Buying my first Jeep!! Advice please

Hey everybody,

I am new to this forum and new to Jeep Wranglers. I have always loved them since I was a child and I am preparing to buy my first one in a couple days. I am going to buy a used 2009 JK Unlimited:

Cars for Sale: 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 Unlimited X in Marysville, OH 43040: Sport Utility Details - 270391150 - AutoTrader.com

Can you please look at the link, and tell me how much I should actually bargain down for. Its list price is close to 32000, and I just want to know what price I can bring the jeep down to, considering the aftermarket wheels, and tires. Thanks, and I am excited to be part of your community.

It is basically brand new with 3000 miles, but I am thinking about bargaining with the dealer, do you think I can bring it down to 25000, with a down payment of 20000?

I'm up in Canada where things are generally more expensive and my new Sahara just cost me approx $32k and came with dual top and tow package. Unless the lift kit and the tires are things you would pay for anyway then it seems pricey.

But then again, I'm in Canada and not too familiar with US pricing

Sorry, since it's not a Rubicon, it's priced 5K too high--

I'd look for a 2010, the prices on them should start dropping real soon

if it had a previous owner, it's not new, regardless of what the dealer tries to convince you of otherwise. it's obscene the price they ask for stuff like this. you know they beat the previous owner up on the trade in, saying something like "it's still a used car". then to turn around and ask almost new price. they didn't give the previous owner one cent for the wheels and tires, but they'll try to ask for more money because of them. or the "well, we can only give you auction price...." ok, then i'm paying auction price for what i'm buying.

used cars is one of the worst rackets going. i'd look at a new 2010, that's what i'm doing. they'll be going with nice discounts once the 2011 hits the lots. make sure you mention "well, the 2011 interior is much nicer, maybe i should wait...."

Nice Jeep, but the price is too high. They are charging you for everything the previous owner put on. Which is a joke, if you bought the vehicle today for that price and brought it back tomorrow, it would be no where near that.

I personally think you should buy a new jeep and build it up yourself, that is half the enjoyment " other half is driving it..lol"

As JIMBOX mentioned, you could get a Rubi for that price. They even have a model called the MOUNTAIN, which has the bigger tires , kinda a wana be RUbi without all the lockers and stuff, I have seen the 4 door mountains go for $30,0000

Good luck either way.

There are waaaay better ones on the page that one came from. As mentioned above they are charging out out the butt for lift and tires.... Buy one with several thousand miles on it, and lift it yourself and save the $.... Or join Tread Lightly - Home and get a new one for 1% below invoice....

This price looks way high. I found a 2010 black Sport with a hardtop in Atlanta for $24,500. Add $3,000 for Lift, Wheels & Tires and you will have a new 2010 with warranty and $3,000 plus in your pocket I Ended up buying a Red 2010 Rubicon for $30,800 plus I got the $500 Mopar bucks. I would keep looking JMO!

"Why would anyone put that kind of money in a new Jeep and sell it?" That is what you need to ask. I would walk away from it if I was you.

I just bought a very similar Jeep 3 weeks ago for 24,500. It had 18k miles on it. I had dealer installed 2.5" lift, 33" tires and nice Cepek rims. Seems really steep. If it's based on mileage, I'd offer no more than 26k and walk away.

OK, Thanks guys, I am going out to look at it tonight, and see how it is. Not going to offer more than 25000. Another quick question, do you think I should wait for the 2011s to come out, cause I heard there is a new Pentastar engine or some updated engine coming out. Thanks again for the advice.

The 2011 DOES NOT have a new engine, just a new interior.

I don't think the new engine is coming out in the 11's. I did see an updated interior that looked pretty cool.

Good luck on the negotiations on the rig.

Pentastar will be on the '12s. Even then I would wait a couple of years to get all the kinks out before I got the new engine. Given the price as noted, I would also say go for a 2010 which would give you better financing, a little rebate money, more warranty and peace of mind that you aren't driving something that somebody else jacked around with.

Something does not smell right about that thing to me. Tires, lift
bumpers and windshield decal that would indicate it would off roaded
hard and only has 3k miles? I wonder if they did a gear change?

Look it over real good, underneath it and under the carpet and dash.
Test drive it well and listen for missing and any unusual noises.

Make the dealer give you the car fax. It shows it has 11 entries and
that seems strange for a vehicle with only 3k miles.

Same here and we could not be happier. We also bought the 7 year warranty. Mopar bucks was a nice kicker we didnt even know about.

I just came back from the dealer, and he is not changing the price, or giving me any specific details about the wrangler, I guess I will keep looking, or buy a 2010 when the 2011s come out. Thanks everyone for the help, and I am proud to be part of this community.

Help, I am working with a local dealer trying to locate the exact Sahara I want, I have a tire size question, what are people running on 18inch rims that come with the Sahara's ??? seems like most MFG's do not make a off-road tire for this size. Has anyone changed or had a dealer put 17" rims on them ???
