Mine was almost on empty when I tried it out and I bought it from out of town so that was the first thing I asked, 'does it have gas in it' and he replied , yes, full tank ..

Is a tank of gas that big of deal?

I mean if you really want to ask for something that is worth bitching about...ask for grab handles or another acc that your jeep didnt come with.

A tank of gas lasts..what a ....week or so.

Get something that has real value and you use everyday.

If I saved $4500.00 on a jeep I ll pay for the tank of gas.......

That's pretty crappy OP. I've never bought a vehicle, new or used, that didn't come with a full tank of gas.

EVERY new vehicle I've bought has come with a complimentary first tank of gas.

My 2012 Wrangler was the first vehicle I ever bought that had the low fuel light go on as I left the dealer's lot. I went back and asked the salesman if it had been overlooked. He told me gas costs too much these days to give it away and then reminded me to give him 5 stars on DealerRater.com!

Almost every dealer here in Tucson has gone away from giving a full tank gas. If your dealership gave you a full tank of gas, that means you paid for it in the price of the Jeep.

Nothing...let me repeat that....NOTHING is free and dealerships will be the first to tell you that.

What you should be concerned with is the botom line of what your paying for that jeep.

I would rather haggle price and what I am paying in interest over 4 years. If I save myself $1000.00 over the 4 years vs a free tank of gas....sorry I ll take the $1000.00.

My grandfather use to pay .10 for gas........blah blah blah...

Trust me if you answered this question,

"Whats it going to take to get you to buy this jeep."

And you answered " A full tank of gas!"

You got screwed.

Absolutely, but you forgot to mention one thing... they made a nice profit off the additional fuel they added into the tank.

I just picked mine up from the dealership, and she filled the tank for me while waiting on paperwork. Didn't have to ask.

Our 2013 didn't come with a full tank. However, it did come with free lifetime oil and filter changes, so we aren't complaining. Been changing the oil every 1,500 miles thus far and it only costs me whatever gas it takes to drive 4 miles to the service department.

Ya, its that stupid thing called keeping the business profitable to keep people employed.

I dont know if its a generation thing or what but people think they are entilted to "free" things more and more.

You can "vote" with your wallet if you dont like the dealer that only fills the gas tank half way.

If you continue to buy there it really isnt that big of a deal and is only an exscuse to complain on this forum.

With the current gas prices dealerships usually aren't filling tanks. I got 3/4 of a tank in my '14 but my wife has been getting half tanks in her new cars since '04.

Mine was full, and they made a big deal of telling me about it, several times. That's fine. But, as others have said, I'm sure I paid for it somewhere, the old saying about there being no free lunch.

Although somewhat unrelated, I will say that the Toyota dealership here is a really great bunch to work with, both in terms of selling vehicles, and from the standpoint of their service department. I have a Tundra and a year ago I decided I wanted to replace the OEM 26 gallon fuel tank with a 46 gallon TransferFlow tank. They quoted me a price for the tank and the install, I did a bit of research and determined that their price was a fair one, and arranged to have the work done on a given day. Because they were going to be removing the OEM tank, I made sure that it was almost empty and when I took it in I'd guestimate that it had no more than 4-5 gallons on-board. The next day I went in and picked up the truck with the new ginormous tank. I paid the bill which was exactly as quoted, and planned to drive across the street and immediately fill it up to the tune around $200 since my Tundra has a supercharger and, hence, burns only 91+ octane fuel. I pulled up to the pump and then happened to glance at the gauge, and the tank was full. I called the service guy and asked him WTF, and he said that they'd filled it to make sure that the gauge still worked. I asked what I owed for the gas, and he said that it was on them. So basically it worked out that I got the labor on the install for free.

Sorry about the lengthy digression.......back to the regularly scheduled bloviating!

Here's one for you. My new 2014 JKU came in last week to the dealership. The dealership never called me and decided to put it on their showroom floor for some free advertising. I new it was there from the email I received from Jeep status. I asked them why the hell my jeep was on their showroom floor for everyone to climb in and out of!! I should have charged them a daily rate. They refused to take it off the floor until I finished the paperwork. They also tried to off set my tread lightly rebate saying that Chrysler had a price increase while they were building my jeep! After all of that they only had a quarter tank of gas when I drove off with it. A real class act for a dealership in Syracuse, NY

In my experience, it varies by dealer. When I bought my 2012 JK, I was given the customary 5 gallons. At another dealer across town, when I bought my 2013 JKU, they gave me a full tank without any discussion about it.

Is this normal for Jeep, or did I make them mad with my deal at $4500 below MSRP?
The invoice indicating the 5 gallons is the fuel that comes in the JK from the factory.

As for a full tank in the JK at purchase...this is usually something that is from the dealerships expense.

Sounds familiar...I had a bad experience with the dealer I bought my Jeep from the last time I dealt with them but they were the only ones that had a Rubicon equipped how I wanted so I left the 36 gallon tank on my truck I traded in a bit low too.....I had to put in an extra $2 just to make sure I could finish the trip to pick up my new Jeep.

In hindsight I almost feel bad about it because this time they were great to deal with, total change in how they operated this time.

We ordered our Jeep Monday. The owner said not only do I get a full tank of fuel when it comes in, but also they are paying for replacement Track bar bolts to replace those odd sized 11mm full threaded bolts.
I guess it depends on the dealership.

Fail.

Nowhere am I saying that anyone is entitled to free items. Some here believe they are getting a bonus for free when they are not. Every dealer is in business to make a profit and that is fine. Just keep in mind that the 'complimentary bottle of water, full tank of fuel, complimentary oil changes', etc. are all paid for by the buyer.

Look at every dealer's accounts receivable and accounts payable. The promotional items under payable are always covered under receivables, with as much rounding as GAAP allows.

Picking up my JKUR tomorrow morning. Dealer is charging me $50 for fuel, but is providing gas receipt.

I'm ok with this as the explanation made sense to me. Jeep used to reimburse the dealers $1/L for fuel, but with the fluctuating price of fuel dealers were getting screwed (according to the dealer) but it makes sense to me. I don't mind paying for my gas. The dealer did throw in slush mats and a cargo mat because my Jeep was delayed a bit, and I'm already $7802.40 discount, so I wasn't going to quibble about a tank of gas.

When I bought my first Jeep (2010 JK Sahara), it had 5000 miles on it and it had a quarter tank of gas. Kind of surprised me, since all the other vehicles I had previously bought, new or used, I drove off the lot full. Last week, when I was dealing to buy my 2013 JK 10A Rubicon, the salesperson specifically stated a trade-in price + full tank of gas. So I drove off the lot with a full tank, but had paid for it by making sure the one I traded was full too. In a way I won, because the gas up there was lower in price up there by 4 cents and I filled up a block from the dealership.

Thanks for making my point. They guy that complains about NOT getting that "free" tank of gas that hes really PAYING for in all actuality - (in fact your financing that gas - brilliant - ) is not smart enough to just ask for that $50 off the price of the jeep. So to come here and cry about it like your getting ripped off or bad customer service is a joke.

The business model you describe payables coverd under recieveables....uhhh YA thats with any business. All business payables( cost of doing business ) have to be covered by receviables or - guess what -

YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS!

So ya I take that bottle of free water everytime I go to the service bay for that oil change.

I paid for it so I am drinking it.

fail.....whatever...
