bestop TREKTOP

just wondering if anybody is using the bestop Trektop? I have been looking at it and thinking i like it better than the factory softtop!

a few questions:

1) it appears that the fabric just wraps around some metal piping....i was wondering what the piping looks like when the top is off? or do you just take of the pipping (rails) as well? do you have any pictures?

2) does it make a good seal around the doors?

3) how does the top connect to the windshield?

thanks

Here's a link for the Trek Top:

Bestop 56804-35 - Bestop® Trektop™ in Black Diamond for 07-10 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door - Quadratec

... and the Installation PDF...

http://www.quadratec.com/Assets/Installation/103578.pdf

Basically, it just wraps around your Roll Bar, using it as a Frame. The front is held on with a Header, just like your Soft Top is. The Rear Window is held in place with a Tailgate Bar, as with the Soft Top, and finally the sides around the Doors are attached using the supplied Door Surrounds.

Hope this helps!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

BB

Most soft tops, including the factory, have bows that holds the fabric up, and allows it to fold neatly down. But the Trektop just drapes over the rollbars, so there are no bows.

It does however, have door surrounds, which is what you're referring to as "piping". These are necessary, since the roll bar is a few inches inboard of where you want your doors to shut.

The Trekstep door surrounds are square tubing. They are very easy to remove when the top is off, but you can leave them on. They're fairly minimal and most people won't notice them when left on.

They are necessary for your second question: That's how it makes a seal around the doors.

#3: it connects to the windshield with a header channel, which either screws or bolts onto your Jeep, depending on your model year.

Windshield channels are the subject of much debate and consternation. I would just point out (if you read forum posts about them) that they are still the best solution anyone's come up with. Our competitors frequently use our windshield channels on their tops. We consider a compliment.

The windshield channel definitely beats the "tuck the front into the channel" on my 1980 CJ7! Every once in a while a corner would come loose and it would start to unravel on the highway.
