I've see a few fellow jeepers out there with blacked out headlights and other lights. Is this a self mod or something they bought? If so how much would it cost to add this mean look to my jeep?
In Massachusetts you may have trouble passing inspection though. They are getting pretty tight with anything that filters the original lenses from stock. You might check with your favorite inspection station to be sure you will not have to undo your work before the inspection.
Hella makes a driving light that looks black when not on and should not be affected by state laws. Search for Hella Black Magic Driving Lamp, quadratec should have them.
Those look like off road lights so I guess it looks like to actually make blacked out lights you need to do it yourself or maybe there are custom shops that do it for you. Probably overcharge though.
go to gorecon.com they have side markers and blinkers but they are expensive. i tinted the back lights black and they look great once the weather gets better ill do the front lights too but not the headlights cause i do alot of driving
I did my side markers and turn signals myself for like 14 dollars. still have a ton of the stuff in a can left over. as for headlights, im not sure you can legally tint those.... I wouldnt anyways mine are already dim enough ;(
I bought a set of black transparent lens covers a few years ago for my black 2007 JK. I think they came from Quadratek. They were supposed to snap on over the headlights and allegedly could be removed quickly and easily for state inspection. My experience was that they did not snap in so easy and they completely screwed up my lights. The lights were shining way to high. I took them off, sent them back and had the dealership readjust my headlights. They really looked cool on the black Jeep but not at the expense of having unadjusted headlights.
Ebay for tinted markers with amber bulbs, nightshades for the tails... Do the inside of the tail light lenses if you want them to hold up better and look better. And stop spraying before you think they're dark enough.... They look darker installed than they do laying on newspaper.....
PA laws read that as long as it still gives off light and operates as intended its okay. its a lil hard to decyfer but you should be able to look up your state laws. Google=your friend
I did my front turn and the look great and work great with the amber bulbs. Looks just like a regular turn when light comes on. But the side markers I didn't change but came with the kit I got on E-bay. Thought about changing them but side markers are not very easy to change out.
Ive got all the lights tinted on mine, headlights, fogs, side markers, tail lights ect... Did them myself with a can of VHT night shades from pepboys.. Its a purple n black spray can... I did too many coats on my head n fog lights, it dimmed the lights a lot so i ended up putting HIDs behind them n now theyre great.. Actually planning on redoing them with less coats... The tint comes right off with rubbing alcohol... Good luck
I used VHT nightshades on my turnsignals too. It only takes 2 coats (3 coats MAX!) They have been holding up great with no signs of fading. You can get it at most auto parts stores for less than 10 bucks.
