buying first Jeep tomorrow. A couple of questions before signing

Hey all,

I'm hopefully getting my first Jeep tomorrow. I am getting a 2010 Sahara Unlimited, soft-top. The vehicle has the indash NAV/DVD/MP3 player.

With that said, my questions are below:

1) Is the soft-top much louder then the hardtop in regards to road noise, when the roof is up?

2) Does the dealer installed NAV/DVD player, play DVD's? Not sure why it would be labeled with DVD if it doesn't, but surprisingly can't find anything on the Jeep website that says. If it does, I'm assuming it won't play unless the vehicle is not in motion.

3) With stock tires, what kind of mileage range can I expect? 300 or so?

4) I'm pretty sure the above referenced stereo can be used as a speakerphone via bluetooth but does the stereo support A2DP and allow the playing of music WITHOUT the audio cable?

5) How many power ports in the jeep, I forgot to look today.

6) And (hopefully) finally, how's the Sahara on road trips? The family and I take little days trips a few times of year so how comfortable is the Jeep on those trips?

Thanks all,

David

2.) if u are geting the softtop and its a 2010 its not going be loud at all. if you have been in a older jeep and are worried about that "beating" noise you wont hear that bearly.

4.) you need the cable to hook up the mp3

any more questions mesage me

you'll be missing the Jeep "experience" if there's no wind noise...

Thanks blue...............

My only experience with the Jeep was a 2dr softtop last summer. It had the halfdoors and only a 4cyl. It was loud!

Oh I'll have the top down ALOT. Plus I get plenty of wind noise on my Harley But when it's up, I want a little quiet.

Hardtop is definitely quieter but not massively so.
Road trips are fine but the back seat is a bit bench-like for some. Quite a bit of cargo space in the rear.

I have the 2 door X soft top, 3.8, at 75mph on the freeway, I can hold a conversation with no trouble at all.

3) With stock tires, what kind of mileage range can I expect? 300 or so?

I have the 17's and around town I get about 220ish then the low fuel light comes on.

I have changed my tires and wheels, when I first bought the Jeep I was good for 300 miles before the low fuel, now that I have over 9,000 miles I am good for 350-60 before the light. This is with a daily commute of 55 RT, approx 40 miles on the freeway.
5) How many power ports in the jeep, I forgot to look today

It is OK, can be a little firm after a while. PS Noise is OK level afterall it is a Jeep, not a Luxury car.

My six year old is in a booster seat for a couple of more years so the backseat being bench like shouldn't be of an issue. <G> At least until he wants to make my car payment. Until then he doesn't have a say.

We have an '09 with the dual top option. The soft top is noticably louder than the hard top, but not dramatically so. The biggest drawback of the soft top so far is the lack of rain gutters over the doors. When it rains, you are going to get a bit wet getting in and out but it's not a big deal.

For your audio/DVD questions, insist that the dealer show you how everything works or let you sit with the owner's manual and try it out yourself. And keep in mind you can always buy the basic system and replace it with an aftermarket that does exactly what you want.

I have the DVD player. It plays DVD videos...when the jeep is stopped. The sound that accompanies the video is boss. We have used it several times for entertainment while camping on long visits to places. I love the thing. I like the NAV also. Not the greatest but gets the job done. No major complaints about it.

glad you mentioned that you have the dual top.... so when you have your hardtop on, you have the soft one rolled up in the back where its 'permanently' bolted in, correct? have you ever needed to unbolt the soft top from its position back there?

this is what i plan on getting but dont like the fact it sits across the back there like that.. i know there are going to be times when it gets in the way...

I can provide some input on the stereo. The cabled MP3 works great, there is a $600 dollar option that allows you to go Bluetooth and hand free with your cell phone. It also comes with an IPOD direct interface. The speakers in my opinion stink. However the Kicker speakers MOPAR sells for the JK are only $80 a pair and are great speakers, the bass is several times stronger then the stock ones and they bolt and hook up to your stock mounts and cables.

Don’t buy the extended warranty if you are planning on lifting or modifying your drive train, both void the extended warranties.

It will be nice to see another Jeep on the Ft. Worth roads. Be sure to wave. I love my soft top and don't find it too noisy. I think it's perfect!

Well guys I got it! She sure is pretty. Too bad I'm about to have to go to work or I'd get some photo's up. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to.

I saw that NAV/Radio has a USB port but surprised to learn one cannot play music directly from the "thumb drive". It has to be imported first to the hard drive.

@kattzoo - Which part of FTW u live in? I'm up in North Fort Worth.

The soft top should be completely removed when the hard top is on.

The soft has to be removed before the hardtop goes on.

Yeah, what they said. If you leave the soft top in place for any length of time with the hard top on, the owner's manual says that it will be damaged. Anyhow, it take about 5 minutes to remove the soft top once you are used to it.

I bought an '10 yesterday with the hard top but I tested the soft top too. The soft top on the '10 was quieter than the hard top on my '89. But in the end I couldn't resist the hard top for all around use and being able to do the different panels on and off of the Freedom Top.
