Notice this after 2 hours in deep Florida sugar sand:

Best worst mpg = 6.7

Hauling a motorcycle trailer on a long trip into a big headwind at 85... 6.21 MPG. I was on 35s and 4.10 gears then, changing to 4.88s really improved things when towing.

Best? It's always been bad, but I saw 19 when it was stock, doing a leisurely highway ride, mostly downhill.

This weekend marks the first of may travels in the new wrangler unlimited.. Not knowing how far the jeep was willing to go on a full tank, we tended not to wait until the fuel gauges wen't below the half way mark. This meant having to stop and top off the tank which cost us $20.00 each time. We drove 1,500+ the weekend and I thought we spent roughly $140.00 just in fuel. Once we become more familiar with the jeeps settings we should have a more actuate reading to display.

One thing that was noticed while driving and which saved us on the total fuel cost.. Is the "Green Zone" on the speedometer.. I suspect (without reading the owners manual) that this green zone offers the best fuel saving/economy when the vehicle maintains a constant or steady speed & RPM's.

I think my worst was around 7 or 8 (can't remember the exact number). It was ridiculously low. I had filled up, reset, driven maybe 20 miles, and left it at the dealer for about a week for a hardtop leak attempt number 10 billion to fix it. Apparently they start the vehicle and leave it idling with the heater on to dry out carpets.

If you really want to try and play the green zone game, also make sure (may need the enhanced EVIC for this) you have the ECO warning turned on that shows up in the mpg display area I believe (have had it turned off for a few years forgot which side). If the ECO isn't on, you're "burning too much fuel". I don't know if it actually improves your economy at all, but it'll sure cause a bunch of road range behind you for the rate at which you get to accelerate to keep the ECO displaying. I think I could get out and push the Jeep up to speed faster than it lets you press the gas pedal.

@flyinion I noticed something similar to what you're describing.. The jeep seems heavy at take off. One really has to stomp on the pedal (if they wanted to get anywhere fast) But I like how the pedal feels.. It forces me to slow down and take my time. So when I say the jeep feels or drives like a tank.. it's just a little slower and thats the way we like it. I think we had the jeep up to about 70 mph at one point. But that was crossing onto and off of a major highway.

I don't put a lot of trust in the onboard calculation. May be close. I Just take gal in to full tank and miles. I am getting about 17.3 average. my dash says 18.5. I know my method is not exact. But I trust it more.

Also its a jeep. A box with no areo-dynamic features. It beats itself through the wind instead of cutting like a knife. So I don't worry about it too much. If I wanted a fuel efficent vehicle I would have gotten a smart car.

New guy here.

I don't even want to think about my worst, but my best was on a beach trip last month. This flat Florida ground, combined with staying on the backroads for the trip, netted me a calculated 18.9 mpg for the tank. I'm usually in the low 17s.

Hauled about 2,400 lbs. of household items from Sacramento to Southern Cal over the weekend. Trailer is a 10 x 5 Tandem Utility. Jeep pulled with no issues. I drove 70-75 on hwy. 99 and averaged about 13.4 MPG with load and 14.6 trailer with no load coming back.
I was impressed with the pulling power of the 3.6. not bad at all.

I did a camping trip with a couple friends who have TJs. One of them hauled their two Jeeps with a diesel pickup, the other hauled a travel trailer with his truck. I had a travel trailer on my Jeep. They couldn't believe I pulled away from them all the way up to 70.
