Unless of course if he brought the beer!

When you've got toddlers in carseats in the back, it's a big help to be able to manage their windows and locks from the front. Believe me.

If I'd gotten a 2 door, it would've been hand crank windows and manual locks all the way.
I had a Compass with manual everything. And when you have a 3 year old rolling down your windows or every single passenger commenting on crank windows....
Then I had a Journey with power everything, keyless everything. Kind of cool, only had it for a few months though, so no costly electronic repairs.

Those were company supplied, now it's time for a real vehicle. (sorry, power locks & windows this time!)

Would have loved manual crank, but the knob kept banging my knee on test drive. Woulda driven me nuts over a lifetime. Agree the more electronics and gadgets, the more there is to go haywire

Can't blame the broken window motor on the lift and 35's

Yeah, I did have the drivers side motor replaced already - no issues with my upgrades. Actually my rear lockers went out and they replaced the rear carrier and locker assembly to fix it - even with my 5.38s.

Yeah, I was a little concerned, but I go to a good dealership and had the 5.38s in for a couple of years, so if it was an install issue it would have happened a lot sooner. They said they couldn't guarantee anything until they took everything apart and after they inspected it they said it was a manufacturing defect. After the fix my lockers work a lot better than they did when it was brand new.

Yeah, in any case, I don't like having to "test" any part of the warrantee.

having to pay for power options is retarded. its 2012. I get that people may want manual options. but that should really be an option you have to buy. I hate when companies advertise their cars with all sorts of features, and then tell you the base price is X, and when you look at the base price, you're lucky if it even comes with doors. It's stupid. Give us power options, if folks want an economy box, then they will ride a bike or get a zip car, or else buy a 10k car. For the rest of us, don't insult us, give us power options!

I had roll up windows and manual locks in my '88 ranger in high school. Everything after that I want to be a step up! I love the power options in my jeep, just like I love my bluetooth and siruis radio!

I don't let many go riding with me, and most of those who do are surprised there IS power windows.

The first 3 Jeeps I had were all 'power nothing'. I chose power windows and didn't think it would upset anyone too badly.

Everybody has good reasons for their choice. I'm glad Jeep has the option. Frankly over the last 50 years of rigs I've owned, about 80% of them have been hand crank style....and I've never had a power window failure, save on that 47 Caddy convertible with all hydraulic power everything, while the hand crank beasties HAVE had significant failures in a certain percent.

Wonder how electronic anything will function once Fiat gets their fingers in Corporate management for a few model years.

I never knew Wranglers even came with power windows. The first one we test drove had them, and it was a surprise. I just didn't think that we needed them on a vehicle where you are supposed to take the doors off. The kids love the fact that we have to crank the windows, and actually unlock the doors by hand. They think its fun.
I've replaced 4 lock actuators on other vehicles, and am sick of locks that quit working, or pulling up to the drive thru at Tim Horton's ( It's a Canada thing ) and not being able to roll down my windows because they are frozen shut, and I don't want to burn the motor out. Long live crank windows!!!!

I have no power at all. I wouldn't mind some power windows. Any friend who calls you cheap about no power isn't much of a friend and really isn't a keeper at all.

I guess it comes down to personal preference? I mean, I lock all more doors, and on my old truck, having to tell people to lock to doors when we left it sucked. so glad your kids think its a fun game now, i'll feel bad for you when theyre teenages and think its stupid to have to do so. same thing with going to the drive though, having to pull up to the window and then crank it down to grab some food, is awful. Sure, if the alternative is burning out the motor that sucks, but I would like to imagine there are car makers out there who make cars whos electric windows do work in canada, so yeah. Sorry, there is nothing fun or sexy about manual locks or windows. its quaint, like having to cut down a tree with a hatchet. yeah, its manly, and sexy, and feels so pure. the first time you do it. every tree after that? **** it, I want a chain saw. no one wants to have to do that by hand every time

This is a few years ago… picked up my daughter and her girl friend from practice. We are picking up some dinner from a burger joint drive thru, I manually roll down my window to pay and get our food. Then as we are pulling away I roll up the window, I hear her say, “I’ve never seen crank windows before”…..Really…WTF… anyway works for me especially in the summer!

Canada is big which Jeeps do you think have it easier the ones in Winnipeg, or the ones in Vancouver? (Or the ones in Phoenix Az, or Juneau, Alaska)
Came out of the car wash numerous times in the winter and three minutes later none of my power windows would work on my cars. Frozen shut. With the cranks don't matter.

Come on budd if u don't have friends that harmlessly chirp u every once in a while then u don't have friends

As someone mentioned i too got the power windows 'coz of my 4-door and i'm very glad i did. Can't imagine the pain of having to reach all four doors to get the windows down and up every time i got in, especially since i love driving roofless with all the windows down all the time
(yes i thought about saying topless but the ladies here would faint so i had to change it for all the marriages sake )

P.S.: Hope i'm not hijacking the thread but quick question since we have the power vs. no power debate- how do i set the power locks to open all the doors with the first push of a button and how do i turn off the horn every time i unlock and lock the Jeep? I do not have EVIC

Agreed on all three points:

I too dislike NOT driving alone.

I also have never had a power window issue, '06 Jeep Commander, '08 Dodge Charger SRT8, '08 BMW 750Li and now '12 JKU Sahara ALL had power everything and absolutely no issues whatsoever. But i've had my share of seeing broken manual window handles.
It's actually weird for me to get used to the simplicity of the JK even with all the power available. Did anyone say power soft top?

I too am worried about Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino messing up with the Chrysler more than helping it. Unless it's a super car or a super bike no good comes out of Italy when it comes to vehicles. FIAT and Alfa Romeo are both very infamous when it comes to reliability. I know you guys overseas don't have much experience with these bands but that's a good thing. Even though Alfa is a dream to drive (very responsive, fun and just pure driver's car) the reliability of both of these is a joke.

I thought it was Fix It Again Tony - that's what our tour guide told us when we visited Italy last year.

Actually, my son who is 12 now is expecting to buy a Jeep or get mine when he turns 16. And yes, they do make cars with power windows that work in Canada, they just don't work in the winter when it's -45*. But if you like them.... buy a Jeep with them. I would have bought one with power too if they didn't have one that had all the manual stuff.

I did put a remote starter in mine, and I love the uconnect feature. It's not like I'm a against technology. I love it. I even have a mp3 player hooked into the USB port in the console. That's freekin awesome. It was just nice to have the option of manual cranks for my climate, and needs. My Expedition has every power option available, and I love it too. It's all good.

Power windows...

...that's one of the joys of my JKU versus my previous JKX.

We all have electric starters right, rather than the "get out and hand crank the engine" type? Or is that an option for "real' Jeepers?

I also have that new fangled power lock thingy too.

And electric lights.

I am flat azz lazy. I know, more electronics means more potential issues but I have, in a sense become so used to some of the luxuries that they now feel like they are must have's.
