Anybody run a larger than standard oil filter on your rig?

If so...what size?

OEM size can be troublesom to find sometimes. I reckon a little larger might mean for filtration material....or at least might be easier to find.

Thoughts?

It's a paper cartridge filter, not the metal can style on the 3.8 - so I think only one size. OEM, NAPA, and Wix are all the same size.

Get Wix air and oil filters from these people, free shipping at $50, no tax and periodic discount codes.

Yeah, less than 1/3 the cost of what O'Reilly's wants FOR THE EXACT DANG FILTER, even before the "MOPARTS" discount code. I ordered 4 along with an in-cabin air filter that O'Reilly's said doesn't exist for the '12 Wrangler.

Both my local stealerships wanted about $8 a piece for them. Was easier to order online. Still amazed that O'Reilly's wanted that much. The wholesale cost must be $3 or so...so that's quite a markup they're making.

while the whole cartridge thing is true, that it only comes in one size that does not mean you cannot upgrade. as long as i have been building cars i have always been relocating my oil filters and upgrading to two with an oil cooler. regardless of having a spin on or a cartridge filter. what you need to do is call mocal and have them get you a cartridge style take off plate, some -10an hose, the matching -10an fittings, and then a 3/4x16 stand off plate (single or double) then you can use the most common filter thread out there. you can use the big ford diesel filters, big vw diesel filters etc. or you can pick up some amsoil performance filters. regardless of what you go with you can go with bigger and better filters even though you have a cartridge style filter. if you add an oil cooler that will increase volume as well. not to mention you can mount the filter somewhere more convenient for you to get to with less mess. iv been changing my oil for the last 10 years from the top and i havent crawled under to change the oil for any reason

if you need i have an entire spare HD/Race setup here that is brand new to do just that. i was going to use it on my big turbo diesel but i went with a custom plate and dual filters instead. granted its for 3/4x16 thread screw on filters (vws, fords, the 3.8 wranglers) but you can just get a different take off plate and use all the rest of it
