Colored top is a game changer on these wranglers. From rugged off road to classy and professional. My #1 rule in getting a wrangler was a colored top. I didn't though. I regret it. Body shop has quoted $1K to smooth and paint mine. I don't care enough to spend the money, anymore.

Our Wrangler stand out with character with black fenders and a black top. This just gives it a more sporty look.
When you paint the top and fenders, well it just looks like any other SUV.
I even like my non-painted Black fenders and Black top on my Black Rubicon, because there is still a contrast there! I have seen the ones that are all painted Black and they just lack that pashas that makes them stand out!

I bought my 2010 Sahara JKU used. I looked at a lot of Jeeps but one of the main reasons I wanted this one was it is white with a black top. Throw in the black rims, black mopar bumpers, and tinted windows and I had to have it. Don't care much for the "all one color" look.

I love the matching top. It's really a matter of opinion and can depend on the particular color as well.

This thread is a year old...

It looks good on some colors, not so much on others.

in 07-08 there was a Khaki option for textured hardtop and softtop only on the Sahara. I chose the Khaki interior/roofs with black so it would have contrast. Glad I did as it is a rare combination..
Not a fan of painted tops especially on the bright colors like Gecko, smurf blue and crush.

Painted hardtop - yes. If you want a black top, put the soft top on.

Never seen that color combo. If you have pics they would be appreciated. Sounds awesome!

That is my opinion as well. I e seen several in Natural Green, Sahara Tan, True Blue, and Billet that looked awesome. For me, it's too much on a White, Dozer, Gecko or Crush. They had an all Gecko JKU at the dealership and after seeing it I was glad I got a black top.

I have a 2013 billet silver JKU and the matching top is a game changer. With the matching top it looks like a newer, more luxurious vehicle.

However, on the down side, the paint on these matching tops is pretty easy to mess up when taking freedom panels or the top off. I could easily see myself getting the top repainted after a few years (not another color, but for touch-up purposes).

Read on if you so desire:

For the record, body-colored or unpainted fenders are a toss-up IMO.
BUT, every single JK Unlimited was designed to look better with a body-colored top! The C-pillar is distractingly incomplete (too thin) without it. For those who insist that the unpainted top "breaks up" the color, it sure does - in a very unflattering way. The tires, bumpers, and windows do PLENTY of "breaking up" of the color. If I owned a JKU with an unpainted hardtop, it would be heading straight to the paint shop for a body-colored top. And if having an unpainted hardtop is "more Jeep-like", then I guess I care about too much about design aesthetics (pass the caviar, Blair... ha ha)

And I'm gonna take it another step further: The extra $1K for the factory body-colored top easily adds $10K to the look of the JKU. Want to make your JKU look $10K LESS expensive? Easy... go with the unpainted top. JKU Sport buyers can go on-and-on about trail scratching this-and-that, mall-soccer-moms and Hummer-wannabes that-and-this, but the bottom line is if you park 'em next to each other, I bet that 95% of folks would pick the body-colored top if cost was not an issue - just like a MacBook with more memory. A body-colored top will likely help your resale value in the long-run.

And that's my $0.03. A good ol' Peace to ALL Jeepers and their hardtops, painted and unpainted! (What do they say? Opinions are like a**holes - everyone's got one.) Cheers!

I completely disagree 100 %

this. IMO, Gecko really needs the black fenders and top to break it up. the others look good with the body colored fenders, but are to much with the matched top.

For what it's worth I would have preferred the black top on my ordered white JKU, but ordered the white painted top.

Reason was I keep my dogs in there not for long periods of time but small run into the store or during hunt test rest periods. I figured the white would reflect the sun better and keep the heat down.

They shouldn't even have the option. A Jeep Wrangler is not supposed to look classy nor have a bunch of fancy features. If you want that, go buy any other SUV. I see a lot of Sahara drivers around here and it makes me frown, not wave. Not to mention the color-matched fenders and top look ugly as hell anyway (especially the top).

This is individual taste and what the person personally likes, there is no right or wrong answer. I have the winter chill arctic edition that looks great with everything matching, with the lift and 35's it adds a touch of class to it. There are come colors that IMO just would not work with a one color scheme..... People need to go with what floats their boat, what's the worst that will happen.... maybe some Jeep snob won't wave to you...

wow, tell us how you really feel... guess there are a lot of people who do not share your feelings regarding what should or should not look classy.... then again I take it from the source... I could say all kinds of things about people who live in New York.... but choose to be respectful about their poor choice of States to reside in..... just do not try to push your anti gun agenda on the rest of us........... 7 rounds only and no large soda's.....

Your poor attitude towards other Jeepers and what they like makes you not worthy of owning a Jeep.

I'm a new Jeep owner and bought mine used with no miles on it. I didn't research color combos before hand, but I'm glad I own a sport with black hardtop.

IMO I think the Sahara matched top is too matchy for the jeep. I like the contrast on mine with Silver and Black. Can't comment on colors other than silver, but for this combo I love the black contrast on fenders and top.

My buddy owns a silver Sahara and I'm not a fan of paint matched fenders and top. I actually was playing around on jeep.com to price out a Sahara with black hardtop and its only available in color matched with options I would want.

Wow, old thread, lol.

I like the color matched look depending on the color. I also live in Vegas and my old TJ got so hot inside it would cook your skull. Color matched lighter colors stay substantially cooler in the desert, still hot, but can at least touch the inside of the roof in the summer.

Ordered mine color matched and wouldnt have it any other way. To each their own.

So when Jeep wranglers broke the $40,000 mark...that's when it from being a fun 4wd drop top to being a classy luxury ride. Leather, heated seats and navigation...yeah I think Jeep knew what they were doing. Now I purposely got mine without leather, but lets face these things ride pretty good...especially compared to my old CJ-7.

I say order or buy it any way you want. I personally like all of the different color combinations out there. I just picked up the rugged brown Sahara with a black top, which I know most don't care for. To each their own and appreciate the differences.
