Bestop Highrock 4x4 Oversized Tire Carrier?

Anyone have experience with this? I see conflicting reviews online. Mostly good, but wanted to check with the good folks at WF.com!

I think that I am on the border of having too heavy of a tire for the JK rear carrier on the tailgate. I'm going with a 295/70/18 Nitto Trail Grappler with stock wheels. Not sure exactly how it compares to the stock tires in weight, but I think it's roughly 10-11 pounds heavier than stock.

Anyhow, lots of other mods and the rear bumper is the last thing to get but need the wallet to cool off for a bit. Does this look like a good option for the weight/tire I'm looking at without damage to the tire carrier door?

Here it is at Amazon. Pretty good deal I'd say compared to the price of a full fledged tire carrier as long as you stay around 35.

Amazon.com: Bestop 61961-01 HighRock 4X4 Black Oversize Tire Carrier: Automotive

Thoughts?

Thanks.

My understanding is that Smittybilt's carrier is actually the same product, just branded differently and like 60% of the price. Might want to check into that.

You probably already know this, but you'll need wheel spacers too for those tires. And for what you'd be paying for tires and spacers, you may want to look into if it'd be cheaper just to get some 15" or 16" wheels with proper backspacing and tires to fit. I'm certain it'd be cheaper with 15" wheels, 16" would be closer.

Thanks MTH. I did look into 17's, but would have had to step up to a larger size and that eliminated the price differential pretty much. I also like the stock JK wheels over most everything I've seen out there.

I am going with the Spidertrax spacers, which my local Tire Kingdom stated that they would put on for me. Don't mind doing it myself, but if it is tacked on to the deal, then so be it.

I'll look into the Smittybuilt carrier if there is that much of a price diff. I just wanted to ensure that this was not going to damage the tailgate anytime down the road.

Thanks for the tips.

I used the smitty's with the off camber reinforcements. The smitty's are great and much cheaper .

Bestop has started trickeling these out to customers (I've been on the list since October and am told I can expect it in mid January)

Good video on one that just arrived.
