My current jeep is all manual, however for the new one I ordered,I opted for power everything. While I agree with many posts about keeping it simple, there comes a time in life (at least for me), where even the smallest conveniences in life are desired.

I have had a few friends comment on the fact that the I do not have power windows or locks. I explained my reasoning and I am pretty sure they got the idea but in the end its my jeep and I ordered like that for a reason!!

Who the hell needs handles for their windows.......Zipper rule!
You kids have it so easy with handles, A/C, power BS, etc.

A - rock works for you. Better and doesn't have a motor to wear out. I have it too but there is more stability with an a rock compared to disco'ing.

Not true! More and more people are using bidet's to wash their dainty asses.

While I still had the soft top on my Jeep I pulled up to a guard at the Broadmoor Hotel here in Colorado Springs. I fumbled with the zipper while she stood back from my Jeep. Once I got it open I apologized for the wait and she said it wasn't a problem, that she stood back expecting me to open the door which is what she does with her Wrangler! Jeepers understand Jeepers.

I've got manual windows and locks on my 4 door. Seems pretty uncommon. I ordered my Jeep and the dealer screwed up the order. It was a fully loaded Sport with half doors. They ordered it with full doors. Because you cannot get a hard top with half doors, I told them with full doors I would have ordered dual tops. If they couldn't give me the hard top and wire it up properly, they would have to keep the Jeep and order me another. They gave in and I got a free hard top. I would have had manual door locks anyways, but I prefer roll up windows over power. I had a Grand Cherokee years ago and the drivers side window motor went out. The dealer wanted $400 to replace it. I know several other people with Jeeps where the window motors went out, usually outside the warranty.

When you've got toddlers in carseats in the back, it's a big help to be able to manage their windows and locks from the front. Believe me.

If I'd gotten a 2 door, it would've been hand crank windows and manual locks all the way.
In case you didn't notice, there is a little lock on the back doors to prevent them from opening from the inside by kids. Childproof. Its a slot that you can turn with your ignition key. No power locks needed....

TP? Bidet? There's a bucket of water and a scoop next to my toilet. I dig in with left hand and wash it afterwards. Welcome to Southern Asia.

I believe there is NO SUCH thing in America. Does anyone know of a manufacturer still offers manual windows and locks for the US market?

I have power windows and door locks.

They're leaned against the hard top sitting in my garage.

*contemplating craigslist sale*

Put me into the "zippers rule" catagory!

I honestly wasn't paying attention to power options when I bought mine because I was so in love with everything else about it. I was halfway home with it when I noticed that it didn't have power windows or locks, no hands-free/satellite radio gadgets. I just shrugged and thought Oh well, less stuff to go wrong. It only irritates me when I have to fight with my 15-y-o about putting the window up or down. We're transportationally incompatible, and he keeps messing with my stuff. I didn't care about the locks because I didn't plan on keeping anything in it to protect. If the doors are off, it makes no difference. People just giggle when I have to do it all "old school". Whatever.

Pretty soon, someone will be saying, "They still made plain ACs up to 2035??? Get a Climatic, already!!" (a climatic is some future AC that has vitals monitoring technology that alters the cabin temperature and humidity levels based on body temp, perspiration, dryness of lips, oxy/carb breath levels for EACH person in the vehicle)

Come on, people, you're losing the spirit of the adventure by going power devices!

That doesn't make locking/unlocking them any easier, or controlling the windows on a 4 door.....

I just got my first Jeep ('12 Wrangler). It has the no power package. I had to teach my son and daughter how to open the windows. It was awesome.

If a fellow Jeeper ever gives you crap about your lack of power- ask 'em how much they paid! I also purposefully looked for manual- and got $4600 off my 2012 JK. Dealers have a harder time selling them without power- thus the discount. Already have my power window installation kit- $220. (One note- when you're 5'6" that passenger side window crank is pretty far away.) That leaves a nice chunk leftover for my 3" lift and new wheels/tires- on order. Gee, that's such a tough call.

I had to bring a friend home from school the other day and he couldn't believe that it didn't have power windows/locks and that it was a manual. He thought it was cool tho, especially the manual lol.

Wow i guess im not alone in ordering all manual on my 2012 sport. The only options i ordered were ac and 3.73s and the smokers group. I picked it up this saturday and took it over to my friends place to show it off and he started bashing it right away saying that only girls drive jeeps, those little tires couldnt handle anything offroad, that hisi truck wouldwas whoop it into a raceman and that i was a cheap bas*&@# for getting manual options. I took it all in stride knowing that he was just jealous.
later that day we went to a barbeque at another friendsreason place. i drove my completely jeep and he drove his 2010 gmc 2500, that has a 6 inch lift is sitting on 35s, has a flowmaster exhaust that can wake the dead, and has every option known to 2010 and is one hell of an attention getter. we pulled in at the same time and this very good looking girl walked right past his truck to my jeep and demanded a ride... the look on my friends face was priceless and of course i couldnt refuse... i caught him a couple of hours later on his phone looking at wranglers on craigslist... i think the jeep won

This power vs. manual features thread is amusing. I would say get what you want. They come with different features because there are many types of buyers. Me I like power everything. If jeep would make an automatic rag or hard top, I would buy one tomorrow. Mine is mostly street driven with many trips to the beach or back woods fishing ponds/streams.

Even though I think I may keep it forever, I did think about resale. A 4 door with auto & power features will be easier to sell because there will be more buyers available.

For those giving a hard time to us lazy err modern folks, how many of you are using:
1) A TV remote vs manually changing channels and have cable vs an antennae
2) Cell phone vs pay phone or home phone
3) drink bottled water vs tap
4) pay for bottled water at a gas station vs asking for the hose
5) have fuel injection vs carbs
6) have a riding lawn mower, heck a motorized lawn mower (at all) vs push or god forbid a lawn service.
7) Disc brakes vs drum
8) using high speed internet when dial up is still available
9) use a indoor bathroom vs a port-a-let
10) grow your own food
11) make and cook your own food
12) use a microwave vs fire to heat food
13) fly via jet instead of prop plane or taking a train
14) email vs letter
15) chain saw vs hatchet
16) MP3 vs LP
17) Home heat/AC vs window open and wood stove
18) electric alarm clock vs manually cranked alarm clock or watch for that matter

The Amish are laughing at our gadget driven lifestyle even with manual window and door locks in wranglers. They still use a horse & buggy.

You have made my day

you know i didnt even consider resale i dont plan on ever selling it but you know "shit happens" and life takes turns you dont expect and in 5-8 years anyone but old heads will have no idea what "the wierd twisty handle majigger that does window stuff" is
