Bypass factory fog light relay unit. 2008 rubicon

HI all, does anyone know how to bypass the relay switch for the fog light on a 2008? So that when I'm in the bush with high beams on I can turn the fog lights on as well.

2008 rubicon

Thanks for any help

Tom

Hey Tom, I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, because this is my standard answer to this question...the fogs are not the solution for better lighting. The headlights on JK's are crappy and need to be replaced with a new harness and lens.

Many of us JK'ers have done this and the results are incredible. Keep your fogs available for fog and such, get better headlights and if you need more...aux. lights are the way to go...

Here's a link to good headlights....Susquehanna MotorSports - High Performance Vehicle Lighting and Competition Accessories
Call these guys..^^ and tell them you want the JK lighting upgrade, about $215, and upgrade to the Phillips +80's bulbs. You will get credit for the "kit" bulbs. This is one of the best "mods" that you can do for lighting...do a search on this and you will see, everyone that's done it is amazed at the improvement.

Otherwise, get some good aux. lighting and keep the fogs for what they were intended for....hope this helps...

Here's a great thread, done by "The Man" when it comes to this sort of comparison....Headlight Shootout - JeepForum.com

Hilldweller has used/tested many lighting configurations, this thread should give you a good start.....

I think the best bang for your buck is the H-4 upgrade and good aux. lighting for what your driving needs are. You can get plenty of advice here for aux. lights too....

What are your lighting needs?

Thanks, most of my driving is city and highway. Hence why I was looking for a quick fix for the bush driving when needed. I would be willing to throw up to 400 for really good headlights.

The Hellas that come from rallylights.com are perfect for you then. You always can try a bulb upgrade, but the gains are minimal because of the factory lens/electrical system..

The hella lamps aren't too bad, ours come stock with them down here. Stick some +50 or +80 globes in and your set. I have +50's in mine.

In addition our fogs lights can also remain on with the high beam!

Ya, onces I get back into country next month it will be game on for upgrades..lol. In regards to the fog light, up here they turn off when h/beam activate. Either way, with or without the upgraded lights I want to try and make them remain on when with the high beams.

So I put in the Piaa h13. Pretty happy with the clear white that come out from them. But you guys are right, a little pricy for the gain. Lol

Anyone figure out a way to bypass the relay for the fog light? .

Still wanna try the bypass.

Thomas.

I heard on the TJ's you can cut one of the three prongs that plug into your fogs and it removes that interlock. I have not looked into weather the same can be done on JKs

Get a friend at a Chrysler Dealership to re-program your lights for non-US vehicles so the computer allows you to have the fogs on for low and high?

I went to the dealership and they would not do it because of liability. I even said I would sign a waiver.

I then went to the US dealership. And they told me they couldn't do it because my vehicle was Canadian. And that it would have to be a registered US vehicle for them to turn it off. Errrr

All this and I was even willing to pay for the service.

I think my only option at this point because surfing online really hasn't helped. I'm probably going to look at the relay system. I really don't want to run a bypass toggle switch to bypass everything. Was looking to us factory switch.

Keep me in mind if you guys ever hear of anything.

That's why I said you need to have a "friend" at the dealership.

So Canada is like the US where you can't have the fogs and highs on at the same time when you are on a road?

Im guessing you want the fogs and highs on the same time when you are off-road to get a little more light on obstacles, right? I would use them too - like my off-road lights that I only use when Im wheeling.

Maybe some day a company will sell an advanced programmer that lets you make the setting?

Yeah we cannot have both on at the same time.

There is no doubt that I will be getting trail lights later on but I would really like to have that option now for the fog lights. Lol

Thanks for your input.
