I just received my new JKUWW but I still have my Accord as a beater car. I have a catering that is an hour away tomorrow and I can't fit everything in my Honda. Can or should I drive an hour on the highway with a brand new Wrangler? Aren't I supposed to stick to low speeds, constant shifting etc? Will I hurt something if I do this?
Help!
I'm pretty sure you have to stay around 50mph for the differentials, the engine likes a variety of speeds, including flooring it as your moving to help seat the valves. And a few relatively hard braking maneuvers to help seat the pads. So yes your first 500 miles or so will be in the slow lane.
+1 For such an early trip, I agree, the key is to vary your speed. Spend some time in the right lane. And spend some time in the left lane Swapping between on a regular basis.
I drove ours home from the dealer 2 hours on the highway. The dealer had put 450 miles on it already bringing it to E Texas from W Texas. No problems so far. Over 1800 miles racked up now.
Your right. It's only 450 miles from Monahans to Greenville. I guess transports are too expensive. They were going to get me one from south Louisiana but the other dealer backed out of the trade at the last minute. I'm actually glad they did, it was more expensive anyway.
By the way, I live in neither East or West Texas...DFW. So it got a few miles by day 2.
My god, just drive the freaking thing.....you'll be fine. Unless you set the cruise to 65 and let it run for 2 hours straight, you'll be fine. Even if you did that, I'll bet you'll be fine. Break in is overrated. You need some RPMs and miles to seat the rings really early on, but other than that nothing else is all that critical.
That was kind of my point...4 jeeps and 7 F150s...I've never had a problem.
