Brand New 430N on eBay

Hey guys, I just saw this on eBay and the auction is ending soon:

2011 2012 RAM 2011 2013 Minivan 430N RHB Mopar 82212477 Navigation Radio | eBay

My question is whether this will work in my 2013, and if so, would I have to install a GPS antenna above the soundbar? Anyone know? Should I bid?

Thanks!

I have a 430N out of a 11 RAM 1500. It's in the Missus' 09. Went in without a hitch. No bluetooth/handsfree yet. Check and see if you get the antitheft code with it. If not, you better pass.

Did you hook up a GPS antenna?

Personally I wouldn't pay that much for a factory unit when you can get a better after market nav unit for less money.

if it's truely brand new there is no code yet. It will sync up to the cam bus for the first boot up so he will be fine. As for the antenna, if you have surius sat radio currently, then the antenna is the same for Nav, and no need to install anything. The unit will be plug and play. If you do not have sat radio currently then you will have to install the sat/navi antenna. If you get the radio and it does not come with the antenna I have a brand new one you can have. You would run the antenna up and around to the top of the sound bar! What does your 2013 have in it right now? connectivity? blu tooth/uconnect? Surius?

Cool. I want to stick with a factory look, and the direct plug n' play is also nice. I also looked into a few aftermarket options with GPS and lots of them seem to have serious issues. I see where you're coming from though.

It's ebay so it's hard to say where the price will end up over the next two hours but right now the price is very decent for a fresh in-box 430N.

Fair enough, I understand wanting the factory look. Not sure what you mean by "direct plug n' play" and "serious issues" though.

$800+ being a good price for a middle of the range factory head unit really surprises me, what do they normally go for?

Middle of the range? Not to me- I have a single disc AM/FM unit!

They typically go for about a grand.

I've just read a bunch of reviews where the GPS on some aftermarket units malfunctions - i.e. takes drivers to places that don't actually exist, or locates drivers in entirely wrong states and whatnot. I guess "serious issues" was a little dramatic lol

Yes. It is not the one that runs over the speaker pod. It uses one that mounts right above the radio.

I LOVE the 430N!!! I paid $870ish as a brand new unit and it was plug and play. Took me 15 minutes to install it. The navi is super fantastic. used it on two long trips so far and its spot on! Even gives you a real picture of the upcoming intersection and lines in the lanes you should be in!!!

2010 and newer units use the same antenna for Nav AND SAT radio!!!! it's above the sound bar.

Sounds great. I don't think I would mind the blue lighting... I think I will bid on this one in the last few minutes and see if I get lucky. I don't want to pay more than like $875 though. Wish me luck!

Weird- he said his was from an '11 Ram... maybe it's different for the truck units?

Wow. You can get a brand new Pioneer AVIC-Z150 (probably the best all round nav unit on the market today), a good amp, a full set of speakers, all your harnesses and change for a case of beer for that money.

In fact, if the 430N goes for a grand on eBay, you could still get the head unit, the harnesses and the beer instead.

Eh...I'd say that may be true for cheap units, but you get what you pay for. Stick with the big names and you be more likely not to have issues like that.

I pulled that very unit and sold it to the fund the 430N. PO had mounted the AMP under the driver's seat. WRONG! Ran all the speaker wiring back up to the harness for the stock radio. Cut the wires behind the stock plug (left me enough to splice thankfully) and took a dremel to the frame the stock radio went in (anything other than stock requires modding the dash).
Bluetooth mic for this unit looks like a lapel mic. Phone book sync worked well on iPhone. Took a dump with Android.

Oh, and the Nav and bluetooth are separate modules. So there are little boxes mounted up all over the backside of the dash.

OP, do what you want as long as you are happy with it.

This is why the plug and play functionality of the 430N appeals to me. I can just pull the dash, unplug the old unit, and plug the 430N in using the same exact wiring- no dremeling behind the dash, no splicing, no looking up wire color charts, etc. I'm sure there are awesome aftermarket units that are much better than the 430N, but I would have to pay some dude to install them, and that dude would have to cut my factory wires and dash to make it fit- no thanks- I'd rather pay a premium for something that will slide right into place.

That said, I completely understand that others would rather go the aftermarket route- more power to you!

I went the same route. The factory unit looks so much better IMO.

If the OP wants a mic and blutooth for hands free they will need the uconnect module, the mic, and then go to the dealer to be flashed for the cam bus

I'm not for a moment suggesting that he shouldn't, and as I said I can understand the desire to stay with the factory look and function. I'm just suggesting possible alternatives that I would consider worthy of consideration, especially given the amount of money we're talking about.

I have heard that Android connectivity with the AppRadio service isn't as good as with iPhone. That's disappointing, but I'm sure it will improve. I'm guessing you can't have had that particular head unit for very long, nor the previous owner, given it was only launched at the beginning of this year. I would hope that maintenance releases will improve some of that integration.

I'm curious why you think it was wrong to install an amp under the driver's seat?

If it is out of the right vehicle (high speed bus), it will work. But I don't know if that one is set up for Connectivity or not.

$850 right now with shipping?

I would have to consider aftermarket....

I paid $259 shipped for my 430 RBZ (non nav).

Either way, good luck with your bidding!

Yeah I know that the non-nav units can be had for far less, but the navigation was the primary reason I wanted to upgrade. I don't actually have connectivity and don't even really want it- I don't talk on the phone while I'm driving as a general rule (hate being on the phone and love driving!). So I wanted in-dash navigation and the hard drive for music storage, plus sirius.

Thanks to everyone for their input on whether they would spend the same money on the same product, but that really wasn't what I was asking about... I guess my "should I bid?" question implied that I was seeking advice as to whether someone else would choose this model, but I was really just trying to make sure that the unit would be a plug & play replacement in my JK!

yeah, that was the other thing, make sure its a high speed bus. Low speed won't work
