Hey guys, I am planning on purchasing my first jeep ever. I have it narrowed down to 2 different options at a dealership of my choice. I have picked this dealership because of ..... whatever....and it helps hey have agreed to let me purchase all the accessory at their cost in the future. So that being said both Jeeps are unlimited, auto, hard top, power wind,dr, and mirrors. (Which I could care less, it's a jeep) my plan is to do a 4in lift and 35..
jeep 1. 2014 Jeep2. 2015
Mi. 46,000 Mi.20,400
3.73. 3.21
Out the door for me because of trade
2000. 4000
Leather. Cloth
Listed sale price
27,500. 29,900

I would buy extended warranties for both which one would you do.
What are your thoughts, mine are to go with higher mileage for the 3.73
Please any comments I would be great fun!

First, welcome aboard. :)

Anyway, check with the dealer first before you buy an extended warranty if you are going to install a 4" lift. They may not cover any related suspension, etc., components. Also, the 35" tires are going to make it feel sluggish with 3.21 gearing.

If you do not plan to regear and really want 35" wheels I'd recommend the higher milage o.e with 3.75. If you plan regearing then get the lower milage o e and regear it to 4.21 when lifting ans putting the big wheels.

Here is also a question... Do you actually go off road? If not you can also consider not lifting it and going for the (little) better gas milage of the 3.21. And still you can handle all the occasional off roading you need, from easy to intermediate trails to beach.

If you do hard core off roading... Well maybe you want to regear anyways and put lockers etc.

So the option 3.75 and lifting with 35" wheels it's an intermediate and cost saving option.

Build the cost of regearing into the equation. 35's off road and the 3.21 isn't a match. The 3.73 on the higher miles is still marginal for 35s off road.

If regearing isn't in your future and you do intend to use it for serious off-road, then keep the F-150.

Happy with my jeep, but mechanically it's the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned and I bought it new. Do not get a clutch. Fiat doesn't know how to make one that lasts more than 10,000 miles. Lots of other things fail or flake out for awhile. Maybe you'll be better finding a Jeep before Fiat bought the company.

You are aware that current JK was put together under daimler ownership, and there is nothing fiat in it. Including transmission. Furthermore it's build in an historic American jeep plant.

I have bought a jk new and mine is not a pice of junk but if yours is maybe you want to blame something or somebody else than fiat.

I'd go for the 2015 because it would have the remainder of the original warranty.
ALSO....I don't know what you do for a living, but you may want to check to see if the company you work for is on Chrysler's "approved vendor" list. If it is, then with a little bit of paperwork, you can purchase a new vehicle for 1% under dealer invoice.....just a thought......

Leaving aside the other parts of your post, my philosophy is that low mileage always trumps higher mileage. You can fix any mechanical issues but you can't fix miles, and they always go in only one direction, up.

I couldn't tell which of the features that you could care less about but why spend the money on features you don't want? I know it's hard to find used Jeeps that have only the features you want and not ones that you don't want (and don't want to pay for) but if you're patient and keep looking you'll find one sooner or later.

Between the two, like Faziomba said (both posts).

I voted high miles & 3.73 diffs, but there's really to many unknowns for the poll to be of much value.

I voted that way because no way would I want to go with bigger tires on 3.21 diffs. If you want to regear it for bigger tires or if one's a Sahara and one's a Sport that would change my answer.

I don't think future accessories at dealer cost should be a big factor in deciding which dealership to buy from. It costs the dealership absolutely nothing to throw that in and in many cases, Mopar parts don't exist for a particular application or there are better quality/price aftermarket options.

go with the 2015!!

The 2014's had a problem with leaking rads, bad camshaft position sensor and faulty HVAC controls.

...another point of reality is Jeep will do just fine on most trail duty as stock OEM without stringent ever-more-costly mods.

We can all concoct reasons to do whatever mods we want based on entirely personal notions of 'what a Jeep SHOULD be'.

I ran 4x4 pick ups for decades before my first JK. While at times I did miss the haul space, a dandy M100 Bantam ammo trailer popped up & all was well.

The exuberance of making our internal vision of our Jeep fit what's parked in our driveway can be extended as far as the bank account allows. Whether such is a necessity let alone even desirable depends on our notion of happiness in the Jeep World.

The only time I thought I needed 4" lift was that unpleasant episode mired in the bottomless swamp trail about 30 years ago. Considering it took a hotrod 4x4 pickup and 2 different tractors to retrieve my stupid butt for going there in the first place, no amount of lift would have helped.

re: "Please any comments I would be great fun" I'm a fan of the general advantages of 3.73 in anything I buy. And less miles is more smiles. I suspect we would use our Jeep considerably differently, so our notions of needed mods will be different as well.

Good luck.

Thank you

Thank you all so much.. I guess the only question now is are the 15s that much better than the 14s.. is 14 the only year to watch out for for of the new generation Pentistar..? Like is the 13 ok 15 ok 16? Etc. the 14 was that bad to not consider eh?

I am really greatful for all your input I hope I can return the favor to Newby's like myself in the future. !!!

2015 and regear.

When I look at mileage, I try to look at the yearly average to really get an idea of how much it was driven. For argument sake, say both were purchased on the 1st of Jan for their respective years, the '14 avg'd 15K miles per year and the '15 avg'd 10K. That's a pretty good difference.

For me, the 15 is the better choice and like many other said, you can re-gear for bigger tires, but you can't get those miles back.
