Bestop quality control lacking.

First purchase was the soft top tinted window set. Back window was stitched poorly causing it to have large diagonal wrinkles on the left side. The problem was obvious right out of the box. It has not gone away like Bestop stated it would. Iíve just kept them and try to ignore it for now. I have seen another review and picture of these for the side windows and the actual clear window part was missing (not cut out)Ö wow. Second purchase was the set of quick release bow knuckles for the soft top. The package is supposed to come with 4 small and 2 large. Mine came with 5 small and 1 large. Repurchased and just swapped outÖ ridiculous. So I roll the dice again and purchase the Highrock 4x4 tailgate bracket and universal tray andÖ Missing bolts (the few included are way too short to utilize the included self locking nylon nuts), missing rubber plugs, two holes not drilled in the support rods (this really Pi$$ed me off) and the tray was warped. These items were all new and sealed in plastic. Overall, the quality and design of this set is very poor too. Now Instead of returning it and reordering, I just drilled my own holes, will replace the bolts and reinforce where Bestop product designers were lacking. For the price of this product I expected better quality. Luckily Amazon has taken care of me regarding all three purchases. I do realize that not everyone has had a bad experience with Bestop but this is just a heads up to others considering their products.

Everything that I have ordered from Bestop I had to either, fix myself, re-engineer, or find/make the missing pieces myself.

I am staying far away from them.

I have 2 of their products, my only description, is piss-poor.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/wha...op-150302.html

And their email support blows, too bad I don't have time to call during the day.

Edit: and their instructions are terrible, thankfully I am not an idiot and can figure stuff out.

Iím not looking for any compensation or anything (Amazon has reimbursed me) but I think people need to be aware when a vendor or their product has issues. Iíve spent alot of money on my Jeep based on other reviews of products by other members of the community so Iím just putting this info out there. After looking further into quality issues related to Bestop (Google it) Iíve found other threads discussing issues. I find it odd that the only three products I have purchased from them have all had a problem. For the most part I try to only purchase American made products as I donít mind paying more if itís actually better quality but some things unfortunately are only manufactured in that other place I wish not to speak of.

Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck! Most people wouldn't give them a 2nd chance let alone 3 chances!

Many aftermarket products fail in the instructions department miserably...have you seen the crap that MOPAR calls an instruction guide?? I think they go over budget during R&D and then have to cut corners in order to bring their product to market at a reasonable price.

I agree within reason. If I can pay more for a quality product I will.

Some products from American companies are over priced and of questionable quality. Similarly over seas but they are cheaper and WORSE quality.

I always buy American when it makes sense, but I go for quality and reputation of the products I buy first, wherever it is from.

Almost every aftermarket part I buy, I look at the instructions and immediately throw them away. They make things more confusing with the terrible instructions and templates that don't even fit.

I've bought many BestTop products through out the years and have never had any problems. I must have good luck..... Though, putting together the complete soft top kit for my 08 Rubi wasn't the easiest thing to do (more aggravating than anything). But once it was all together, it was a very good top.....

Agreed 100%. I was excited about my American made BlackRock D windows. When I received them I was bummed to find the center caps were made of flimsy plastic and that one of the two screws that hold them on was a fake and made of plastic. I was like WTF, are they serious? I bitched about it on another thread but whatever. They still look damn good and the quality of the wheel itself paint, manufacturing is pretty good but I still felt kind of burned. I would have gladly paid more for at least a real second screw.

Had my issues also. Bought a SuperTop NX right after I got my Jeep and had problems from the start with the installation. I ended up tossing the directions and piecing the top together how I thought it should be. Turns out my main issue was that the rear side bow arms were pre-drilled, and placed on the wrong side they were supposed to be on when they attach to the rear bow assembly. After an hour of thinking I was stupid and 2 self tapping screws later, I had it right. I also was missing a screw that was never replaced. Typed up a 5 paragraph rant review and sent it to Bestop and got nothing in return. Even PM'd Geoff and got nothing.

After using the top for a month, I started getting water in the rear cargo area. Turns out the water was coming from the holes created by the stitching above the rear bow. I had ordered the top from Quadratech and the got me a new top for free.

Not sure what the heck is happening over there. I have heard of companies having a Beer fridge for Fridays but man this is bad...

jeep guy, the summer tops i bought are the reason I held off on letting go of my oem softop. Was going to replace with trektop, don't think that is a plan anymore.

Yeah, I emailed them regarding the rear window and their response was basically give it a month and it’ll be fine. I’m starting to see a trend here though. I’m glad I’m not the only one with issues regarding their products. I think some companies get to comfy when they get big and loose interest in the little things like build quality & customer service. I guess when it comes time to replace my softop I’ll be better off making one myself from some tent frame and blue tarp.

I guess I am sorry for bringing this up, but now you may have money for other mods right . Not sure if the Trektop had the same issues, but there a lot of posts about leaking tops last year.

When I contacted Quadratec about this, they got Bestop to send me the top replacement skin (so no windows or bow hardware) but I never had to return the old one. I am going to seal up the holes when I put the soft top back on and save the new one for later. I guess this was the Best part of the deal.

Thanks for the headsup! I was about to buy the Tektop NX. That is not going to happen now! I will just make due with my hardtop.
Not worth the headache and expense!

I agree, I was very close to spending on the trektop nx last month but am exceedingly glad now that I did not do it. Too many horror stories about super tight installs, sunrider latches not going back after a day driving topless, and the really poor design of the tailgate bar forcing most to just pony up another $100+ dollars for the OEM part instead. I am going to just grab a used 2010 or newer OEM softie on CL at some point down the road and will even get the added benefit of having the seller help me install it as part of the deal if they are so inclined. Bestop been getting lots of bad press on the forums lately for tech support issues and general China syndrome quality. Their rep here should take heed...

Check out the pics regarding quality. They obviously don’t even look at the product before packaging. Unreal.
The one of the back window is mine.

I would venture to say that most of us know this fact. What’s sad is that Bestop does not hold the same standards up to their branded products as they do to the ones branded Mopar.

Do we know for sure Bestop is the OEM supplier? My OEM top is excellent but I've read the reports about the aftermarket items. It's hard to believe they could do well one product and crappy on everything else.

I just received and installed my Bestop soft lower doors this week. The fit is pretty awful but the package had all the right parts and the doors work adequately.

Well I just installed my Trektop NX and when I got to the rare window, noticed that Bestop did not even bother to stich the zipper! Man that just sucks, NO MORE BESTOP FOR ME!

Wow this with a few other similar threads here and various sites has made up my mind. I'm spending the extra money & wait time for an ORH top when I have the money to get one instead of the Trektop NX.
