Great pics. They clear up most of the mystery for me around these tops.

So what are the differences between the Supertop NX and the OEM top?

The windshield channel for both the Trektop NX and Supertop NX will be the same, and will be almost identical to the factory channels.

This photo shows a Supertop NX "front clip" where it folds for the sunrider feature. The Trektop NX has the same front clip, and same channel. Just own't have those back bows.

Closest I can get right now to your request.

The biggest difference? We sell the Supertop NX. We can't sell the OEM.

Otherwise, subtle differences. The bows break down in the middle, so they can be shipped (factory bows are one piece), the door surrounds are slightly different (built in Sunrider clip, built in gap for the Top Arch, a big embossed B in the plastic ).

This is bigger news for the TJ folks, who have never liked the Supertop as well as the factory top. Som have spent years telling people to buy a used factory top for the hardware, and a Replace-A-Top for the fabric. Now they can buy a full "factory" top directly from us.

I want that trektop for my JK. I have the three piece freedom top. Would there need to be any modifications to install the trektop or does the channels use the same rear bolt holes

You should offer an upgrade path to those of us who made the mistake of buying a trektop two years ago and are on our third one...

Sorry to keep wearing you out with top questions Geoff. But I had a bunch of them before Bestop tossed in two new tops.

I was about two weeks away from ordering a Supertop when this thread popped up. I really like the Trektop but I really want a top I can just quickly toss down and go. Or quickly get back up in the event of a sudden shower. I think the Supertop or OEM top will be better at that. The new Trektop NX looks so versatile i am going to have to give it a much closer look though.

You covered the differences between the OEM top and the Supertop NX (thanks again by the way). But I have more questions.

What are the differences between the current Supertop and the Supertop NX. Will the NX be completely replacing the current Supertop or will they remain two separate products? In the future if my top is worn out, will a replace-a-top fit the Supertop hardware the same as it would the OEM hardware?

Tiki: I have a long history of buying things just before the new version comes out. iPhones, cars, etc. It's always tough when a company releases a new thing - when does it come out, what does it do to current sales, etc. But it was definitely a good time for us to do something big!
---------------

Greese: The advantage of an OEM top or Supertop is the bows and being able to fold neatly (semi-neatly) in the down position. The Trektop, Trektop NX (or competitors bowless tops) require you to remove the entire top, and basically stuff it behind the seats.

Differences between Supertop NX and Supertop? Bow mounting points, door surrounds, windshield channel (TJ especially), fabric, and a few other things.

Because the Supertop NX is so close to factory, a Replace-A-Top will fit the Supertop NX hardware.

Geoff,

I generally agree with your statement, however I think this is more in line with Microsoft selling a buggy incomplete Vista then charging to "upgrade" to 7. I am stuck with a top that has not fit right since I bought it despite having it replaced twice. I am not looking for handouts, or complaining because my back windows don't come out. I am upset that I paid $600 for a top that although looks awesome, fits like crap.

Ah. That is different. Are we working with you on getting it fit correctly? Are you talking to our customer support team? I usually jump out of the way when you are, for two reasons: I don't want to be a "third wheel." And I'm a wimp that likes to avoid conflict.

Hey Geof, those new tops come with hardware?

I have a hard top, and was thinking about getting something like the trekktop. Does it come with hardware, or do I require existing hardware?

All our tops come with all the hardware you need to install them, with the exception of the Replace-A-Top, which is just replacement fabric.

So the current model Supertop, Trektop, Sunrider, Tigertop, all come with hardware. So will the NX Models. The difference is that the hardware will be different - NX's will have the big plastic factory style door surrounds, and a few other hardware changes.

The Trektop NX has been announced: but it will be a while before you can buy it. It'll be a few months into 2011.

I guess that I will have to ask Santa for a bumper for Christmas then. I can't wait for the reviews on the Trektop NX though. It sounds like what I am looking to get for the summer fun.

Geoff,

How long should it take to remove the sides from the TrekTop NX? This appears to fit what I'm looking for this coming Spring.

If the Trektop NX does stay relatively close to the originals price then I will not bat an eye to buying it! *hint, hint, wink, wink Geoff* understanding of course it will be slightly higher like said previously.

Idk, but I wouldn't expect it to take any longer than removing any other windows. Probably 2 minutes..... Depends how fast you can pull a zipper and undo velcro.

Hey Geoff.....odd question for you. Are the tops compatible with the OEM door channels and rear bar or are the new parts only "OEM style". Reason I ask is I was wondering if there might be two options when ordering the new NX top. One with everything needed and one slightly cheaper for people that already have OEM soft top parts and dont need the parts for the doors and rear gate bar.

Does the new trektop have a place to store the windows like the rampage version does?

Trektop-Style Hardtop

Anybody out there know (Geoff, this is for you) about whether a Trektop-style hardtop is now/will ever be available for JKUs? I'm talking about this look (Bestop 56805-35 - Bestop® Trektop™ in Black Diamond for 07-11 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec) but in a hardtop. I can't seem to find one online . . . .

Very Nice Geoff. If you let me have one, I'll be your bestest friend in the whole world. and I won't even call you at home, or come to your house for milk and cookies.

I like everything about the new trektop. I'm very happy with how it looks, you were right. (people don't hear me say that very often)

I too am hoping that they are compatible with OEM stuff, and that we could get one w/o the bestop hardware, since I already have one set of door surrounds. (granted I'm looking for a replace-a-jeep right now so that may all change)

Thanks ncossey. These are indeed awesome: (WILD BOAR PRODUCTS: Fastback Hard Tops for your Jeep Wrangler).

But you weren't kidding when you said they're also expensive. It doesn't look like you could do a JKU for less than $3000 before shipping. Add some snazzy extras and you're near $5000.

Geoff, why on earth has Bestop not gotten into some of these designs? There's got to be a way to produce a similar product that undercuts those prices. (I know this, of course, because of my extensive expertise in hardtop design, honed by at least ten minutes on this forum . . . .)

By the way, this is no dig on Bestop--If I didn't have a brand new factory softtop, I'd pick up a Trektop. It's the hardtop that I don't currently have.

Well I hope the new Trektop NX hits the market without too many delays. I sold my current generation Trektop today with plans to buy the new version when it comes out.

They actually offer a trade in program if you have a hardtop.
