Buy now or wait?

I have been thinking of buying a Jeep for sometime. I have the opportunity to buy a new 2008 Sahara. I am happy with the deal. I can't help but wonder, however, will prices drop even lower? Will Jeep and Chrysler survive into 2009? If Chrysler does drop, what will happen to owners of their vehicles?

I know that no one knows what will happen, but anyone care to share their opinion/insight?

If you want it and can afford it, buy it. The economy is dependent on us consumers buying stuff. I doubt the price will get much better and if Jeep goes into bankruptcy there will be funds allocated by the courts to support existing warranties.

theres no way chysler will fall apart and disapear, look at WaMu they are still around even after the government forced them bankrupt and be bought. thats the worst that could happen. go for it but at the end of the month so you can really get the best deal. if its a 08 then you could wait and it could only get cheaper but why wait drive it now.

I'm in the same boat. I've been working on a new 08 2dr Rubicon and the best I have been able to do on a deal so far is $23K for one that has everything except Nav. Been trying to find one without the dual top option but seems like all the Rubicons have the dual top option. I think i'm gonna wait it out awhile longer cause I think the deals are gonna get better. Any thoughts from others???? What are some prices you all are seeing on 2dr Rubicons?????

23K for a loaded Rubi sounds like a rippin deal to me. How much lower do you expect them to drop? When I consider all the options that the Rubicon comes with, it's hard to imagine that they can come down much more and even keep the lights on at the dealership. What do they want for an X (not that you should consider the X, but just to see how much the upgraded axles, TC, tires, etc are costing you)?

Look like we are getting similar deal, B11. I am wanting a Sahara, and percentage wise, we seem to have comparable deals. My only concern is that I can only find one Jeep in my state of Indiana that I want. The good news is that it is the one which I have the best deal.

I'm just a little jittery about buying a large ticket item with the economic mess of everything.

Jeez, that's a flippin good deal on the rubicon. I bought in spring, paid alot more for it.
Grab it and drive it like you stole it!
I agree, if you can afford it, do your part and help keep the economy going!

I have always bought american cars. I think out of the three, chevy may go first. Very sad, I love their trucks but they've kinda slipped and missed the boat when it comes to cars.

I think there is a decent chance they will drop another 2K. It's been interesting dealing on this because now I'm getting to see what they really pay for these things after they get all the kickbacks from the factory. Everytime I get up and walk out, which has always been the best thing I have ever done to get a better deal, they come up with more factory kickback money they will throw into the deal. I'm in a fortunate position on this. I would like to have it but I don't have to have it and I'm not emotionaly attached so I don't have any problem walking away if I think I can do better. There are LOTS of 08 Rubicons still left in my area so I'm in no hurry. One more thing. You know all those extra filling or transfer or whatever costs that they charge you for when buying from a dealership that they tell you there is no way they can take off. Well like we all already know, its BS. Of the 3 that I have sat down on and talked deal/price I told them I would not pay ANY of those fees only Tax and lic. above and beyond the nego. price. They didn't like that idea and at first said they couldn't but its amazing how things change when you get up and walkout. So none of you think I am just being an azz, I'm not. I am always polite and respectful. I don't get mad or yell but i'm out to make the best deal I can. When I was younger I let my emotions dictate bad judgement. Funny how age has and effect on those things and what you see as important versus what really is.

Quit lying to yourself . . . you have to have it and you know it!!! If you are not emotionaly attached to a Jeep Rubicon then you need some couch time to find out what your problem is. The Rubicon is the best damn thing to come out of the factory and your life will be incomplete without one.

Just a note: The factory incentives have probably increased lately from what they were.

You're right I like them alot and want one no doubt about it. But I like my money just alittle better. Now I don't mind trading some of it for one but I just don't wanna have to give them anymore than I absolutely have to. I don't hate car dealers but I do think they have taken advantage of peoples foolish emotional attachment to OUR cars. When the economy was going good and people were buying vehicles like they were going out of style the dealerships hosed people something fierce on their trade ins then would sell them back to "joe consumer" at 6-9K more than they gave you for it. On top of that they allowed you to trade in a vehicle you owed MUCH more for than THEY said it was worth but would allow you to add the difference to your new contract just so they could make the sale. In my opinion that's bad business because it won't be long before they can't sell anyone anything because you are sooo sideways in your current car. It's unfortunate the car business is in the shape that it's in but the dealers played a HUGE role in it's demise.

I don't know if the prices will drop even more, but I do know that the deals that you can get right now are amazing. I got 6 grand off of the MSRP for my jeep. Like everyone else said, if you like it buy it. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. But, with the price of gas now, there has been a lot more people that will buy these jeeps in the past month, so it may be too late to buy it if you wait. But, you will always get the best deals at the end of the month, especially when the end of the month also happens to be the end of the year. Mabye post some pics of the jeep up so someone could tell you what a good deal would be.

If your not planning on going on any hardcore trails, than its not worth the extra money to buy a rubicon. A sahara will still easily handle most offroading trails, and the inside is almost exactly the same on both the sahara and the rubi. For the tayota tacoma, you asked the wrong people. It's a JEEP forum, and you will never hear that the tayota is close to as good as a jeep. It is a nice truck, but jeeps are the way to go.

Oh and about naming a price that you think is fair is never a good idea. I understand that they need to put food on the table as well, but so do you. Whenever a dealer asks me what price I would like, I say "I don't know, YOU give me a price that I would like, and I only like the best price you could give me." There is always some coupon or something that could reduce the price that they aren't telling you about. And this price reduction gets almost completely paid back by Jeep. When I was buying my Jeep, the dealer didn't want to tell me about the 1,000 dollar rebate, no loopholes or scams, untill I already left. 15 minutes later I got a call, but was already at another dealer, which happens to be the dealer of my new Jeep. You'd be amazed at how much money you could save just for walking. This greediness cost him a sale. Business is a tough place. Only the best survive.

A toyota tocoma? Okay, I am old fashioned and there are only three trucks. Rice burner pickups just ain't right and actually, I know some people who have some toyota trucks, the gas mileage sucks.

Now more than ever, buy American!

i have a toyota tundra v8 love the truck wouldnt buy anyting else. as for mileage it depends on the type of driving on the highway i can drive all day and not see the needle move but on the street i used to be like 20 bucks a day but i also drove over 50 miles a day. i would suggest the tundra because how can you have a truck without a v8 its disgusting.
