Fellow Jk owners, let me tell you a little about my new wrangler jk 2011 2dr sport. I drove it for 2 days before it went back into the shop for 8 days. The problem was the manual transmission popping (sliding?) out of gear in 2,4,6. A little background, I live in northern Alberta, where it is only now thawing out from a cold winter. Still relatively cold in the morning at or just below 0 celsius. I noticed the problems only when it is cold started in the morning and usually stops happening after 15-20 minutes of warmup or drive time. The first time it went in they replaced several key pieces of the transmission. From the service order and the tech I gleaned that a shift rail or guid was mis-aligned and that several gears had broken teeth already ( I reiterate that I only had it for 2 days, BRAND NEW) After they gave me the jeep back I didn't notice the problem for a day or two and then it got cold again and it started happening in 2d and 4th gear, I was making sure I was firmly putting it into gear each time and I would remove my hand and it would just pop out, scaring the crap out of me) Returned to dealer and guess what, they can not recreate the issue, even in cold weather. This is a documented issue with several people on different forums have this problem but they are not willing to do anything for me. It is documented fully in Chryslers system and to cover my ass I phoned the 1-800 number to file a complaint and open a file for me. What happens when I get in an accident because of this? So now I decide I'm going to rig my video camera up to get some proof, the problem is, it isn't cold anymore and I can not recreate the problem. I ask of you my fellow JK owners, what should I do? I do not want to wait 6 more months until it gets cold again to have this fixed. I get the feeling that I simply got a lemon of a transmission (broken gears straight off the showroom floor???) and wish to have the problem fixed immediately. As for the rest of my jeeping experience I can honestly say that I truly love this vehicles upgradeability. I view it the same way I view my computer, as I can make it look prettier with some modifications and I can make it more functional with some modifications. So far I have had no problems with taking the top off, taking the doors off and removing the grill/ I am copying some other owners and running a simple plastic gutter guard grille underlay to protect my radiator, pics incoming. I hate the engine but I was tired of waiting for a diesel or a pentastar. My biggest dissapointment aside from the transmission problems is the noise from the injectors. It is seriously so loud that I can hear them in the cab at any speed. For some reason I do not have the under hood cover/insulation that I have seen on other jeeps of this model year. My next question to you people is how can I remedy that? Order the part from Mopar or insulate it myself with...dynomat? Sorry for the long winded disjointed post.
You may not know this but you have all been a HUGE help to me in the whole process of researching, buying, and modifying my Jeep and I feel special to be a part of this community. Thanks again, and happy trails from Oil country.
