When I say my garage was heated, I meant with a space heater, as well. I did what you're thinking about...couldn't wait, so ran the heater all night (actually 2 nights, since I had to work in the middle of the install), then did the install.

I didn't have any issues...although I DID wait 24 hours before driving my Jeep out in the cold, to make sure the automotive tape that holds the fenders to the body would have time to cure. That's the important part of the whole process, IMO. If the tape pulls away from the body, it'll never stick properly again without replacement.

You can do it in a garage with a space heater, no problem.

I think im gunna tear it up this weekend then... 2 days ought to be enough time for me

I wouldn't worry about a short period of cold...just keep the space heater going, and you should be fine. The main reason for doing it in a warm/controlled environment is to make sure folks don't have issues with the tape sticking. But once you put the actual fenders on, the tape sticks very fast. Just give it a little head-start by not driving your Jeep for awhile, and you should be good to go.

I waited the whole 24 hours, but had my gf's car to use for work. Seriously, though, I think if I'd had to drive my rig after a few hours, I wouldn't have had any problems, unless there was snow/rain (and I don't think there was, last year when I did mine.)

Well i'll do fronts first then if i have time i'll try out the rears. Luckly the girls on board with all the mods so I'll have a ride if all else fails lol

actually there is a way to get around having to replace the tape.....I ALMOST tore the right front flare off wheeling in the woods....found some black body trim glue and put it behind the tape holds very well and cured in just about 5 minutes.

That took forever lol i had the first one off and installed in 4hrs, then the others went really fast but it was a solid weekend project. Im soooo happy with the results minus the fact that my thumbs are now numb after stabbing myself with the scratch awl lol

Also, using a Dremel with a cutting wheel made it much easier to cut my splash guards. The directions call for a pneumatic hand saw, which would also work, or a hacksaw, which would be a nightmare, imo.

I didn't drill out any of the plastic rivets that hold the splash guard and OE fender together (another deviation from the written directions). A simple trim tool worked great for me. I used the same tool to pry the leftover retaining clips out of the sheet metal after pulling each fender off.

Make sure you've got a warm place to work in. It was 38º here when I worked on mine, but I was in a heated garage. The adhesive used on the fenders needs about 24 hours in 60º+ temps to cure properly. Probably not crucial...plenty of folks have done em in cold weather, from what I've read.

Buy or borrow a skinny awl. You'll want it to line up the metal clips with the existing screw holes before you screw the fender on. Probably makes no sense the way I just described it but, trust me, you'll want an awl for the install.

One final thing: In Step #49, they tell you to use the "edge tool" to push the edge trim tight against the Jeep body. But you'll quickly find out that's not a good idea; the trim wants to tuck in between the fender and body...you'll see what I mean once you get to that step.

Instead of using the narrow end of the edge tool, turn it lengthwise and use it to horizontally push against the trim. That'll seat the trim without crimping it.
This is perfect advise. I've done three sets now and they always take about 6-7 hours when working alone. I have a nice warm shop and the Jeep is a hobby so I never hurry on these things, take your time and enjoy it. The most difficult part is cutting the inner fenders properly.

Yupp i agree silverton. It was a great project just verrrrry tedious. I got a quote for it from a local shop just to see what they would charge to get an idea on what id save. 600 BONESSSSS :0

I just did mine last weekend. (http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ins...es-221504.html

With the help of kbwwolf's tips and other input here I was able to do a right nice job. One tool It would strongly suggest is the one shown below. It was one I just happen to have and man did it make it nice. I removes the black keepers that hold a lot of the fender and inner fender together. They are a cheap get at Harbor freight (Like $4)

Happy early birthday to me.........I just ordered these fenders! I will be reading all the great tips on here until the brown santa brings them to my door! Then my hubby and I will spend some quality time together putting these on my jeep! Lol!

Why do these fenders need the adhesive? The screws aren't strong enough to attach them otherwise?

Is more the design than anything...screws are underneath with the actual mounting hardware..the "Top" is what needs "glued"/ "secured"....makes for a cleaner install

Most Good auto parts stores should have it...am also sure you could contact Bushwaker .....fairly certain the way that tape is they got someone full time just taking orders and sending it out....I had issues with the tape on mine and used a Black body molding glue to reatach

Yes, you can order from BW. I got some when I had to reinstall on of my flares.

Gonna redo all of them this summer, as the tape is separating from the body in some spots. I'm certain it's an install issue and is not related to product quality.

The best advice I received was to switch out the bolts. The install was pretty easy, just time consuming and it's recommended to do it in weather warmer than 65 degrees - which we had to wait on for once.

I used tin snips to cut the inner flares, I chopped them about an inch wider than I wanted first and then went back and trimmed them down nice. This is the hardest part of the install. For the back inners I scrapped cutting them at all - I threw them aside and bedlined it instead.

How does the tire coverage on these compare to the stock fenders? I want to get larger tires but the cops in PA suck when it comes to tire coverage. I love the look of these flatties but probably need to gain 1+ inches for these to work for me.

PA is a pain. I know you gain a little with them, but if you go bigger tires and aftermarket wheels, you may get stuck. If you stick to pizza cutter tires though, you should be fine - they also do better in snow.

Then you will be really glad to know they don't secure with tape. The tape you refer to is actually an adhesive backed molding designed to fill any gaps between the fender and the body. It's the same adhesive that holds all moldings on all cars made. You can leave it off if you like, it's certainly not necessary.
