Canada: 71 days and just got a VIN

First post, but have been lingering for at least a year! Was hoping my new post would have pics of my new jeep... but nope.

Coming from a 2009 wk (should have bought the wrangler in the first place), and have been wanting a Rubicon for about a year and finally pulled the trigger and ordered one... over 10 weeks ago (august 8th). Finally received a VIN, but still no build date.

Nothing special in the order - black, dark saddle leather and manual. And put 1000$ deposit down when it was ordered. It was ordered as 01 sold status.

Two questions:
- Anyone in Canada waited THIS long (71 days and counting with still no build date), not to mention the delivery time still to come?

- I'm thinking of just bailing on the order and buying a "near" perfect match Rubicon off a different lot (has the 730N which I don't really want), with the other dealer making up for the 1000$ deposit... Thoughts?

By now the jeep should have been lifted/levelled/ pushed out (no rims yet), covered in dents (well, maybe not covered), and full of dog hair.

Thanks,
Dave "I-Hate-My-WK-Roof" W.

I havent ordered my jeep, but i have been to lots around Toronto and they usually have Rubicons on the lot (maybe not with the saddle interior)... If that was me i would cancel and just look around to see whats available on your local lots...

71 days!

You coulda designed, engineered & built your own by now. Maybe look around, see what you can find on the qt, first. If you find something you like, THEN bail.

But I wouldn't bail on the deal w/out doing a little research...you might end up starting a brand new 71-day wait.

Good luck.

Thanks for the above thoughts.

It's just so tempting to cancel everything and have something now, but with cooler heads (slightly) prevailing, I think I'll just wait it out... I guess it's a christmas present now...

I wouldn't just wait either. Do whatever you can to make yourself happy, man. 71 days...I'd be eating my knuckles.

Look around while you wait. Maybe you'll get lucky and find what you want.

Well I ordered a Rubicon and it was about 30 days from order to delivery. The only problem was that Chrysler built it wrong so I had to reorder. Many times I have thought about going down there (it's still there) and picking up the one with my name in the window that doesn't have the 4:10 axle ratio but I know that while it would feel good now I would regret it when it came time to put bigger tires on it when the first set needed replacing. Then I bet I would have wished I would have waited another month or two.

To me getting exactly what I want is more important because if it isn't just right it will bug me every time I get in the Jeep for the next 10 years and that is much worse than waiting a mere month or two more.

Personally I think reading this forum everyday just makes the wait longer because it keeps the whole "I do not have my Jeep yet" idea too fresh in my mind where if I just tried to forget about it the time would pass more quickly and it wouldn't be so bad. I guess that's like trying to tell a kid to try not to think about Christmas on Christmas eve. Silly and pointless.

I ordered 2 days ago and for some reason I'm OK with the wait maybe because I was told it would be Feb or March anyways. Is there any way of know what color they put through the plant at any given time. I hear guys talking about the BFG soon, so I'm guessing they do them in batches?

Thanks again for the replies.

By the sounds of it we should have both visited Edmonton to place the order.

Unfortunately the only other manual rubi unlimited around won't work (cloth seats with saddle dash - not that I'm downing it at all, just not my taste), so I'll keep looking and waiting. I'm sure lift kits in the winter are just as much fun to put in.

My dealership knows i'm pretty unhappy, but there is not really much that they can do. I asked if there was someone I could call and was told "nope", but they'll try calling someone who's related to someone that works in toledo... 72 days and counting (although trying not to). I was told 6-8 weeks, but knew it could be any amount of time, it's just this seems to be an unusually long wait, especially when jeeps are on the lots in the rest of the city/province.

I agree they are done in batches, and I'd hate to think how often a "Canada" batch gets completed!

3 months...I am told...and I am in Toronto...

hey...

I just ordered my 2012 Sahara...I WISH I could have found one on the lot...since it apparently is going to take 3 months + to get the Jeep from Toledo...!!!

However, I wanted:
1. the 'saddle' interior in CLOTH!
2. the PAINTED 3-piece top (not the speckled one!)

So, I put down my $2k...and am prepared to wait...

I should have maybe put a 'statute of limitations' on the delivery date, though...since I know that the US orders are getting preference...over the Canuck ones...

This will be my first Jeep...looking forward to it...could not believe the performance of the PentaStar in the 2-door...even with the manumatic 5-speed...

I wanted the 6-speed...but traffic in Toronto is HORRIBLE...and I think I'd lose my mind shifting...

regards,

Brian

yeah...I know.

yeah...Jeep.ca is REALLY on the ball, isn't it?

I figure they're TRYING to get rid of the 'van-motor' 2011's...to those who DON'T KNOW about the PentaStar...only reason I can come up with for why the website doesn't have the 2012's...

It's not good.

Let's see how LONG it takes for me to get my 2012 Sahara.

SG

Hopefully this isn't salt on the wound but rather something that might give you guys some hope that things are moving now. My order went D1 this morning with a delivery ETA of Nov 6th. Maybe that means all yours are a bit closer to the gate now. Hang in there!

My reorder was done on 9/22. It is a 2 door white Rubicon with 4:10's with all options but painted top, fenders and smokers group.

Ordered mine on Sept 18th. Got a VIN within 2 weeks but still no update on my order. When I placed my order the dealer did tell me that I should not expect to see if for 8 to 12 weeks once the order is in the system. So I figure I'll get it near the end of November or early December. I still hate waiting though.

We love our Canadian neighbors. You have had our backs covered and we yours for years.
But you are ordering from a foreign country. Try ordering a vehicle from Mexico same thing.
Wait a minute.............................never mind.

i actually thought Canadian jeeps were built in Canada as we have a manufacturing plant here - but apparently Jeep is not built in Canada from what i can tell on the website, some other brands are though like the Charger and Challenger, which i have to admit are pretty sweet rides. Unfortunately they suck off-road ;-).

Chrysler Canada Inc. - About Us - Headquarters - Chrysler Jeep Dodge Vehicles

I am starting to think that the 2013's will be released before the 2012's show up in Canada. Ah!

And yes tomthbomb, we have eachothers backs for sure.

Some interesting yet little known facts -

Canada is the #1 exporter of oil to the U.S., not the middle east.
90% of the Canadian population lives within 100miles of the U.S. border
Canadian beer will get Americans way drunker than they expect

While that may be true, it ALL still sucks compared to 95% of American craft beer. Even the Canadian craft brews...

If there's one thing I miss about living full time in the states, it's the unlimited availability of good, well crafted, full bodied, dark, hoppy, 6 packs of beer. (LCBO just don't cut it, and the Beer Store is a joke)

Still no Jeep...

Just got off the phone with the dealer, states it's "built" but has no engine... so it's sitting at the plant, waiting for an engine...

12 weeks and 3 days, no jeep. I've certainly had enough and just want my 1000$ back (think it might be a bit of a struggle) and will just buy one elsewhere. I think a trip to Edmonton is in order!

12 weeks is nothing. When I ordered my 2005 Mustang I placed the order on May 25, 2005 and it arrived on Nov 18, 2004. Almost exactly 6 months from order to arrival. If my Jeep takes half that long I will be happy although the winter will really suck not having it.

Lol nope that headquarters is actually down the street from my house and I can assure you there is no factory building anything there.
All of the jeeps come out the factory in Ohio, I drove by it on my way to cedar point a couple weeks ago.

I am pretty sure we have a factory that build engines or transmission in Windsor though, I know A LOT of people here work for Chrysler and were all held up and then working overtime when they had those metal fillings in the engine blocks of the pentastars.

I think Windsor mostly puts out vans, we have probably as many vans in storage lots as people in the city here!
