Bought my Islander from Pat@FieldsJeep

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and just wanted to share my experience with Patrick from Fields Jeep in Northfield, IL.

Joined the site yesterday specifically to contact Pat about a couple Jeeps for sale, he PM'd me back almost immediately with a very thorough page of information regarding price, financing, etc. He was very clear, to the point and gave me a deal I didn't think was possible for a new JK Wrangler.

To sum it up, my new 2010 Wrangler Islander, 6 speed, power group, sirius, side airbags, trac lok, hardtop was 26,630 out the door including the high Chicago sales tax. I can't remember off the top of my head but I can look at my paperwork, but i want to say it came to about 4k off msrp! Employee pricing plus an additional 1500 off and 0% financing for 36 months. Pat was extremely helpful in making this a painless and quick process. I know the car was sitting for a long time since it is a 2010 and it was a little finicky starting. Even though it seems fine Pat swapped out the battery before I bought it WITHOUT me needing to even ask him. Saves me grief in the future

I will make sure I recommend everyone interested in a Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge to pay Pat a visit.

Thank you once again!

You would hope that other dealers/sales staff would take a lesson from Pat. There is nothing like having a good sales and follow up service experience. If I was closer I would have gone there myself. Good luck with your Islander, nice options.

It is a Jeep or Wrangler not a car.

i accompanied jk to the dealer and Pat is a cool guy. He's not only a salesman, he's also a "client"
he has a wrangler of his own and shares in the enjoyment we all take from having owned / currently own one.

my dad may be in the market for a RAM and we may just pay him a visit !

Everything KooL said and a few more things...

Blue accented seats with blue stiching, Mopar slush mats, leather wrapped steering wheel with blue stiching, side steps, rubi springs and shocks, rubi wheels and tires, Islander hood decals (im thinking of removing them) and I think that's about it. If I'm forgetting I'm sure someone will comment on it.

I'll try and get some interior pics, this weather isn't exactly photo friendly.
It's definitely a more "bumpy" ride than other X's I test drove.

Just wanted to add, they did have a green Mountain edition 2 door still on the lot. I almost went for that one but the Islander was about 2k cheaper, silver (color i wanted), and had the rubi springs and shocks which the Mountain didn't (looked underneath, shocks were black).

Someone will get a great deal on that one, I would act fast. Talk to Pat!

Congrats! I recently got a black mountain 4 door.

(Note: I had the stickers removed)

I'm down in GA. I got a pretty similar deal. I encourage anyone interested in buying to consider a 2010 if you can find one and want to save some $$ . Just try not to look inside the 2011's because the new interior is schwwwwweeeeet!

I'm curious about the shocks... I wonder if anyone could confirm or deny if there is a difference between the springs between various models/editions. I was reading some other threads and they stated that all the suspension is basically the same and it is just rated differently depending on your options (wheel size, hard top vs soft top, towing package, 2 door vs 4 door, etc).

In 2010, all models--including your Mountain--except the Rubicon and the Islander have hydro shocks. The Rubicon and Islander had gas shocks.

The Rubicon, Islander, 4 doors, hard tops, and tow packages, TEND to have heavier duty springs.

Thank's for the clarification MTH. That's kind of a bummer. You would think that since the mountain was marketed as the more "off-road centric" vehicle they would have included the rubi shocks! Oh well...chances are one day they will be changed out anyway.

For what it's worth, you (and I) got the power windows, locks, etc. standard.

The Islander and Mountain packages were about equally priced. As far as I tell, this was the principal difference--Islanders got a better suspension as part of their package, whereas Mountains got power windows/locks as part of their package. The rest of the packages were different only in appearance, such as decals, interior touches, wheel style, etc.

Of course, many folks with Islanders undoubtedly added power windows and locks (as did the original poster, who added the "power group"), but they had to pay extra as an "option." You and I didn't have to do that. This is why you'll never see a Mountain without power windows. Similarly, I suppose we could have ordered the "performance suspension" for our Mountains, but it would have cost extra that the OP didn't have to pay.

Personally, I wanted power windows/locks, so the Mountain was the right choice for me. It's easier to upgrade the suspension after market than it is to add power windows.

That black Mountain looks almost like a black ops.

It is the same thing with different stickers and a added rubicon package.

True.

That's because a Black Ops is a Rubicon with the Mountain appointments (gray grille, dark wheels, black gas cap cover, tail light guards, hood decal, etc.) and a few extra stickers (e.g., the star pattern, the skull sticker, etc.). (And the 2011 interior, of course.)

When I was in the market for a Mountain, I remember asking "Why doesn't Jeep make a Rubi with all the Mountain gear? That'd be great." Jeep did exactly that the following year when they came out with the Black Ops edition.

Would've been out of my price range anyway . . . .

Yep- on the outside they are pretty close in appearance once I removed the stickers. I wasn't trying to copy the black ops ...just sort of worked out that way.
