Nice work. I went off the windscreen bolts opposite the factory radio antenna:

(I should add its a UHF antenna, we dont use AM radios down here much anymore)

Looks good. Did you figure out how to snake the wiring along with your existing tailgate wiring? I managed with some creativity and it turned out sweet. Would love to see the interior pics of your install. Not much room to cleanly run wires in a jk

Its a lot easier for the UHF units as they are so much smaller in comparison to the old AM gear. I bought a GME unit that has all controls in the mic and the main unit is mounted under the steering colum to the stereo amp, so its all hidden. The mic simply plugs in when required and when not is locked in the glove box.

And I should add its a small microphone! (on my 17in laptop screen its actually full size)

I bolted mine up next to the shifter on the passenger side. It really does not take up passenger leg room but it does keep the rear seat from going forward more than a few inches. I have a 2010 so it's not like it really folds forward anyway. I am using a cobra 29 which is a big unit and there's not many options in a jeep for cb mounting. There have been a bunch if threads lately on here about cb's so scan the jk section a few pages back and you will find all the info you want. One of these threads was loaded with pics of guys set ups.

I put my CB on overhead rails. I looked at all the other forum suggestions but found all typical locations lacking. I tried to place it low, on the side of center console, but then the seat cannot be moved forward far enough for smaller occupants.

They charge around $3k Aud for a radio license. To limit them, i guess its only the military and police that use them.

what is everyone's thoughts on the am/fm radio and CB antenna combination deal. basically run one antenna for both and remove the stock radio antenna...

My 4' firestiks on the third brake light and the CB is just over the rearview mirror--outta the way and instantaneous access-

I can receive ffom over 60 miles, but can only transmit about 8 miles, or thats how far my last check was--

I'm getting ready to install my firestick II on my spare tire carrier. I already have a mount for it, so it should be easy. I'm still trying to figure out how to mount my CB. How did you mount your CB above the rear view mirror? In your picture, it looks like you have an additional bar running front-to-back that your CB is mounted on. I want to run my CB coax from the spare tire carrier along the roll bar to the front and mount my CB above the rear view mirror. I'm trying to get a good idea of how to accomplish it.

Well I cheated on mine, that ctr bar is part of the "ROCKHARD" JK roll cage and it was perfect for the CB mount--

Bestop and Tuffy make ctr lock boxs and bars that offer the same mounting support-

Thats exactly where I've got my co-ax run---under the roll cage padding and right to the CB-

Checkemout-google Bestop/Tuffys for JK-accessories-

Ollie,
You have the mount backwards. The clamp part (what you have around the spring) is for clamping to a mirror bracket of any round bar. The antenna mounts through the round hole. (where you bolted to the vehicle. They way you are attached, you have the actual antenna grounded. (The mount needs a ground, not the antenna. element) You’ve created a direct short in your RF path and will burn out the finals in your radio.

Edit: Just realized it,s an old thread. Hopefully Ollie got it corrected.
