Buying a new jeep need help with which one to get!

So i have a 2011 Ford Mustang GT which i love, fast as hell and very easy on the eyes.

In 2010 i bought a brand new 2010 Jeep Mountain Edition with hard top 5 spd ect ect...

It was the 2 door and i got a job promotion that made me travel (driving) so i had to trade it for something more efficient, i traded for a Volkswagen GTI(awesome little car) well about a year later i get a 2nd promotion allowing me to stay home lol so i traded the GTI for my current mustang.

Well now im moving to a large city, lots of traffic and not a lot of open road to go fast, i checked my car insurance and i can save a ton by trading for a Jeep.

So in summary, i dont HAVE to trade but im considering it.

Here's where my problem is:

I am looking at a 2011 Mojave Edition 4-door 5 speed with max tow package pwr windows and locks and both tops. It looks awesome, has everything i loved about the mountain plus more. I am having a hard time getting past the fact that the 11 engine had 80 HP and 20+ TQ less than the 2012.

I am also looking at a 2012 unlimited sport 5 speed with connectivity package pwr windows and locks and max tow package but only comes with the hard top and multi purpose tires.

My delima is: I really love the off road look, i cant say i will do a ton of mudding or anything but its not out of the question so i love the big tires on the mojave, i also love the leather in the mojave but im having a hard time getting past the lack of engine power compared to the other jeep im looking at.

Which one would you go with and why?

Mojave is 28900(ish)
2012 Unlimited is 28500(ish)

You answered your own question.
Though I could tell a difference between my '10 and a '12 I drove, I much preferred the color, special edition details, dual top, etc. I got in my '10 Islander. Besides, to really feel the power, you have to drive in higher RPMs, which I almost never do.

The ONLY thing I might have done differently would have been to save a year's worth of payments and special ordered a Moab or 10A in the perfect color, etc. But then I would have missed out on a year of driving my Jeep!

the older I get, the less I care about "going faster" etc.

Absent actual HP/torque needs of towing/extreme off road, etc, I've never actually found real advantage in the 'more HP' camp.

Decades ago I drove a LOT in the WAY outback of Idaho....long stretches of virtually empty roadway. I managed to acquire a 1956 VW bug that even then was an antique.....and ran at 26HP down the road!!!

It got me everywhere. And I found no matter how slow I thought I was, there was always somebody I'd end up passing.

Up until my mid-30s I was preoccupied with that extra HP stuff, as my various sports cars essentially HAD to have all that desired HP. Not really sure it made any improvement in any part of my life, various pleasures may well have simply been ability to put the top down and drive about in the sun and the breeze.

Excruciating choices we all face, but HP decisions are no less personal than 'what color' or 'manual vs auto'. Good luck, photos or it didn't happen.

I appreciate the input fellas,

Im use to my 412 HP Mustang lol, i am headed to test drive an 11 sport unlimited and a 12 sport unlimited today to see the difference myself. Its less about going fast and more about ease of driving imo plus that extra tq and HP can help me with my occasional towing (family boat) and if i ever decide to take it on an easy trail or something im sure the extra power would help

The other factor is warranty, i like the peace of mind of having 10+ more months with the 12 than the 11... Ah why does this have to be hard!

Im leaning Mojave but who knows.

Not sure what you meant by 5 speeds in the 2010 and 2011. They came with either 4 speed autos, or 6 speed sticks. The 5 speed (auto's) starting in 2012.

Honestly, you are talking about two different worlds. Since this is a Wrangler forum, we will all tell you to get the Wrangler....but this is really up to you.

The Mojave's are sweet, but the 3.8 coupled with the 4 speed auto was a bad combo.

If you want to go fast(ish), you should look for a 2012 or 2013....and if you want brown leather, get a Sahara or Rubi with saddle leather. But honestly, no one gets a Wrangler to go fast...because they are rolling bricks.

If you don't plan on doing much off-roading, but still want brown leather, you can look at a Sahara (to save some cash). If you don't need brown leather, you can save even more cash by grabbing a Sport S.

Good luck!

You should get the 2012 because it has the pentastar. less weight, better mpg, faster. It's a big jump in technology that you don't want to pass up. Just make sure it doesn't have the broken cylinder head part numbers.

I'll muddy the waters and offer my two cents. The only thing I felt I had to get right was gearing. But, I knew I was going to lift it. Beyond that, I went with the
Sport and have been modding to suit my tastes ever since.

When comparing be sure to check which rear end gearing is in place
World of difference between the 3:21 and the 3:73...4:10 only on the Rubicon
Butt dyno states the 3:21 with the new 3.6 motor is about same as 3:73 with the 3.8 motor

Oh, and Jeeps have the drag coefficient of Mount Everest. Power mods are for torque...

I've yet to see a thread where people are reliably getting the MPG the Pentastar claims. In fact, I'm getting better mileage with my 3.8, 20 reliably (70/30 highway/city), then many people with the 3.6. I agree the 4-speed tranny is the weak link, though.

I read this here the other day and I agree with my Jeep I almost enjoy going a bit slower and enjoying the drive.

Sorry if i gave the wrong impression,

I meant 6 speed im not at all interested in the automatics.

As for speed im not concerned with going fast, in my post i mentioned im selling my 11 mustang GT so if speed was my concern i wouldnt be selling it. The problem im having with the 11 wranglers vs the 12 is the power difference the extra power and tq are very appealing to me because i do occasionally pull a small ski boat or jet ski or small trailer, i also have interest in doing some trails later (nothing hard though)

Anyway tonight i test drove a 2010 sahara with the 3.8 and a 2012 sahara with the 3.6, while i did feel a difference it wasnt a ton and they were both manuals. Anyway intersting thing happend after driving the 12 sahara, when explaining it was a tad out of my price range (they were asking 35 i told them its worth 33) he asked what i was looking to spend and i told him around 28-29k he said they may be able to do that so im headed back tomorrow with my stang (it was raining today so she stayed home) to see what kind of deal we can strike

Its a 12 sahara unlimited hard top 6 speed with nav and black leather interior 22k miles, if i can get them to around 28.5k ill be in a new jeep tomorrow, if not i may opt for the 11 mojave.

But yeah not interested in speed just tq mainly for trails and hauling and no autos for me.

Alright so before i go back i wanted some input:

i am going to squeeze them for some tires since the ones on the sahara are a bit worn out.

I want the Duratrac LT275/70R18 they are at 11" so after all the reading ive done i know they will prlly rub at full turn so i will get some spacers later, at any rate... Any suggestions on other tires?

Wide open tire choices....I'm one of the "LIKE my 18s" fans here.

My 08JK wears Kelly KTS 275/65-R18s with no spacers needed (no lift installed either). I *did* have to adjust the front bump stop about 1/4" turn to keep from rubbing on extreme far L/R turns. There has been -zero- rubbing either front or rear in any road/off road situation I've been.

You can buy a brand new '13 Sport 6 speed well equipped
for 28.5 "ish" all day long or Sahara even for way less than what he's trying to sell you . Do your homework, and my apologies to the salesman who's settin' you up for a "deal"

I havent found any sahara unlimited with nav and leather for less than 33ish on auto trader (2012) and the new ones run 37ish anyway he didnt come CLOSE to the deal he claimed he could make (one of those sleezy manipulative dealerships i guess) so i didnt trade today. Im going tomorrow to let 1 last dealership take a shot before i call and buy the Mojave Edition but man i wish i could find what i wanted with the Penstar engine.

Btw what kind of wheels are on your Jeep?
