BESTOP Under seat lockbox

I just put my underseat lock box (Brand new) up in the classifides. It will NOT fit the later 2011 Wrangler unless you really modify the drivers seat. I even took it to my dealer where they tried for 45 minutes (and didn;t charge me!!) to install it... NO DICE!! Too bad its a sweett safe.

I didn't want to do this so I'm going to list it.

Any 2011 JK owners, have you tried a lock box in the rear under floor compartment? I really would like to find a spot to keep a hand gun when I can't carry it into a Bank, the Post Office etc. NOT for storage or protection, its either on my person or in the consol when I'm in the vehicle.

The BESTOP box is great....just won;t go under the later 2011 JK front seat.

Much appreciated.

No, I've had several look at this, and the ONLY way would be to raise the seat and potentially have an "issue" re insurance in an accident. IF one were to raise the seat the box will fit......but I don;t want to take that chance. The metal bar across the front of the seat blocks any way to slide the lock box in. There is also a metal plate that holds wiring but that can be easily moved out of the way. Its the raising of the seat on a type of bushing that MAY....MAY void insurance coverage in the event of an accident. Not sure but not willing to take that chance.

Its yours, I'm in Fall River. Easy ride to a nice 1/2 way. I usually shoot at Reedy's Archery in Middleboro that might work.........Would love to see your ride and get some pointers. plus I think were about the same age.......over 60 kids!!!

I have the Tuffy Box under my 2011 Wrangler Unlimited. Perfect fit. The Best Top looks very similar, with my Tuffy I had to put one side of the bracket (door side) under the seat bracket ...and the other side(console side) over the seat bracket. Was not clear on the instructions. I tried for an hour to place both mounting brackets under the seat brackets. Just FYI.

Thanks, but thats not the issue. My seat has a bar that goes across the front under the seat. The bar is too low to allow the box to slip in. I understood the under and over bolts, its the damn bar.

I wonder if its possible that later '11 JK's that have the manual seat raising device are somehow different. I did speak directly to Bestop (GREAT FOLKS!!!) and they said they have heard of this before now.....apparently there is some sort of change in the '11's. Not sure. GREAT device. sick I can;t have it under the drivers seat. it would be too perfect if I could. Thanks for your suggestion.

Anytime... Maybe they will come out with a box to address these issues.
I, too have also inquired about the box under the rear seat...it would be easier to get to in my case.

South side Rt 24 @ 495 it is. No need to spend an hour but I sure would love to have a cup of coffee with you.

Anytime works for me, if the AM is good for you that works best for me.

I'm an early riser but like I said I can meet you at anytime.

I'll just head over to Middleboro after for some Archery practice. Deer opens on the 18th.

there is an easy fix, but I'd like to see GM get a good deal on this so I'll keep my mouth shut.

Are you referring to the bar used to slide the seat forward and back? On my 2012, I also had to remove a bracket that held wires for seat heater and occupant detection. The bracket was silly big for its intended purpose, and was replaced by zip-tying the wires to the outside seat frame.

This again was for a Tuffy box, not Besttop.

Good luck.

Come on guys..... I put mine in my 2011. It took me all of about 20 minutes. I unplugged the plug/wire thing (after removing the plate), and routed it over the side rail of the underside of my seat, then plugged it back in - so it's out of the way, but not restricted... so I can freely move the seat all the way fore and aft without disturbing it. And the Bestop lock box just fit right in. Slick.

From what I've been reading the two door has an "easy access tumble seat" and there is a bar in the way.

Edit: and the change took place sometime in 2011

There is a front seat structural bar directly across the front of the sear IN MY JK SPORT....( I say that because I could have the wrong seat installed in my vehicle which has occured to me.)

........ANYWAY..... this IS NOT the wiring connection and it is NOT the seat adjustment bar. Its a solid steel piece that is part of the frame. It is too low to allow the box to be placed. There is barely 2 3/4" clearance.

This piece is a part of the seat frame. Your choice is limited to IMHO, to raising the seat to get the clearance and cutting the seat front frame bar.

NEITHER of these options is recommended for 1) Safety & 2) Liability, reasons.........if "daggo66" has a fix (as he claims) then he owes it to all of you to spill it.

I'm honest and I made a deal to sell the box and "G M" gets it......I keep my word.

But if someone does kow how to install the box without the issues I cited..................... do tell, because its challanged several folks at my end including 2 service tech', and the service manager at my dealership.

Maybe you know something they didn;t see.......sure missed me.

Do you have the tumble forward seat on the driver side? If that is the case, there is no fix. If it's just the bar and wires that appeared in 2011, that can be safely removed. This fold and tumble seat doesn't appear to be on every 2 door and it is very odd that it is also on the driver side. Historically (before the JK) it has only been on the passenger side. Even the early JK tilt and slide version was only on the passenger side.

Question

No Tom, I have ( I guess ) a "Tumble Forward" seat on the drivers side.....BUT....it doesn't tumble forward!!!!! .

It has a VERY sturdy steel cross member that is just below the seat adjustment lever.

I may have a 'defect' seat ??? not sure, or maybe they put these seats in at the end of the production run.

I have a leaver that raises and lowers the seat itself but I don;t have the leaver that is on the pasenger side to 'flip' the seat forward.

I also have the under-seat 'tray' with the wiring harness. That is easy to remove, its this structural member in the front (and rear) of the drivers seat that can;t be taken out

I wondered if you knew some super fix'em upper, but you were thinking about the wiring tray.....that is an easy mod so your right......

This is an entirely different can of worms.

If there is some interest, I'll run out and take some pic;s and post them of the underside of the seat......it really is VERY different than what others seem to have in their '11 JK's.

Thanks., Jim.

on mine I have 2 leavers (drivers and pax side both) the bottom one adjusts the up and down and the upper one adjusts the angle of the back of the seat....if I angle the seat all the way forward and push the seat it will come up slightly and move forward to lean on the steering wheel....this is just like the pax side but doesn't give you as much clearance to get in the backseat.

THANKS!!!! I havn't tried that......that explains everything. I'm picking up a far simpler lockbox I found on Amazon.com and this has a wire teather OR it can be bolted in.

I'm going to find a spot to bolt it in where I can safely place a handgun for short periods when I leave the vehilce.

The BESTOP box is a great product and well worth the $$. I wish it fit. I actually considered bolting it in someplace but ran out of 'reasonable' spots. If you find something you like let me know. Thanks, Jim.

Thanks for getting back to me with that info.

Hi,

have installed the BESTOP box under the driver's seat of my 2011 Rubicon.

Only one metal part under the seat to deinstall. It's a carrier for some electrical connectors (seat heating and buckle sensor). Was no problem to place it on the seat frame close to the rails. More difficult was to release the screws holding the seat. Nothing for small playskool tools, you need some torque...

All in all any Granny can do !

Cheers,
Guido
