Bigger tires on stock rims?

Anyone have any pictures of their ride with larger tires on the stock Jeep rims? I'm planning on upgrading to 33"s in the near future but to be frugal I was planning on keeping my stock 17" rims and maybe painting them a darker colour better match the body colour. Has anyone had any luck with this? Does it look good? Is the fit right, or is using stock rims out of the question?

Lots of folks put 33s on the stock 17" wheels. I don't have any pictures myself, but there are many around.

You'll lose some articulation (i.e., the wheel will hit the fender sooner when pushed upward while offroading) but it'll work out okay until you get the funds to toss in a small lift. You will need wheel spacers to prevent rubbing on turns though.

Here's a thread from a guy who just painted his wheels mineral grey. There are also a number of threads from folks who bedlined their wheels, like this one.

you have 32's stock, a lot of people put 35s on 17's. That why I wanted 17'' so I could put bigger tires on without having to get new rims.

I have 285/70/17 which is 32.71" on stock rims but you will have to buy 1.5" wheel spacer to do it. Got them on mine and it is doing great. Just have to make sure to torque them correctly.

This is what almost 33's, lol look like with spacers.

So could I fit a 33x12.50x17 with 1.5" spacers on the stock wheels?

Well with the jk's I believe it's not an actual re gear as in the old jeeps I read that you just plug a superchips like device into the comp and reset it

No, it's both. Chip (to fix speedo and shift points for an auto trans) and regear.

Here's my stock '11 Wrangler Unlimited with 285 70 R17' s on them (almost 33's)

No wheels spacers and no rubbing. I'm very happy with how it looks (for now) and the 285's are wider and look better.

If it's recommended to re-gear with 35's, and 33's should be okay, how much of a difference would having 34's be?
