Buying the RE 2.5" lift

Alright so im settled on the Rubicon Express 2.5" lift with the monotube shocks. Ive been scratching my head wondering between this kit and the teraflex for ages now. So i finally called each of them and simply said why is yours better. And rubicon express sold me. Their shocks are just re labeled bilstein 5100's specially tuned for their springs. Which ive heard great things about. Along with that their headquarters is an hour away from the rubicon trail, where they test their products. Although i love teraflexs informative videos and customer service. The RE kit just spoke to me, and the salesman really made the deal. Will be ordering as soon as i get paid!

congrats...i talked to a rep during the recent 4wp jeep fest in Ontario, CA. i talked to many reps that day and RE was the last rep i talked to. i purchased a different brand at the end of the day...however the next day, i called 4wp and switched to RE 2.5.

they kind of rushed in the jk market once the jk came out and in the past, the bushings were bad and they had a lot of complaints which they fixed.

the company filed chapter 11 and 4wp bought em recently.

all parts are made in the usa, and yes...the re mono's are tuned, repainted bilsteins.

I have the 4.5" long arm kit on the missus rig and a 3.5" standard lift on mine. Bought well before the buy-out. They will stay at the top of my list until proven otherwise.

once mine comes in and gets installed, i'll post a thorough review (in a week or two). so far, i'm liking what i see in terms of price, upgradability, and the tuned bilsteins.

the rep i talked to didn't have an ego, wasn't distracted even when his phone was ringing, and he even talked about the extra's in the kit for my jeep without having to go into his book.

Awesome. Yea i got the same impression. Very cool and not trying to push or boast. Looking really forward to this. The only thing im worried about is gonna be the install, i dont have a lift lol or a garage for that matter

i'm still debating on the install. the kit w/ monotube shocks was 699 but i get 10% off that. my total otd w/ install and alignment is 1201.00. they didn't itemize it bcuz it was over the phone...i had to call the following day to change my initial purchase.

i'm gonna call em up after work since this got me questioning the install price. i'm suppose to get 25% off install.

Enjoying my 2.5" RE lift since march. I've decided to install brake Line extensions, but they're not necessarily required. I just don't like the thought of the stock lines (rear specifically) being maxed out upon flexing. Rides great. No issues yet

What kind of extensions did u buy? I was concerned about this as well but other kits don't have extended brake lines too so I'm confused. And did u do the exhaust spacer?

Screw their install price. i decided to do it myself with a couple of friends and save myself a lot of money. plus, when in doubt...forum members are here to answer any of my questions throughout the process.

I just installed a RE kit with the monotubes on Sunday. I'm really liking the way it rides. It's as comfortable or more than the stock suspension.

In the rear, I relocated the mount for the hard line to give me a little more flex. In the front, I had taken out the axle to weld on the Artec truss kit so when I reconnected the brake lines and ABS wires, I routed them just a little differently. I zip tied them low on the coil rather than reattaching the bracket to the axle. That should give me the flexibility I need.

I also installed some JKS quicker disconnects for the sway bar on the front. The RE kit comes with new rear links and has you reuse the rear links on the front (when you look at the links you'll understand why) and that would have worked fine but I wanted an easier disconnect on the front.

Do I need to do anything with the front/rear brake lines? Will it cause problems under full flex?

It doesn't hurt to give yourself a little more flexibility. I'm not sure if it's absolutely needed or not but why not do something to prevent problems?

In the rear, the hard line is attached to the frame. I just unscrewed that mount, hammered the tab flat, popped a hole lower in the frame and screwed the mount into that hole with a self tapping screw.

In the front I unbolted the hard mount from the axle and zip tied it to the coil.

I don't know if I'll have enough time to get pictures tonight but I can maybe post up something tomorrow.

We had 4 people completely remove both axles, weld an axle truss to the front axle, change the rear gears (to match the change that we did in the front the previous weekend) and install the RE lift kit in one day.

It really isn't all that hard to get done quickly. 2 people can get it done in a couple of hours. Just make sure you read the directions and have everything you need to get it done ahead of time.

tabb22092, i just checked out ur profile and since your in NY, u can contact forum member "matador". he has a lot of buddies in the area and maybe can help with your install. you can also post a thread in your local area asking for help on lift installs.

i'm gonna try to tackle it at a family members house. 4wp is charging me way too much. 550 for install/alignment and thats with 25% off already!!!!

I managed to get some pictures snapped. Here's what I did to extend the brake lines.

For the front, I unbolted the mounting bracket that attaches to the side of the spring mount. I zip tied it to the coil a couple of turns up:

For the rear, I unbolted the hard mount on the frame, hammered the tab flat and put in a self tapping screw an inch or two lower on the frame.

Also, on the passenger side, I had to cut out an access hole to get to the top shock nut.

hey guys, I'm not planning to upgrade to 35's anytime soon and I'm sticking with my current 285/70/17s. Do I still need to install the front/rear bumpstops or will I be ok under full flex?

You should be OK. Getting the rear bump stops on after the fact isn't hard. Doing the fronts later will probably require that you pull the springs, set the bump stop in place with the spring and putting them in together. But that's no different than doing them that way in the first place.
