts. I'll let you know how I feel about it next time I wash it.
So far though, I'm not as impressed as I was with acrylic jett. With a fresh clay job, that stuff was insanely slick.
Zaino all the way. Here's a photo I just took of our Lexus. I've been polishing it with Zaino's twice a year since it was new and it's eight years old now.
