Body Color Top?

I'm getting ready to order a new JKUR and am waffling on the body color top. I'm definitely going with Copperhead Pearl. I'm looking for non-esthetic opinions / issues with the color matched top. I assume the painted top will scratch easier, that's definitely a consideration.

The black top looks more bad-ass but the body color top looks, um, prettier. I know, laugh all you want at 'pretty' but this will also be a DD and why not look pretty while doing it.

I'm especially curious how the black cage-style racks look with the color matched top.

thanks.

Welcome to WF...
Only you can make this call.

Yes, painted will scratch easier and cost more. Depending on where you live, it also might be cooler in the summer. That is about it.

IMO, most colors don't look good with a matched top. Most of the Wrangler's colors look better with a black top for contrast (Copperhead included).

I went with the painted top for two reasons: one I think it looks better, two everyone else around here has the black top. I wanted my Jeep to look cool and be the only one like it. (in the mall parking lot)

Its a personal choice, only you can decide which is better for you. Are you also going to paint the flares ?

I ordered a white with white top and fenders- love silver and white that way. Copper and red- prefer a black top. Anyway, I do like white but one reason I went with a white top was HEAT. White attracts much less heat so I wanted a white top (or silver). When mountain biking or exploring up high, that sun at altitude is something else.

as others said that a personal preference. since researching about jeeps back from last year, i came to the conclusion that only SOME colors look good with matching color tops. the rest usually look like ASS....

I'm a copperhead owner and i seen you posted in club copperhead, check out more pics in there. i have seen some 2 door models with the matching top but No 4 door models. Personnally Copperhead with matching top is too much orange once again just my honest opinion.

I got mine with a black top.

Thought it looked better, (or more like the softtop i wanted) and hope it will not show scratches or need cleaning so well.

Also looks less like a H3......

I drive a Billet with matched top. However, I think only the core/nuetral colors (Black, White, Billet) look good with the color matched top. The other colors end up being too much of a good thing (see, now you other colors can't be offended )

As others have stated this is your call based on preference. There are 6 Wrangler's in my parking lot at work and only 2 have painted tops (mine included). Not sure why I through that fact in there but I digress.

Personally, I think it depends on color. I'm a fan of all paint on Granite, Billet and Black but other than those I would stray towards a black top for the two-tone look.

I think the copperhead pearl looks awesome but might be too intense with painted top go with black, my commando green is somewhat a dull colour and looks good with painted top, doesn't stand out in my opinion. Great colour choice though!

Whatever you like, get.... I like the painted option myself. And you are gonna get the 'Looks kinda Hummerish' comment from some people. And When you do get that comment, go look at a Hummer and notice the lack of design process taken developing that vehicle and you will see they're hardly similar.

Think I was most frightened of damaging a painted one when taking it off or storing it.

In my limit experience with color matched tops the paint seems to show chips and scratches more from removing and reinstalling the top. Maybe it's just the clear coat because that paint provides a harder than the low gloss black paint.

The flat black is also really easy to touch up with paint pens and even markers.

I don't have any chips or scratches from removing and installing my painted top.

Where I DO have scratches is the rear edge of the rear doors from removing and installing my top.

Word of caution....alwasy open your doors will messing with the hard top.

As others have said it is your jeep and only you know what you will like best. Personally I don't like the color match tops. I do like the color matched fenders but with a black top

Billet Silver here with the matching top and fenders.

It's a retirement vehicle and we will be moving somewhere that the sun shines and did not want the additional heat of the black top.

Hell get it painted, then find someone to sponsor you so you can then get the whole jeep wrapped in their logo.. or do like my wife and I did with our ole 99, hand painted camo.. I was rather fond of the art work I did on the doors.. wife said it actually looked like tree trunks. Later I added silk leaves for a 3D effect.. was a sight to see. Hah I recall a police helicopter follow my wife home then wave as I met her at the door..and fly off.

Like most here I like the painted top on some colors ... I love the painted top on Copperhead, but prefer black on Billet.

Ditto....black tops are hot....have been for years, nothing has changed. You rarely see a black tent, think about it.
But hey, it's your $$$$. Solid silver here.

Thanks everyone for their comments so far.

I hadn't considered the 'some might confuse it with a Hummer' issue. But out here in Seattle unless it's a Subaru or a Prius, I'm not sure most people know what it is anyway

thanks

Screw both hard tops, get a soft top and be done with it!

Painted matched top with black flares! Black is too hot and color matched looks excellent. And I would have to disagree that it scratches easier. It will show the pin striping from rubbing trees and such. But unlike the flat black top, it will buff out in the painted top. Just my two cents.
