If it never had AC from the Factory, and he wants Factory installed, min 8000,
could be more with labor rates what they are.
After market might save him 1500 to 2000.
In all honesty, he'd be better off looking for one with AC installed if he wants AC.

That's WHY it's almost unheard of.
Most often something like that is performed on Classics or Restorations,
where $$$$ isn't an issue.

I very rarely turn mine on. My top is off all summer no matter how hot or humid it gets. The only time I've used it is if it is hot and raining hard.

I'm just trying to make the point that it isn't necessarily all that important IMO. That IS why the OP started this thread after all. If you don't like it, move along.

I don't have AC in mine and it only bothers me once or twice In the summer. Once it gets above 95ish I "need" the doors off cuz the top just isn't enough. But then again the doors and top are off almost all the time so idk if having AC would even help me

That being said I think when I got a quote for an aftermarket system it was only $1000ish

If I remember correctly it's around and $850 option before buying but as others have said above, it'd be very expensive to add later. Living here in NC I do use mine a normal amount during the summer but I think I could live without it. The trouble comes when you take a long trip with family or friends. It's not great to have every one sweating to death in your jeep with 60mph humid winds blowing on them. Or is it?

I live in SC and my kid is 2 1/2. I went all last summer without AC. Doors/windows off 24/7 and I roll soft top back if not terribly hot. He loves it.

Like daggo said only time it sucks is heavy rain and hot. Gotta either be wet or hot. For light or moderate rain I just keep doors and windows off.

Did the exact same thing last summer. Top was off most of the time so I didn't use AC hardly at all.

My wife only rides if weather is tolerant. It's her vehicle for family rides if too warm.

I took my hard top off April 6th 2011 and put it back on October 30th 2011. Door came off when it wasn't calling for rain. I would put my safari top on if it was calling for rain, or on the rare occasion I got caught IN the rain. IMO a/c is not needed and neither is the top. It's February 21st and I had the freedom panels out all day, in TN. It's a jeep thing
