I am looking at buying a brand new Jeep. I actually like the look of a Sport S a lot and there is a nice 2014 that just hit the lot down the street from me. I've negotiated a good price but I really want navigation. The dealership says that it is not compatible but I find it hard to believe.
Has anyone swapped in stock navi in their JKU themselves?
AND before you question why I would want the stock navigation over an aftermarket model that might even be better. 2 simple reasons:
1. Personally, I like the clean look and I've never seen an aftermarket system look as seamless as the stock system.
2. My cars are not safe overnight in my hood and aftermarket systems seem to attract thieves over stock systems. (I had an aftermarket system in my Tahoe, which was broken in to twice over 1 year and I had a stock system in a Touareg which was broken in to once, BUT they didn't touch the nav, just stole a jacket...haha)
If it has Sat nave, but not connectivity, then you can add the 730N easily, and then add the mic and USB port in the console. If it has connectivity, then the 430N is plug and play, will work with everything, 730N would still be an option, but requires a bypass/adapter harness.
Yes, especially if you have Sirius because sat radio and nav share the same antenna. Make sure it has the Connectivity group as well. If so, than a 430N is basically a 20 mininute, 100% plug and play swap.
BTW, not to be a downer....but keep in mind that a Jeep Wrangler is probably the most unsecure vehicle on earth.
What about buttons on the steering wheel? Can they be added easily?
You can add the buttons by just swapping the switch out. The only thing is you'll have EVIC buttons that do nothing. The current STEP and RESET buttons would be replaced by the MENU and Compass button that do the same thing, just not labeled correctly. The Phone and Hands free buttons will work, others on here have done it.
If you want a 430N or 730N, just look for a used one for sale. A lot of people change the factory radios out just because they just want an aftermarket one. You can usually get them at pretty good prices. Just look on this forum, Ebay, and Craigslist.
I Have the 2013 Sport (not even S) and its a 30 minute job to add in an aftermarket 430. The Nav isn't on this deck, but everything else is awesome. and yes, the steering controls still work. I paid 349 for one.
