Building a High Lift Hood Mount !!! Am I mad ?

So I was looking at Hood high lift mounts and at nearly a hundred bucks I decided to see if I could manufacture one myself !!

Been at it today along with Plasti Diping my door hinges, got to wow what a job, for some one who has never used this plasti dip stuff before, has no experience painting/spraying , and pretty much guessing and using the forum photos, what an absolutely crap job I did I'll try again next weekend..

So back to the mount, I found some strong wide L shaped metal about 4 inches high and wide at the local hardware store. Got some rubber foam, some Hammerite spray paint ( ahhh I have to spray again!! ). Plan is arrange 2 of the L shape metals into a wide U shape bolt these 2 together. Drill 9/32 holes the same width as the hood hinge bolts. Spray the brackets with the Hammerite , line the brackets with the rubberized foam inside the U to give the jack a nice soft place to sit and not make any noise. line the underside for a nice snug and friction free / non paint scraping free seat. Bolt in place using new longer hood bolts.
Repeat on other side.
I should then have a nice secure hi lift jack mount attached by the hood mounting points and below the line of my windshield mounted lights

So today I assembled the L brackets into a U shaped , drilled the hood mount holes and then it or dark,,

Can't finish tomorrow as I am out on the trails but will update with some pictures of the items purchased and the steps and of course the final build during the week.
I know if there's no pictures it didn't happen so they will be posted shortly.

It's funny, I've never felt the urge to do this sort of stuff before !

If youre going through hell, keep going. Churchill

If you did a crappy job with your plasti diping good luck with tackling the hi life jack mount.

Eh, you don't figure out how to get stuff done until you start doing it. I'll bet you'll get it to work, think that you could have done a better job somehow and now get the bug to keep doing stuff yourself. Good luck!

Hood mounts scare me. If I ever needed it I am sure I would be in a hurry, flustered, and probably drop it on my hood coming off or going on.
