Bikini top

I have a 2 door 2008 jk....I've been shopping for a bikini top. I've looked at what seems like a million. I'd like to cut through the BS and get some answers from experienced owners on what works well. Go....

I have a JKU and bought this bestop bikini top...install was super easy, one thing I didn't account for for a windshield header but they are relatively inexpensive...I got a smittybuilt header for like $50 or so

I have a hardtop so this kini top is usually what I rock all summer and it has held up really nice

I first got a Cable Bikini for my JKU and liked it, nice fit. At highway speeds there is minimal flapping, but there is some. The Cable Bikini's require door surrounds and they give you a nice factory look, the doors seal up so if you hit rain you would be dry up front. It was everything I wanted, or so I thought. The downside was other then being open in the back it was just like driving with the hard top on. Then I got a SpiderWeb shade, and I never put the Cable Bikini back on. What I found was I liked the air the SpiderWeb shade offered, and enjoyed the sun without having it all on me.

If you want a bikini top that won't flap the Cable bikini's are great, heard from to many other Jeepers that other bikini tops will flap a lot. The SpiderWeb shade doesn't flap but I wouldn't call it a bikini either.

X2 on the SpiderWebShade. Keeps the sun off without getting fried. No real rain protection, but definitely open top feel!

Spidershade x3. Took some adjustments to get rid of the flapping, but after that it's been awesome.

I agree with what's been said. There's no reason to get a dedicated bikini top with a header and everything when the spiderwebshade works great at keeping most of the sun off you, while still giving the open air feeling, AND while still allowing your regular top to go up at a moments notice. I have the JKINI model and it's one of the best purchases I've made for my Jeep.

Yes both tops fit over the SWS. I keep it on year round. Another plus is that with the SWS installed you don't see the white of the hardtop roof.

The Bestop Cable Top will be a really high quality top that will flap less than most others due to the cable keeping everything tight. That one also includes the windshield header and comes in khaki.

Here is the Bestop Mesh Bikini Top that will give you more of the open feeling while still giving you some sun protection.

Let me know if you have questions about any of the tops or if you'd like a quote on anything!

I'm looking at the ones that you guys have suggested. One thing that I don't want are door or other type channels. That seems to me to be a way to charge more. (Just saying....I'm no expert)

I think bestop had a moment of "gee, why didn't we think of that?" when the SWS came out. The reason I went with that was mainly because I didn't want to deal with headers and stuff. I do take mine off with the hard top on in the winter. Figure there's no upside to stretching out the spider balls when I'm not even using the SWS.

My wife got me a front-half SWS for my JKU for Christmas, but I have yet to put it on because it's been so freakin' cold here. Can't wait for the weather to warm up. The SWS looks very well made.

Yeah, I had to double check that. I wrote the date and time down. Just documenting my downward, age induced spiral. I need a beer.

Well the good news is that it can't be a downward spiral because your age can only go up lol

Congrats, I think you'll really like it. Do be aware getting the rear bungee cords on takes some beef, but once it's on and tight its great. Some folks had some flapping and put some Velcro strips above the sound bar, I never had any issue with mine.

The only issue I'm having is that it's to freaking cold to use it right now!

I also did the spiderweb shade and love it. Protects from the tx sun, keeps the wind noise down, and gives the roof a smooth appearance rather than the lumpy, white underside of the stock top. I secured the center from flapping by using the supplied grommet holes and robbing the wing nuts off a mower, that allow you to break the handle down, and attached it to the roll bar.

Reviving this old thread to throw my 2 cents in.
I recently bought a Smittybuilt extended bikini top. DO NOT waste your time with that piece of junk. The top is made pretty well, but the straps and connectors they utilize are cheap and useless! The Smittybuilt header channel has the footman loop knobs on the TOP of the loops (between the top and the channel) which is a pain in the neck. Besttop is UNDER which makes it much easier to secure. The top fits poorly along the windshield also, and looks very cheap.
The biggest problem is how you secure the rear of the bikini to the Jeep. There are tension straps that hook under the side belt rail on the exterior driver and passenger sides, and these are pretty sturdy and work well. HOWEVER, the rear tension straps are designed to insert into the holes on top of the belt rail...the clips that Smitty uses are thin, cheap, and barely strong enough to hold the top down even loosely...when you try to tighten the straps, these clips deform so horribly and strain to stay in their mounting locations. I bent both on the install and couldn't get them back into their normal positions. AWFUL! The Besttop and the Quadratec tops both secure using a bolt into the roll bar-a much more secure and cleaner look, if you ask me.
I returned it the next day. I will never again buy another Smitty product.
