CB Antenna-which one?

Had a question.

I was going to go with the CB antenna kit from :
Cool Tech LLC. JK Ultamount CB Antenna System

The CB Radio I was getting is the bearcat 880.

Now for the antenna. I read not to get the antenna from cooltech but to get a firestick?-What antenna do you guys recommend and what height?

Thanks!

I have the cooltech tailgate mount/and antenna from cooltech...which is a firestik.

i have the 4 ft antenna and mounted the cooltech upside down so i can fit in my parking garage at home.

get the combo, get the antenna tuned afterwards...and you'll have great reception. i was still getting reception approx 5 miles out from my last trail ride. not only that...most of my jeep crew were at the top of the mountain whereas i was on my way down.

the way the cooltech is positioned (btween tailgate/tire), try not to go too long with an antenna due to clearance issues which will result in damage even if you put a spring.

I have a 4 ft firestik mounted using a cheap mirror mount onto my tailgate, works like a charm. I thought about the cooltech mount but I wasn't sure if I was going to relocate my license plate in the future. For that price I'd want to keep it on there indefinitely.

op, btw...i checked your link. I had a similar setup like that before and the flex of the of antenna tends to be too much for the plastic license plate even though i had some rigid metal cb mount inside/out. i'd recommend you getting the tailgate mount.

I found ARR to be the best (pics at zaitcev.mee.nu). Its performance is better than other types of antenna mounts that I tried out, SWR 1.55 on center. I know it's still not excellent, but still better than others. Also, it places antenna higher, which helps. That said, I keep forgetting about the antenna and drive into garage with it. The problem is exacerbated by ARR's height. Fortunately, my favourite is a long whip (it also improves performance over the typical helical-wound plastic antenna), so no damage.

I ran the other Cool Tech mount, the stock tire carrier one, and I ran the 4 foot Firefly antenna. Opted for that one on it's flexibility. I've smacked it on tree's, garages, hell I can hold it and bend it past 90 degrees and its fine. I don't use the mount anymore, but I still have the antenna.

I have the exact set-up you're leaning towards (license plate mount/4ft Firestik). I don't do much off roading, except for hunting so this mount works great for me. I simply unscrew the antenna before I pull into my garage, and also if I'm parking someplace that would worry me as far my antenna getting swiped. I also have the Beacat 880 mounted on the Footmans' loop and I love it there. This combo works well for me and I get as much as 6 miles depending on terrain/weather. Good luck !

Did you have any work done to that 880? Peak and tuned? I just bought one myself and plan on mounting it in the same place.

Firestick 4' on an ARB tire carrier...no issues. Great signal (tuned via pwr meter...).

I am pretty sure it was peak N tuned ( I purchased online) if my memory serves me right.

Picture on the ARB tire carrier via a drilled in mount shows it is barely over the roof....4'.

There is a tab on the carrier with two small holes (for what I am not sure)...I simple enlarged one, painted the bare metal minus a tiny spot for conduction, and got some gel conductive stuff that would prevent rust.

Used locktie on the cb mount, voila.

Included in this complete kit is a very unique, completely hidden CB antenna mount, a FireStik FL-4 4' fiberglass antenna (with tunable tip), 18' coax and connectors, and detailed instructions for installing it in your new 2007-2012 Wrangler.
Any chance you confused the kit with this one? JK Jeep Wrangler CB Antenna Kit (2007+) | Right Channel Radios

I've been looking for antenna and mount also.

I have the Firestick II antenna. Does fine. For CB which isn't really long range any CB antenna will do fine, just make sure your swr is low.
