Brand new 2013 wrangler leaking

Hi, I'm obviously new to this forum and a new jeep owner, Now I have searched around and found quite a few threads on 2012 wranglers having leaks in the passenger side under the floor mats. Anyways. I had my brand new 2013 only about a week and I noticed the passenger side floor was damp under the mat. So today I pulled up the carpet and surely enough there was a bunch of water there. I took the drain plugs out and vacuumed up what was left of water. I noticed that water kept leaking down from in between the seat and inside door seal under the carpet. I tried my best to get all the dampness because I don't want problems down the road.

Now this problem could very well be the same problem as the 2012's had, and that being said. Is it even worth trying to take it to a dealer to get fixed, or will they just say that they can't seem to find a leak spot anywhere. I have read some problems that others have had, and the dealers appear to be no help at all. Thanks for your time, any input appreciated.

Somebody recently found a plug or something up under the dash on the body to leak. I believe he sealed it up and fixed the problem ?

That doesn't really explain why the source of the water was coming from the inside of the door between the seats though.

Dealer time ... Good luck. They get a ton of leak complaints.

Feel your pain with the leak issues

I just broke 5000 miles on my new Wrangler Unlimited 4-door and have been having problems with water on left-side floor pan. I took it in to the service department and they "fix" it. One week later, it rained and my carpet was wet. When I called the dealer to discuss with them, the service department said "Even if we fix this leak, there is a 50% or better chance I can expect to see your Jeep back in the next 30,000 miles or so with leak issues." He then went on to point out that Jeeps are made to get wet and that is why they use a mold resistant carpet. I told him I would figure it out with help from the Wrangler community. Love my Jeep (3rd Wrangler), can't stand my local Jeep service. Best of luck with your water issues and happy trails.

I have a 2014 and have a similar problem, just part of owning a jeep in my opinion.

This is my first Jeep, however, I dont get the "Its a jeep its going to do that" exscuse?

Ya maybe in the early days of the jeep yada yada...but we are in the year 2013 and unless you drive your jeep into water there shouldnt be any reason for a "LEAK".

I have a 2013 and the soft top started leaking on the seams. Took it to the dealer - they had it an entire day and was able to duplicate the problem. They ordered a new top.

If they had said " its a jeep and thats why we use mold resistant carpet" I would have asked them to go tell all thew buyers on the lot that. See how many they sell with that line.

If its not right make them fix it. If they dont want to take it to another dealer.

Stand up for yourself.....sometimes I think people are to lazy to fight for whats right. Your a Jeep owner...not a Fiat owner...

What did you pay for that Jeep? Wish I could treat all my major purchases that way. Might as well open up your door and spray it down every morning.

If you have one that isn't leaking you are the lucky one. If you want to take it back to the dealer every few months, ok. Yeah I paid a lot. I had a '12 it leaked I took it back a few times it still leaked. I bought a '14 and I know once I have the top off sooner or later it will begin leaking... it is only a matter of time. Do you own a tent? Does it leak? Pop up camper? Does it leak?

Sure I expect it to leak if its ...lets say 6 years old...but not less than a year and under 6,000 miles.

Every vehicle has issues....in a matter of time. Just dpends on what time your willing to expect as "normal".

I own a tent - 5 years old and doesnt leak.....sure someday it will...by then i ll probably be ready for a new tent. Thats acceptable.

I guess I am just to picky. I use my jeep for fun on the trails and in town driving. I have an AMP and custom sub box in the rear I dont need getting wet. The sub box in Rino lined but I dont want my top leaking on i everytime it gets wet. I installed the amp in a custom amp rack on the fender well so it wouldnt get wet if I happen to drive through some deep water....not to get dripped on from the softtop.

maybe a hardtop is an upcoimg purchase

I have a 2011. Bought it this past November. Noticed in Spring that every time it rained I had wet front passenger carpet. Actually saw the water coming in front passenger door area near the front "corner". I don't know if its worth it to take to the dealer because I don't even know how I will prove its leaking, not to mention I don't want them tinkering around with a tonne of things to possibly not even fix it. Seems like I should try resealing my front cowl and possibly the top corner where the hard top attaches? Thoughts? Any of you with this leak find a consistent spot it came in and manage to fix it?

PS. I also don't buy the "its a Jeep it will happen" stuff. Its a quality vehicle and I understand its made to play hard and get a bit dirty, but that doesn't mean I won't try to rectify defects.

I'm with you. If I paid $30,000+ for a vehicle I would keep sending the bastard back to the dealership until it was fixed.

If you can see it then you should be able to record it. Bust out your phone, record some video, then take your jeep to the dealer.

MIne is a 2002 but leaks in the exact same spot you mentioned. Its the seal under the hardtop.

The current generation are garbage and prone to leak. Do what I'm doing and wait for the redesign. Hopefully it happens in 2016, if not, I'll wait until it does. A new car should lot leak, no matter what some here might say.

Well mine is NOT garbage. I have a 12' Unlimited Sahara, and I've had it for over a year and a half and NO leaks what so ever!! This past June/July here in MI we got 13" of rain in less than a month. Some of that rain came in extreme down pours, and my Jeep was completely dry.

So don't bash a vehicle that you haven't owned.

You're missing out on a ton of fun in the mean time.
better off not sweating the small stuff so much as life has a way of passing you by.

Sure some leak...some don't.
Eventually you will get some kind of leak and you deal with it.
Clean the seals...trace the leak and correct it.

The redesign I'm sure will come with its own set of new issues ...still a Jeep so it will leak at some point.
Does water come gushing in ... nope.

Should a 30k vehicle have any leak well then you have to weigh that in your head. Most likely from your post you don't get it and never will.

FIAT has had some interesting visual designs so I for one didn't want to chance the change for sure.

Maybe best to move along and get an ordinary sealed SUV.

My 13' hasn't leaked a drop, and I've been in some big rains. Never had the top off but the t-tops have been off several times. I've been really happy with mine. If I ever get a leak I can figure it out. Sometimes paying attention to the details is what's most important.

Back in 1978 I bought a Northface K-2 tent. It cost $450.00 I still use it and it's never leaked. It came with Easton poles and they're still like new. Really a good tent.

No, just a customer who didn't bother with getting the dealership run-around. I pulled off my Freedom Panels, cleaned all of the seals, and carefully re-installed..being very careful not to torque the thumb screws (through the rollbar) too tightly. No leaks. 19K miles, 12 months, in a wet environment (Louisiana). BTW, my rag-top 2000 TJ that I sold off last summer didn't leak either. It's NOT a "Jeep Thing"; if you wanted that sort of wet off road experience just save a pot full of coin and buy a Razor. Make them get it right, otherwise the dealerships will think they can get away with treating all Jeepers like second class citizens.

I agree. It's only a jeep thing if you let it be so. Anytime you buy something, demand the quality you're paying for it. Jeeps are not cheap, but then, I wouldn't accept leaking in any vehicle.

The dealership might not know how or care to fix it. Do some research and talk to other dealerships.

Good luck. If you fix it, I hope you post how and why, so that others with the issue will have some more information.

Eh, I have had two leaks in my 2012. Both repaired by the dealership. Most have leak "specialists" to take care of this stuff. In my case they ended up replacing the door seals on front driver and passenger doors. Not too big a deal, although it was a pain in the butt taking my Jeep in and leaving it for a day both times and being without my ride.

Now I am more concerned about my Pentastar problem with my tick and CEL coming on. Finally going to take it in and droop her off today for this issue. Hope they get it taken care of right.

While I do love my Jeep, she has been in the shop quite a few times already for leaks, parts coming off that shouldn't (another story), and now engine issues....

Jeep is replacing my soft top next week. If it becomes a repeat problem then we need to start talking hardtop.

I pretty much told the service advisor jeep it till you can duplicate the problem. By noon they hadn't duplicated the issue. Found out they had some 18 yr old kid simply spray it down with a pressure washer.

After suggesting they let the water flow over the top from a hose, about 30 minutes later the seam was leaking on the top.

Sure it's not conveiant being without transportation, but it's not designed to leak so they should make it right.
