BFG KO's or KO2...or GY Duratrac.

OK I have a question....and I've read the tire reviews, but would like some opinions from jeepers on this forum.

My Jeep JK 2 door will be a DD with some off road use as well, and some pretty horrendous winter road conditions(fun actually with the right vehicle and tire)I know that the A/T tires work well off road....what I'm wondering is how they are on road..eg. is the KO2 that much better than the KO for on road handling and tire noise(and snowy road conditions )..or is there a bit of hyperbole in advertising when it comes to the KO2...and how does the Goodyear Duratrac compare to either of these two BFG's in the on road category??....interior cab noise in particular,I don't mind some hum but not irritating...and..... handling of snowy road conditions??

These are the tires I am considering...anyone with real world experience with these particular tires,I would appreciate input and opinions.

Thanks,
Bill.

The KO2 is drastically better than the KO. I imagine the KO will be retired once the KO2 is available in more sizes and the stock depleted. We have KO2s on both of our vehicles. They are very quiet for an A/T and are exceptional in snow/rain.

Duratrac is another great option. Depending on the size, the big difference is load rating. IMO they have a bit more hum to them as well but not enough to be a deterrent.

IMO though, unless you really want the lower ply, the Duratrac isn't worth the price difference.

I was and continue to be amazed how quiet my K02s are. The owner of the tire store I buy from took my Jeep out for a run and even he was amazed how quiet they were.

I've had mine in bad rain (flooded streets/highways) and snow and they performed great in 2wd never even needed to go into 4hi.

Choosing between the KO2 and the DT may be a very difficult choice specially if the KO2 has the same tread life as the KO. One of the few weaknesses of the KO in AT class is hydroplaning. That has been fixed int KO2. With the addition of the AT/MT hybrid tread pattern that makes the KO2 a clear winner over the KO unless the price of the KO is substantially reduced. I would also toss in the Cooper ST Maxx in the mix as well as the ATZ P3.

@Y-Guy ... Of course the tires will be quiet at the preliminary stages of purchase. My oem km's were not bad at all in terms of quietness. Then came 10k miles. It created the infamous hum. Good thing I switched to the KO2's. It's still too early to tell. So far so good.
So far, I had the Toyo At2, Firestone destination a/t, KM's, Procomp Xtreme MT2, and the KO2's.

True, but with a tire store owner who knows a lot about the product he sells is impressed that's something else. I've had mine on since October now with 7,000 miles and they are still just as quiet. The only thing I hear are the small rocks in the tread. Since I run doorless/topless mostly I hear a lot, these are only slightly louder then stock tires.

Love my KO2's so far. Really liked my DT's as well since I had 5 sets on various vehicles. The KO2's as mentioned are very quiet and noticeably more quiet than the DT's which I am very happy with. I'm glad I jumped to 37's and KO2's were the best option for me. Wish they were a little more aggressive looking, but they are really growing on me.

Six of one, half dozen of the other. KO's are great tires. Had them on my TJ and completely happy. I wanted something a bit more aggressive on my JK so I went with Duratracs. Totally pleased with them too. If you're off road a lot, the slight differences in performance might matter but for general 90/10 on/off road driving like most of us do, any of those are a good choice.

If I had to buy tires right now, I'd probably get the KO2's but they didn't have them in my size when I bought my Duratracs. But I'll run m Duratracs until they are wasted unless I decide to go bigger.

I don't have my JK yet but it is coming. Now I am collecting some of the pieces to make the JK how I want it.....and tires are one of the pieces...I really want the KO2's...they just don't have them in the size I want at this moment...it should be pretty close in timing as to when the size KO2 that I'm after will come out, in relation to when my JK will come in....the size I am after is supposed to be coming out in a couple months....my JK in a month and a bit......if everything goes to plan, and the dealer was correct in their ETA of 8-10 weeks.

Cheers,
Bill.

My duratracs are silent and start and stop on a dime in winter weather. They can't be beat.

We had a blizzard this year and I drove through it with ease. Never slipped, slided, or got even close to stuck. I drove down an alley that was four feet deep with snow and pushed through the whole thing for a good 200 yards....

Are they fairly quiet on the road at highway speed 50 to 70 MPH???

I'm still kicking around the idea of going Duratrac...I've got time though....which is good and bad...over analysis paralysis!!! LOL!!!

Cheers,
Bill.

My work commute is 60 miles expressway driving and I don't hear them.

If you don't like noise you won't like the wrangler though at those speeds due to the block shape of the vehicle and the wind.

Noise OK up to a point...

I've driven Jeeps so I know what to expect as far as wind noise etc. is concerned, and that isn't what I'm talking about I'm talking intrusive tire whine-hum-roar...now I'm sure that none of these tires are like that,I just want to get some input from people that have them, and have some miles on them to give an opinion. I don't mind some noise but head ache inducing roar on long trips is not good.

Example on my current vehicle I have General Grabber A/T2's and they whine-hum at city speeds(which I find quite pleasing) up to 60-70 KMH....but there is a magic speed that this virtually disappears....so...at highway speeds they are no noisier than the stock tires that they replaced...I like that...I just want to know which tire out of the ones I asked about are like this or possibly..better???

Cheers.
Bill.

I'm going to 35 soon and am strongly looking at the ko2, I love my 33 duratracs but I don't see them lasting too long, what's the life for the ko2

My buddies Duratracs have 21k on them and still have 16mm of tread left. They last unless you are doing burn outs.
