Cant a Guy Test Drive a MANUAL JKU??

Hi Everyone, Im new here. My brother (saranrap) has given me the Jeep Bug and im looking at getting a JKU.

I want a 6 speed soft top black Sport S W/ 3:73's,max tow, connectivity package and sirius. Simple right? evidently not because not one dealer in a 200 mile radius has what i want. I know i can order it and will probably have to but i would like to atleast test drive a manual JKU w/3:73's.

not one dealer in a 50 mile radius has a MANUAL JKU on the lot one dealer has a 6speed rubicon 10A in the showroom but because im not interested in purchasing THAT ONE they wont let me test drive it.

I dont want to spend 30k on a vehicle that i cant test drive first, i have drivin my brothers gecko JK extensively but the JK & JKU are completely different.

Really looking foward to getting a jeep! have some big plans for it, gobi rack, lift, tires, CVT roof top tent etc. sorry for my first post being a rant, really hate that manuals are going away, especially in a JEEP

I had the same problem. I ended up driving a 2-door 6 speed, and an auto JKU, just to get the feel. When you sit in the front seat of a 4 door you can't really tell there is that much more Jeep behind you. The only other option is to find a used one to test drive.

thats weird. keep on shopping around. my first test drive was a stick. the dealer let me test drive it knowing that i wasn't gonna buy it, but i eventually bought one the same day.

I was able to test drive both a stick and auto the same day. They were both Sports but I don't think there is much difference in the front seat...the 4 dr might give a little smoother ride though with the longer wheelbase.

Tell them you wanna buy the 10a take it directly to the nearest ditch. Drop it in 4low lock the lockers and see if you can get it stuck. Do not give them your drivers license first

There aren't a ton of JKU's with 6 speeds on the lots around here. Finding one with manual and 3.73's would be a near impossibility. You are probably going to have to order.

Had the same problem when I was shopping for my jeep. Ended up driving a MW3 2 door MTX instead. I had no problem with it, but the clutch and shifter travel would be hell for my wife to deal with so I went ATX.

My advice if you do find a stick to test drive: Make sure it has the same axle gearing ratio as the one you want or else you won't get as accurate representation of how it accelerates.

Just try the 6speed with 3.21's. it's the same engine tranny and clutch. The only difference is you will be more happy with 3.73's. If you like the 3.21 ratio then you'll really like the 3.73's. The jeep itself handles the same and the clutch and transmission shifts the same, the 3.73's just feel peppier. Then you'll know you like the 6speed and the jeep, and you can just order it with the gears you want

I'd be willing to let you use mine for a test drive, I'm in northern DE if that helps.

In my experience you can test drive a manual vehicle of any kind...unless your wife is with you....

Thanks Guys! I went and test drove an automatic (how can people drive those, it kept searching for the gear lol) to get a feel for it.

I really liked it, a little smooth for my taste's but im sure that will go away with a lift and tires

I cannot find one that i want, dealer did a 1,000 mile search and exact matches dont exist they are either loaded up to the grills with options i dont want or need OR have the freedom edition and i cant see spending 5500 bucks for stickers and decals. Dealer Banks are closed until june 5th (what they told me) so i cant order one until then. they could find 100's optioned exactly how i want it but all have ATx's.

I had him also look for dunes (my second choice) and with hardtops/duel top groups to no avail. Really frustrating not like im asking for some obscure options, Anyone know if 2014's will have a price increase and if the 2013 wrangler price guide at the top is still good? i assume not if there is any sort of price increase.

I'd imagine a small increase but nothing major as it doesn't sound like they are changing much so there isn't a good way to market a larger price increase

I just went through the dealers I was shopping at and found this. Not sure if this one is exact, but its a 4 door 6 speed with 3.73's, Sirius and tow package.

This place is a couple hours from Philly. Good luck!

I had a similar problem. I actually had to have one shipped from upstate NY to get what I wanted. I settled for not getting dual tops and decided that if I wanted it, I could get it later. So far, no complains with hard top only. I may look at getting the ST in late fall/winter when a lot of people sell theirs on craigslist/ebay.

I had a similar issue except I really didn't care if it were manual or auto.

The only requirements were 3.73 gear, tow package (2012) and limited slip differential. Only 2 in a 600 mile radius. One was a 2 door hard top manual Sahara with cloth seats, the other was an automatic soft top unlimited Sahara with leather and EVIC. I got the 4 door mainly for the room and ease of reselling it in the future.

I got three manuals. The first was sitting on the lot and was acceptable. Chrysler bought it back from me and the replacement had to be shipped from 200 miles away. My wife's 2 door Rubicon she found used on a lot in town. She asked me about it and I went and looked. It was a manual...she liked it....sold!
