Brown coolant??

So i purchased a new 2013 sahara last month and have intermittently heard the waterfall in my dash and read all about it on here. But when i popped the rad cap off, the coolant is brown. Is it suppose to be that color or should it still be purple like in the resovoir overflow?? Any info much appreciated!

Oh that doesn't sound good at all. Brown can mean oil mixed with coolant although that usually is more milky coloured. Typically a head gasket leak but it could be elsewhere. Check your oil.

Now being new I suppose you could be one of the few who have the heater core with remaining sand issue. If that is the case, and now that I think about it, this is more likely it will need to go back to the dealer for some warranty work.

The coolant colour should be a deep translucent green.

:@ thats not good, i have great heat on both sides of the car so im not sure that my heater core is shot, i havnt been using my heat so i dont do any further damage. I thought the coolant was purple on 2013s? Its purple in the overflow. I was afraid it might be a sand issue -.- so whats the best step, get them to do a coolant flush? Thanks guys, new to these beasts

Your '13 should be purple, not green as stated above and of course not brown. Purple and only purple.

But here's the thing... The '13-'14 coolant is known to perform illusions and fool people into thinking its brown or orange. Get a syringe or cooking baster thing and suck some coolant up and hold it up to the light. You will see purple.

It's true - we had to pull some out of the radiator & the bottle & put it in white cups to see if they were the same color, it's tricky.

On another note - I had the water pump replaced on my 13 a month or so ago & went to a different dealership just to get some more coolant (it's just a little low & I lose it out the overflow wheeling). I took it outside & poured a little in the cap to make certain it was the same as whats in there now & it wasn't. The bottle was purple & mine is orange/pink (but looks completely pink in the overflow). The parts guy spent about an hour asking the techs & finally calling the dealership that did my water pump & came to the conclusion that Chrysler has come out with a new orange coolant. He said not many places have it yet & he couldn't even order it. He said something about Fiat uses it & dealers that have a certain level of tech get the stuff first - blah, blah, blah. I have no idea if it's true or not, I need to talk to my friend at my dealership.

But from what everyone's said - dont mix em, make sure you have the right one by pulling some out to look. And don't believe anyone, look for yourself.
