I was lucky enough to pick up a set of these for a good enough deal to take a risk on them. Let me tell you what I discovered once I received them. If these are not produced off of the same drawings that PS aluminum fenders are I will eat my shorts (as Bart Simpson would say). They are IDENTICAL from what I can tell. The overall design is the same, the installation is identical, (download the instructions from both manufacturers. The same instructions!) the fit was spot on and the powdercoat finish is a nice textured semi satin black powdercoat, the welds look like aluminum welds should (and I run a manufacturing shop) and they came with quality installation hardware. It has all the same bracing to tie the fenders into the body support structure that PS comes with and they fit perfectly with my PS inner liners as well. The eyeball test says all the flanges appear to be of the same thickness aluminum and holding a PS and the BW flare in my hand they feel very similar in weight.
Are they the same? I don't know for sure... but I know who owns PS now and it wouldn't shock me to find out that they sold out the product line or are made by the same manufacturing group. If you are looking for a lightweight aluminum fender that's decent quality and has the added benefit of leaving a few $$$ in your pocket for some other mods I suggest you take a look. I've seen them for $749 a set compared to $1100 - $1200 a set for PS flares bare aluminum.
No, I do NOT work for BW or represent their product in any way. I just am happy with a purchase I made and think others will like them as well.
I'll snap a couple for you and get those measurements. My Jeep is in MY shop right now. Doing another gear swap and welding in all new control arm, trackbar brackets and trusses. It NEVER ends!
How's the gap issue with the curve of the line - especially over the top edge of the stock flare edge? I have been really interested in these flares but I was hoping to not be a guinea pig this time.
The gap is consistent. The top of the fender is a very slight Arc that follows the line on the Jeep. They are not flat on top like some flares are. I hope to get down the shop tonight and I'll get some good photos for you guys.
Thank you for the photos! We ended up going With the bushwacker flats but not the aluminum. Install was super easy and fun ripping out the stock fenders. We used the stock inner fender liners both front and back. I don't like how the stock fenders stick out more than the front grill - these bushwackers are flush now
I'm making sure to keep the weight down on my Jeep, so this is relevant to my interests. I'm probably just going to make my own aluminum bumper, but the fender flares are a bit beyond even what I foresee my abilities being in the future.
I agree. I could probably make a set if I really was forced into it but there are a lot of angles and bends that you don't realize are there to get the fender tight to the body and follow the body lines.
Flat aluminum fenders are on my list too - do BW do a wider version? I have all aluminum armour and bumpers and ride pretty much at stock height still...
I'm glad to hear they seem good overall. I have been looking at them a bit, and saw this on amazon. Now, there could be install error for some things, but this is the issue I had heard about previously where the font doesn't fit right - rumor is it was an early run before they fixed the issue, but some shipped out. I'm not sure I like those odds yet, though I'm sure Q-tec would fix the issue or return anyhow.
I completely understand the hesitation. I will tell you this... Just from the pictures he has in his review I can tell you he does not have them installed correctly. I see missing hardware and support brackets in his images.
I can't speak for everybody but these have been great for me. The powder coating is been real durable as I rub them up against a couple trees offroading. They look great and I got a lot of compliments on them.
Yes. The one and only difference I could find between the BW fenders and the PS fenders was the BW fenders used 8mm nutserts and the PS used 5/16 nutserts.
They do not come with any liners. They do come with brackets to hold trimmed Factory liners but they seem pretty hokey. What you do see on mine is the Poison Spyder non vented liners which fit perfectly with these. No surprise there...
I installed these a few months ago. I was extremely impressed with these considering the cost difference from PSC. These HAVE to be a straight ripoff. Powdercoating is good. Lines up perfectly.....
But I will say that I had the same issue as that Amazon reviewer did when I did the install. Mine were a PITA to install because they were flat where they mount on the Jeep and I had to bend them to the body curves. Took lots of time going around the whole flare tightening each bolt a little at a time while going through steps of installing, marking drill holes, uninstalling, drilling, reinstalling and bending it to shape.... etc etc. Once done though it lines up perfect and is rock solid.
Took me three hard PITA days to finish. That was with a nutsert tool which I HIGHLY recommend. Plus you can then use that tool to install PSC crusher corners and rocker armor!
I also installed Ace inner fenders up front and had to trim some around the marker light to make them work together. Also can not install the $40ish insert piece as the fender brackets are in the way.
I had zero issues with the install with the exception of the front brackets on the rear fenders. They won't line up no matter what I do with them so I left them off. As a bonus, there is another huge benefit to these fenders... Lunch time!
No issues here either. I got all the brackets in as well. The fronts were kind of a PIA since I did the PS inners as well. Took a little time but it got done. The fronts took me about 6 hrs or so, maybe a bit more. The rears went in half the time.
+1 for lunch too. My last time out on the trail my lunch sat in the same spot.
