Buy or Wait...Looking for your opinion

First, I'm new to the site, but not to Jeeps. I've spent a lot of time searching on here and it seems like a very knowledgable community.

Second, this story might be long, if you want to help by giving your opinion, just scroll to the end. Any and all help is appreciated.

When the 2011 Wrangler came out, I decided it was time to get one again (finally). However, I didn't really decide what I wanted until winter time I think it may have been Dec/Jan when I finally picked the build and went in to my dealer asking about a custom build as follows:

Rubi
Detonator Yellow
Half Doors
Manual
Connectivity
430N
Deep Tint
Side Airbags
Trailer Tow

So we went to build it and Yellow was the only color that could not be custom built. CRUSHED. So I walked out and it took me almost 2 months to get back again and decided I'd do the same build in Black. Dealer had nt allotment and couldn't order it. He said about month and we should be good to go. I emailed a few times and never heard back.

Being somewhat upset that a) I didn't get the Yellow b) no one was willing to get me what I wanted even though I was a customer ready to spend money, I went after Chrysler corporate. Didn't take long. They pointed me to a Rubi in yellow that had a lot of what I wanted but not everything. And definitely no Half doors. They told me I could order the half doors for the dealer. I'm sure those will be 2000+, but they may help out there.
So now I have to decide, get the 11, or wait for the 12. I am excited about the new engine, and I'm thinking in august I could custom order exactly what I want (which this time around may not include any audio upgrades and I may go aftermarket, different story though). But, I could get Yellow now, with most of what I wanted, not knowing if Yellow will exist on the 12, plus have extra doors at a discount potentially (and with the NJ winters that might not be bad).

Anyway, I know it's a personal decision, but what would you do? Will the 12 be worth the wait? Do we know if Yellow will be back again? Thanks for your help.

At this point, I would wait. If you find you don't like the '12, you should be able to find a good deal on an '11. Also, I would find another dealer. The one that did not return emails, will probably not be too responsive once their have your money, either. IMO

Thanks Jeepers. I'm definitely finding another dealer. There are plenty within a reasonable distance of me.

Good point on finding deals, afte the '12 is announced/comes out.

Welcome Rugby. THis is a good forum with lots of help. Order what you want and don't settle for what's on the lot. And I would wait for the 2012 model.

Thanks dherickson. I think somewhere deep inside I know I should wait. The thing that's probably got me jumpy is that it's May. It's almost time to start heading down the shore here in NJ! And there is no better ride to have down the shore than a wrangler with the doors off. I haven't been able to do that for a while (4 kids). But now they're getting older and can come for rides with me in the wrangler (not all at once obviously that's what the suburban is for). But this needs to be a longer term choice than just this summer.

I look forward to spending a lot of time on here.

I would wait. Fuel consumption of 2011 is bad.

I too am in your dilemma. I want a new Rubi soooo bad right now, but really like the potential of the Pentastar engine. I have found several that meet my criteria but am afraid I will regret buying now when the 2012s come out. (Why can't Chrysler just do a 2011 and a half model with the new engine now?) I think I am going to wait and not settle for anything less than what I really want. I would suggest you do the same. Of course, if they do something like "employee pricing" or 0% financing or some other "knock your socks off" deals, I may move on a 2011. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one going through this right now!! Like they say "misery loves company"!! LOL

I'm definitely going to a new dealer, no doubt about that.

HA! Parkfan. I'm thinking the same. Going to wait, but I'm my own worst enemy. I have the itch, and if I get an unreal deal, I may back down. I even went to two different dealers today and just browsed. There were 14 8 year old girls in the house, so I made a run for it and took the bys to look at Jeeps. Great way to kill time and I love having closed dealerships on Sundays, no pressure.

What's amazing to me, is that right now, nationwide, the percentage of 2-Door Jeeps on dealer lots with half doors is about 0.5%. Less than 1%? WOW

^^LOL, I like the way you phrased that ("my own worst enemy"). I am the same. The advantage for me is that the nearest Jeep dealer, at least one with any stock, is about 240 miles away (yeah, I'm pretty rural). Not like I can easily just get in the car and go browse!! You do seem to have a more defined vision of what you want than I do. I like the looks of the half doors, but that's not a deal maker or breaker for me!! Here's to writing a big, fat deposit check on a 2012 Rubi (the sooner the better)!!

Wow! 240 miles. There are more than 260 dealerships within 200 miles of me.

At this point, it's a no brainer to wait for the 2012's.

Agree. I'm there. I've convinced myself I'll make it through summer without. But it seems so far away.

Wait. I had an 07 rubi and an 08 sport. I have a 2001 TJ now. There was such a lack of power. Wait for the extra ponies and mpg for the same $$. It almost seems like a no brainer. The toughest part would be the wait with summer coming

I'm in the same bout as you folks. I plan to wait for the 2012. Pentastar engine seems to be worth the wait. I guess if I waited 12 years to get back into a Jeep, a few more months can't hurt (too bad).

I also noticed the lack of 1/2 doors. I think there should be more 1/2s on the lot w/ the full door as an option. In my opinion if you want a full door Wrangler buy an old Cherokee - no offense to full door folks.

Thanks Detonator Canuck. Nice Unlimited. That's a ton of Yellow.

I've found each of those and then some, just not finding the complete package. At this point, I'm waiting for the 2012. At least to see what it's available and color choices. Hopefully Yellow is back, and not as a special paint, but as a color they use all year.

Having way too much fun in mine right now to care about a pentastar. If you sit around waiting for the next best thing, you never get it. The new 7 speed transmission comes out in 2013. Suppose to be awesome. My 3.8 does absolutely great

I agree, you can get into the trap of waiting for the next best thing forever. However, I was ready to pull the trigger this model year until they discontinued Yellow and I couldn't get exactly what I wanted. Looking back I found an awesome one, just with Full Doors instead of Half. Should have done it and bought half aftermarket.

But at this point, I'm willing to wait and either buy a 2012 custom build in the first run or decide I still want the '11 and get it at a discount.
