Canadian Prices - are you kidding me

Hello my US friends.

Next time you think you are being screwing on the pricing of something, read this to get a laugh.

After seeing 2 things on the US Mopar site I decided to stop in to my local Jeep dealer here in Canada to order them but to my surprise the Canadian prices are ridiculous compared to the US.

Hard Top Headliner kit for JK Unlimited - US $265, here in Canada $385.

Black Jeep emblem for the grill - US $9.99, here in Canada $68.99. no you didn't read that wrong almost 7 times more here in Canada. I asked him to check twice and that was the price.

Needless to say I didn't buy them and ordered from the US.

I believe it, based on one of my own experiences:

Beer at Motocross in Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh = $7

Beer at Supercross in Rogers Centre, Toronto = $13

I picked up the Jeep emblem 3 weeks ago for around 12.00 from a dealer in Ontario. Are you sure they were looking at the right part number? They did the same with me.. Turns out he was looking at the Moab decal which goes on the hood...

Actually, no, if you check the price for example a Rubicon Unlimited, the Canadian starting price is actually about $1500 less than the starting US prices.

just compare jeep.ca and jeep.com

This was in Ottawa.
I asked him 3 times and he showed me a sheet with the emblem circled and it looked right. He insisted that was the price even when I showed him on my Jeep the part I was looking for.

Did you check online prices ? I know shipping via USPS has tripled in the last year.

You may want to try Adam at Eastway, he gives great prices to members from LX forums (300's, Chargers, Challengers, Magnums) he may be able to get you a good price.

I buy all my Jeep parts from the US, especially tires and wheels. It's unfortunate that Canadian vendors (other then David at Northridge) and tire shops will not bother to compete with US prices then complain why we don't shop Canadian. I have my parts shipped to a US depot them go across and pick them up.
I'm sorry but $2k difference for a set of 5 wheels and tires is just too much to overlook.
Even a new hardtop for a 2dr is 1/2 the price at a US dealer 2hours away.

As a fellow Ottawa resident, I've found it much cheaper to order a bunch of things in the US and have them delivered to UPS in Ogdensburg. Even with the cost of the gas to drive there and the import duty it's significantly less expensive.

May I suggest you try a different dealership ? I live in Canada too and figured some of the dealerships just have the wrong prices. I recently purchased the enhanced mopar rock rails. The first dealership I went to told me it was gonna cost 1800 $ everthing set and done. Which does not make any kind of sense. So I called a few dealerships in the area and turns out the cheapest price I could get was 683.99 which is still cheaper than quadratec. Also, I bought the black jeep emblem last week from my local dealership for 16.99, a bit more expensive yes, but still cheaper than those 22.99 plasti dip cans !!!

Yea, I got the Jeep logo for 12 bucks, I bought 3 sets of them at the time. Normally they'll cut you some slack on the price.

Mopar things have been even across the board mostly, but some items went up in price recently. The rear Licence plate delete plug doubled in price in the last 3 months, I brought in my old receipt and they wouldn't honor the price.

My dealer sold me pintlers for 240 each and my aev 2.5 lift for 1099. that's close to US prices. I got my tires for 4 bucks a tire more than tire rack charges from a local shop. Not worth shipping them here at those prices.

as a Canadian retailer (not jeep related)I can tel you that some products WHOLESALE price from the authorized distributor is greater than some online US retail prices
even worse when the product is of Canadian origin
Canada is a much smaller market than the US this also helps push the costs up more than greedy retailers IMHO
