Can't decide on which JK, whick one seems to be the best deal?

Well this years Alaskan winter up here is absolute murder and my commuter isn't working out at all. I'm working in Seward AK about 200 miles aways from my home in Wasilla, and with record snow fall and conditions I'm willing to give up my 37 mpg sentra for something I've been wanting for years, a Wrangler Unlimited 4 dr. I hate the fact that I've been driving a foreign car, but with the cost of fuel, it really made since especially with all the commuting I do on weekeds going to and from home/work. If Anyone knows the drive on the Seward Hwy in the winter thru the 2 passes can be hairy with the avalanches and road conditions.
I've made up my mind the other day when I couldn't get out of my plowed drivedway due to the ice, that I was gonna get a Wrangler. Wife's got the Commander, I don't have a Jeep at the moment and the JK seems to fit the bills for me the wife and our 2 young boys. Hard top is a must, I prefer standard but all I'm finding is autos up here. I do like to go off rd some so what do you guys prefer? I found 2 pretty good deals up here and am approved for the loan, first one is a green 2008 Unlimited Sahara 4 dr w/ hard auto tranny 34K no warranty, excellent shape, $23,983, top as shown, here's the link Dependable Used Cars :: 2008 Jeep Wrangler Anchorage AK 593 : Used Cars Anchorage AK,Pre-Owned Autos Alaska,Used Trucks Eagle River AK,Previously Owned Vehicles Wasilla,Car Dealer Palmer AK,Car Dealership,Affordable Autos,4x4 Pickup Trucks Anchorage,. Second is a silver 2010 Unlimited X series $23,900, 4 dr, auto, 28K hard top, pretty sure comes with factory warranty, CL price has it as 25,900, but add says 23,900, I called and confirmed they goofed up add, it is 23,900, link 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. These 2 seem to be the best at the moment, I really like the 2008 sahara but we'll see. What's you guy's take on it?
Any info would be appreciated, Thanks Billy Jack

According to cargurus.com ..both have been in the market for 2~3 months. So I will definitely take a good shot at bargaining down further on either of them . Here are the links from cargurus.com :
Used Jeep Wrangler For Sale Anchorage, AK - CarGurus

2010 Jeep Wrangler For Sale Anchorage, AK - CarGurus

If those links don't work just do a search in cargurus.com. You will find those.
Good luck!

I'd go for the Green Sahara but shoot a low offer if they have been on the lot for that long they need to move them. Can't go wrong either way, they are both awesome! Good Luck

I personally think its not what you buy, its what you build. That being said, some models offer clear advantages over others in stock trim and will save your wallet damage for a while until you decide to build it up more. With exception of factory offered warranty on locked axles ie: rubicon, the other models, mountain, sahara etc.. seem to focus on ridiculous wheel options and interior goodies. Whatever floats your boat, Jeeps rule.

To be honest, you would probably be better off buying a new one for what they want. Check the used interest rates at your bank vs. new interest rates. On a new Jeep, you will have an entire warranty to use up, saving a lot of money also.

I would buy new considering you can get them at same price almost. Used car rates are higher than new car rates, can't pass one over on the bank either, they will adjust it accordingly.

Get the 10 with the warranty if it checks out. It could be very possible that the 08 Sahara is an oil burner; hence, no warranty. Your not going to know until way after you drive it away, then it's too late. Again, be careful with the 08. If it's a burner you'll regret the purchase.

Let say you get the '10 at $24k. The used loan rate is 3.99% for used vehicles and you finance it for 48 months. Your payment would be $542/mo. If you bought a '12 and it was $30k, the loan rate was 1.79% (what my bank offers for new vehicles and good credit) and you financed it for one year longer, your payment would be $523/mo. for one year longer, you get a 2 year newer vehicle and full warranty at $19 less per month.

I hate it when you guys are honest......Yeah I should hold out until the wife's Commander is paid off too. I think I'll hold off and get what I really want, a new Rubicon, got the gears, paint and warranty and everything else.

New is good.....I searched for a year driving nearly 2 dozen various contenders in the process. Had settled on a JKU new, but the nearly $30k didn't fit what my budget wanted to do.....still, interest rate was good, I was otherwise unencumbered by payments, and I was ready to move on the new one....

then I found exactly MORE than what I wanted in CL, an ultra low mile 08JK for a steal. I've driven it now for 13 months and still don't have the grin off my face.

With a bit of down payment, monthly payment isn't too bad either.

At my age, I've started "eating desert first" as years of financial discipline have finally started paying off.

Depending on what you decide you can't live without, the 24G option package has a lot more than one actually needs, and you can save a bunch leaving some things out.

As it was, my barely used Sahara saved me about $9k vs new...and with 15000 miles it was in show room cream puff condition. The JK has proven to be FAR better that what I expected for long distance ride comfort, etc.

maybe pickup a leftover new 2011 if any are out there for a huge discount and maybe 0% financing. I have a 2010 JKU i bought new for under $24,000, was going to upgrade to a 2012 but now they are $30k plus, and mine will be paid off in 1.5 years not to mention the the $10k in aftermarket add ons

I concur with others... Buy a '12, for those prices. If you're a member of either USAA or Tread Lightly, you can get a brand new vehicle for a few grand more than what they're asking.

That's what my wife and I did.

Good luck!

The two dealers in Anchorage have several 2011 leftovers still in stock. They should be available at a really reasonable price and you get it brand new with full factory warranty. And like ballandchain pointed out, the monthly payment may be less than a used one.
