Bfg

Anyone running BFG All Terrains on a JK Sahara Unlimited? I have the stock 18" rims now but thinking of swaping them out and i guess i need to drop down to 17" rims to put on BFG's. I would be interested to know the mileage and noise impact. Majority of my driving is hwy unfortuantely...

what size BFG's are you interested in putting on the 17"? A lot of people runs those or the Duratracs on 15" rims but you can put them on any thing you like. The smaller rim will trim some weight off your ride so your MPG will get a little boost but the weight of the tire will have the biggest impact. If its your daily driver, you might want to consider something like Good Year's new Silent Armor tires. Awesome tires without huge treads that will eat into the dirt but not your wallet as well. Which ever tire you choose, look at the "load rating" of the tire. The higher the load rating the lower your gas mileage will be.

Ex.

Load rating of A = great MPG
Load rating of B = a little worse
Most All terrain tires have load ratings of C, D, E.
Load rating of E = not very good MPG but awesome off road. Its a heavy tire with serious side wall protection and high PSI.

to be honest the ride is very unlikely to see much off-road. More snow than dirt. In addition,i had BFG's on a 98 Sport and loved them. Aesthetics only...the stock 18"s don't give me many options nevermind this would give me an excuse for new rims.. :-)

If your tires are mostly going to see snow when its on/off road, I would recommend the Duratracs over the BFG. They have a better snow rating and their design shows that with its grip. You can't go wrong with either tire though, both are very well suited for most anything. There are a lot of pics on line of both tires, here are the Duratracs on my JK with 16" rims.

I agree.
BFG has been resting on their laurels with their AT for so long that it's a B&W tube set in an age of LED flat-panels.

The newer Goodyears have a more advanced rubber compound that enhance road adhesion. Duratrac, MTR/Kevlar, Dunlop Mud Rover Max Traction, Fierce Attitude MT, and the Kelly Safari MT all benefit from this rubber.

I don't have a JK but I am running some 31/10.50 BFG A/Ts on a 15 inch rim on my TJ and I will say that they are a very quiet tire to run, especially for how aggressive they look.
