Care + Maint for a 12 JKUR as 2nd + trip vehicle

After finishing phase 1 mods to the Jeep and moving farther away from work, I have picked up another vehicle to be my daily driver, a Honda Civic Si. I setup insurance on the Jeep for 7,500 miles per year which should cover all the wheeling trips I would like to take.

Assuming I take trips once a month, how frequently should I get the Jeep on the road to keep her limber? Also, should I change the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage, or is there a different recommended time frame?

I appreciate any advice.

I'd say at least once a week for at least 10 minutes after you reach opperating temperature.

As to oil changes... I typically do every 4k or 5k or I'm just getting into the once a year changes like my dad does running synthetic oil. for a part time driver I would do at least once a year.

What have we got?

Don't think a JKUR is different from any other vehicle, my 2nd car sits most of the time. In winter I usually just run it for a bit in the parking lot every week or 2 or if it's dry, drive it to the car wash or wherever.

Only issue I've had so far is the battery slowly draining since I wasn't running it long enough to charge it. Put it on the battery charger overnight and it's all fixed

How can you stay out of it and not drive it. I get a case of the "Shakes" after two day and need a Jeep Fix.

I prefer to think of it as letting me keep the Jeep longer. I only pull her out for sunny days, fun weekends and anytime I can go off the beaten path.

I suscribe to the change the oil twice a year regardless of miles program. Condensation is the enemy with a vehicle that sits. The small amout an oil change costs it's cheap insurance.

Don't just start it and let it idle. Drive it long enough to be fully up to operating temp. A trickle charger for the battery is not a bad idea. I use a Battery Tender on all my stuff. Hard wire it to the battery and plug it in when not in use. Works great.
