Bluetooth streaming audio

The 2012 radio sounds great, but when I play music from my iPhone via the Bluetooth it sounds bad. Anyone else experiencing this?

The sound quality in mine was just fair. There should be an update to the software for early 2012's coming out that MARKEDLY improves the BT streaming. Hopefully xsdbs will chime in here.

Mine sounds great, but I am no audiophile.

No complaints here.
I was playing with it the other morning trying streaming radio through the system and i thought that it sounded pretty darn good.

The only down side I found was when I played a video on my phone the audio came through with a processing delay. No biggie there as I don't plan on watching a lot of phone videos in the Jeep anyway.

I have played with it a couple of times and it seems to work well for me with my Android phone. The one thing I did notice when streaming via bluetooth is that the phone/device volume impacts the sound playing through the head unit. When I first started streaming, the volume on the phone was low and I had to turn the volume on the head unit up high to hear it. It sounded poor. After adjusting the volume on the phone to a higher level and lowering the volume on the head unit, it sounded much better.

Bt

Mine actually sounds pretty good given it is BT, not my preferred method of listening but like it for Pod casts

I agree with this

also, check the EQ settings on your device. I find a high bass setting(iPhone) overloads the speakers a bit. Try a standard or flat setting.

I've had my jeep since Nov. 12 and have been listening to my music by BT the whole time. Just today, I decided to try listening to my iPhone using the aux cable. It sounds sooooooo much better with the cable. Guess I'll have to put up with loose cable now, but I think the increased sound quality makes it worth it.

I have been using BT on my wifes GC 430N for a year and then when I got my JKUR last weekend I used both BT and the cable and my wife of all people (normally deaf) asked why it doesn't sound as good as earlier...to be honest i couldnt tell teh difference but apparently some do

I recently got the U-Connect System installed in my 2011 Unlimited. The phone works great by the streaming bluetooth sounds terrible. I took it back to the dealer to see if there were any software updates missing but I was all up to date. I have the RES 130 Radio in the Jeep and I am using an Iphone 4. Has anyone else ran into this issue or know of a solution? I've tried modifying the settings on my phone and nothing seems to work.

There definitely is a difference in audio quality when streaming from the iPhone 4S versus connecting it via the USB cable. I have the 730 RNR radio. Then again I also notice the difference when using plug in headphones versus stereo bluetooth headsets.

Connecting with a regular analog audio cable (or even via a USB cable) will almost always sound better than Bluetooth, simply because the direct connection requires no wireless or processing to accomplish.

Heck, of you can deal with what Sirius's wacky-assed compression does to music you can easily deal with a BT audio connection!

2012 JKR with the 430 and the BT audio streaming sounds like a speaker buried under a pile of dogtihs. I'm streaming from my Epic4g. High pitched crackling noises, the lows are muddled, just plain crap. Same phone streaming BT in my F150 sounds awesome. So, it's not my phone. I'll have to take it back to the stealership, with my F150 for comparison so they can't claim it to be my phone, and see if they can do anything. Maybe replace the headunit.

With the 730n the bt is barely adequate for phone use when it works. Experimented with Pandora and will not use it.

I got 730N and 2012 jku. Bt works perfect and Bt for phone use is amazing, very clear and very loud and syncs contacts at hyper speed in comparison to my 2010 328xi. Also streams signal strength and battery life to my head unit interface in seconds and very efficiently.

Could be my Droid2Global phone. What do you use?

iPhone 4. I was honestly impressed how good it was coming from the jeep in comparison to the BMW. I'd be the first to complain about the bluetooth trust me.

Hello KarlG, How was the Christmas holidays for your family? Ours was very nice.
As we have talked about, the issue with the streaming audio is with the bitpool of the phones. Several of the Android phones as well as the IPhone have started supporting a higher bitpool than what has been supported on most phones in the past. The supplier for Uconnect that supports the RES, REQ, RHB & RBZ radios has put together an update that includes a much higher bitpool than what these phones are currently supporting and also high enough for them to grow into. Along with this BP update, it will also support the new txt messaging profile that the phone manufacturers are starting to support, called MAP (message access profile). There are a few phones that support it with more coming.
This update has been tested and validated. It was given to Chrysler and they need to do their time studies on performing the update so they know how much the techs will be paid for performing it. The update itself will take about 25 - 30 minutes to perform with the exception of a couple of the Chrysler vehicles that do not come with the USB connector as a factory installed connector.
I have asked about when the update will be available at the dealership but I have had no real answer yet.
The supplier has also been talking with Chrysler about an update for the 2011 vehicles also but this is still being talked about.
I can say that the audio with the BP update is a HUGE difference.

Same. I use the iPhone 4S and BT calls are perfectly clear. Streaming audio works fine as well however I do find streaming audio sounds better once I plug the phone into the USB port.

My Droid 2 Global works fine when it is connected. Streams Pandora perfectly with fidelity that rivals Sirius or CD's copied to the HD when it stays connected.

When it stays connected.

When you are plugged into the cable, you are no longer streaming audio. You are in a direct hook up transmitting the audio across the TX & RX lines of the USB connection. These are 2 separate audio inputs.

Ours was great and the morning after headache from a 1/2 bottle of MOET Imperial Nector was easily handled with a few hours and some Tylenol .

The BP update makes the streamed audio so close to the connected audio that it really becomes not necessary to use the docked connection just for the audio quality alone. Hopefully Chrysler will get it out to the people.

Yes, I was aware of that. Just confirming it for others that were wondering if there was a difference in sound quality.

no problem, I just wanted to make sure because the sentence kind of ran streaming and USB together.

All of the post about my Bluetooth issues and Pat nails it without even knowing it:

Chances are your phone has not been tested for compatability. There is a uconnect phone compatability list on jeep.com check it out and see if your phone has been tested and what software was tested.

Would have thought that you had already checked that before you started posting for help.
Oh, I'll throw out 1 more thing just for the heck of it. Do you have the most current SW in the phone?

Have to know about it to check it. With your expertise I would have thought that would have been your 1st suggestion. With a novice you can't take anything for granted. Guess we both came up short on that one.

It is a company issued phone. I got it three months ago so it may not be the latest version.

yeah, guess you're right. I slacked off and overlooked the obvious. Especially with the suggestion being in the 204 page RHR owners manual that you have. (Page 210)

oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the Droid2 is compatible with the radios that I am most familiar with (RES, REQ, RHB & RBZ) I also told you that I had little experience with the 730N but that I would try to help.
Just curious why that 730N doesn't support as many phones and iPods as the 430N does.

Because (in my opinion) it is an overpriced, under engineered bit of fluff designed to attract the buyer that wants the best but did not do their homework.
One of those buyers would be me. Next time I will not trust Chrysler and will install my own system.
