Buying A New Jeep!

Well, I'm finally in the position to go look at Jeeps. I want a Wrangler Unlimited Sport. I'm really liking the gecko green and crush orange. Great colors if you ask me!

I'm just not sure "what" all I should be looking for on this new beast? Some trails and mostly beach is in store for her.

Yes I like the 6 speed manual and "the boss" says she wants AC so if she has to drive it to work, she's not a mess when she gets there. (There is NO WAY I'm letting my sister-in-law to drive it...NO WAY!!!)

Anyway, I want the 3:73's for the money. I'll eventually get a lift and larger tires. I don't need navigation...not going to be the daily driver vehicle. We want fun really!

I'm not sure what that "freedom top" is all about or even if it is necessary. We don't live in a high crime area (thank goodness) and the Jeep will be kept in the garage when not being used.

I'm open for any suggestions .... please. This would be our very first Jeep and since I've been watching them on CraigsList and SleazeBay, I notice that the pricing for some of the older ones even far exceed the cost of a new! Hence...lets go for new!

Well, what would you suggest to look for? I'm heading there tomorrow!

Thanks,

Thom

I would say definitely get the 3:73 which will be helpful when you get larger tires which most seem to upgrade sooner or later.

Also based on several (not all) bad head issues the most important thing is to make sure the jeep you buy has the most recent production date as possible (2012) as the jeeps that have reported bad heads have been 2011 productions for the most part.

This is not a proven fact but knowing what I have read.. I would go for a 2012 or newer.

The convince package is nice and worth the upgrade. As for the freedom top, it's just a 3 piece hardtop. I recommend getting the hard top and buying an aftermarket soft top like the trektop NX.

That's what I did. Also as a general rule if buying new you should be able to get at least 11% off of sticker +ttl (I did)

Definitely the 3.73 gears which is more common with the max tow package. May want to consider getting the soft top if it's not a daily driver. That way it will be easier to remove and you can take it off anywhere.

If you get the hard top, you need two men minimum to take it off. You also have to have somewhere to store it. For this reason, I have only had my full hard top off twice since October because my wife can't help me take it off. So the only time I can get the rear off is when I go wheeling with a group and can leave it at camp.

You can take the front top off easily by yourself though.

Other than that, yeah, get the AC and power windows if you want them.

Also try to get one with the limited slip rear differential. I think this is also standard with the max tow. It's an inexpensive option and helps off road or in bad weather.

No tread lightly is only 1% under dealer invoice which only runs about 1000-1500 under sticker price. The manufacture set this program up so they appear to give a good deal but they hold all the cards ( or invoice sheets). It's all the back side money the give to dealers that is the real profit for them. So knowing this (my dad was a new car salesmen for Chrysler) and what ther dealers have been and can move a car for we came up with the 11% off sticker. Now keep in mind you need to go in during the last 5-7 days of the month when their trying to get the extra sale to boost the money per unit they get for that month.

I respectfully suggest getting the 23S package on a Sport. It includes power windows and locks. There are two ways to get the 3.73 axle ratio. The dealer can order it separately or if the dealer ordered the Jeep with the Max Tow Package, it includes 3.73s.
