I was driving on the freeway today at about 70 mpg, no traffic but there was a slight head wind. On several occasions I was concerned that my hood was going to fly up and over the top of the Jeep. I stopped to check on the latches and they appeared to be fine. However, several times the wind actually lifted the hood up to the point I was concerned. You know how when you pass a large truck it moves you over? It was a similar type of feeling watching the hood try to lift off. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Is it common or should I have it checked further?
Earlier in this thread I said my '12 didn't flutter. But I took a couple 200 mile drives last weekend on the interstate, and at 75 mph with a 30 mph headwind the hood fluttered in the 40+ mph gusts. So, I stand corrected. At least its not as bad as the '09 was. But I think the 'dogbones' probably just lose elasticity with time, and it gets worse. Think I'll wait for it to get worse, then replace them with the daystar ones. I don't think YJ and CJ hoods ever fluttered. My '93 didn't. I liked the old latches better - until they got all rusty and ugly. Then I still liked them, I guess. If it ain't broke....
I just got back from a trip from Las Vegas to West Yellowstone and back and after 1600 miles in my wrangler this HAS TO BE my next purchase Well after a new windshield to be installed tomorrow. Damn rocks on hiway. !!!
Gotta say the Wrangler performed great, on and off-road.
I have not seen any hood flutter at the latches or from the front of the hood (at least at 3k miles), however I have had the hood buckle some around the windshield tie down/bumpers when there are high winds.
