Buying add ons for my first Jeep

Hey All,

New guy here, this forum has been awesome at educating me on many things wrangler and ultimately helped me with my purchase of a new 2012 JK Sport - Sahara Tan with the S package about 2 weeks ago. So I'm about to buy a few things and wanted to put this out to the forum for some advice.

My buy list (things I am about to buy)

Mopar sill guards - black
Ace rock sliders - better looking than the mopar tubular side steps I thought
Weathertech floor mats - black (front and rear side)
Mopar Fuel filler door - black

Side note, tried putting back my softop by myself a few days ago for the first time. Those clips... lol had to grab a buddy to help me with that one. Is there a better way of doing that by yourself?

Well, I should be getting my Sahara in a few weeks, and all of these are also on my list, so I think you're doing pretty good.

Hah, I'm up to 2k in my upgrade shopping list so far without any major items and I probably won't get my JK until June!

Are you working within a specific budget? And are there any specific purpose upgrades you are after?

I agree on the ? about budget... but would also be interested in what your end game is. You going for look or function? if you are wheeling, there are other mods as important as the sliders, and much more important than a filler door

Realistically I have about another 500 to spend initially at least. I am in the swamps down here in Florida so won't be doing a lot of offroading unfortunately. Mine will be more of a beach crawler, so I'm going primarily for looks (but still want good quality mods on there). What do you all think? My theme is black and tan, all black mods on the Sahara tan base.

With you being new to Jeeps it might be fun to take the cash and go somewhere with a group to offroad your rig stock. I can guarantee it will amaze you and as you get more used to what you like in the way of wheelin (mud, rocks, trails, big hills, mall crawler) you will have a much better idea of what mods you want.

Here's an idea, one of the very first things I did to mine. And cheap.

A stubby black antenna to replace the fencing tool that comes on the stock Wrangler.

Link to Antenna X (forum vendor, you can just PM em at Antenna_X):

The Antenna Xperts

Tons of peeps have done this mod. Behold:

Replace stock antenna...

Also, how about some grab handles?

grab handle recommendations?

Or seat covers. Come in waterproof neoprene (but those get hot), spacer mesh (which I've got), all sorts of colors, some work with side airbags, etc. Getting to the end of your remaining budget, though...

'12s come with 4 grab handles. If you need more, check out some of the folks that make paracord grab handles. They serve multiple purposes, grab handle / source of paracord if you need a stong, light weight rope in the wilderness. Most of the folks I have seen that do this are x miliatry or EMTs trying to make a few bucks on the side.

Depending on if you will eventually get a Go Pro, you may want to spend a couple of bucks on a video mount for your windshield. Share cool movies with friends and family. Check out Amazon.

Do you by any chance, have a photo of one of your seats, kbwwolf?

Just bought excited, I hated the stock antenna but didn't think to prioritize its removal until I saw the price! As for seat covers I will have a look at those, if you have a pic of yours would also like seeing yours. Grab handles are a good idea, will need those as well. Thanks.

My sport s didn't come with grab handles, probably because it wasn't a rubi or sahara. Will look on the forum for good ones.

Ordered up my ace rock rails a few days ago, and found a buddy with a grinder for the washer on install. Stoked about putting those up on my rig! Going to look sick. Thanks for advice all.
