My 2013 unlimited sport is bone stock. No convenience package, no power windows or locks. No security alarm or anything. Just today the blinking red light came on just above the temp gauge. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
I just went to take a picture and upon starting the Jeep the light doesn't come on now. Bummer.... I hate intermittent problems. But still, what could the cause be??
That sounds like your alarm LED. Lock the door, close it, and look through the window. Is blinking now? Unlock the door or turn off your alarm. Did it stop?
That is exactly where the alarm LED is on my Jeep. It blinks fast when I first lock the doors and then a slower blink after I close the door and it sets up. So if you don't have an alarm I have no idea.
It is part of the Sentry Key Immobilizer system (this is coming out of the owner's manual of my 2014 Willys Unlimited). Basically, the keys have a chip in them that is encoded with a security code. Even if a generic key is "cut" from the factory key, it won't be usable in the ignition of the vehicle because it won't have that chip in it. Only keys programmed to the vehicle will operate it. It goes on to say "the system will shut the engine off in two seconds if an invalid key is used to start the engine." Of course the keys needed can be obtained and coded at a Jeep dealer.

THe keys are available on ebay for 1/10 the price at the dealer and if you have 2 working keys you can program them yourself instructions are in the owners manual or from the vender that sells the keys. It is a good idea to get an extra so if you lose one you still have 2 needed to program otherwise if you only have 1 you are at the mercy of the stealership [bring your wallet]
If it is intermittent, it could be a fault in the SKREEM (or SKIM) in your vehicle. As you can see from the picture you found online, it often comes in with the low tire pressure alert too. This even applies to vehicles without the key fob. If you have a grey rubber headed key, you have the sentry alert system. I had the light come and go for about a year on our Patriot, and then it stopped coming in. I never had a problem with the engine shutting down or refusing to start. Towards the end it would also momentarily bring in the low tire pressure alarm. Like I said, it had stopped doing that for about a year before I traded it in on our Wrangler. Now it doesn't bother me at all....
If ours is still under warranty, I would definitely have them look at it and document the issue for when it comes back.
I dunno. Perhaps pg. 299 of your 2013 owners manual would provide some more information. I would tell you but it is better if you learn to look these things up yourself.
I picked up my JKU WW (w/ power conv group) 2/7. Tonight I had the red blinking light above the temp gauge while driving. Temps were normal. No idea what is going on. Started and drove fine. Light stopped blinking when I parked Jeep in garage and turned it off.
i have a 2014 JKUR and I have never really noticed the red light. Last Friday while at the dealer getting an oil change the dealer did 4 flash updates to my jeep. Drove it home, then on Saturday the jeep would not start and the red light was on. Had to have roadside assistance tow the jeep to the dealer on Monday morning. The jeep basically thought that it was being stolen and engaged the anti theft system and would not start. Dealer reset everything including the radio and so far no other problems.
Any resolution to the original question? We have the same issue now.
